Gandhi says “Be the Change You want to see in the World.” How do we do that?
I watch the eruption of violence in our world and wonder how to heal it. In order to heal it we need to understand it. I think the bottom line is that we need to feel that we count, that we are right, that we are doing things the best way. What happened to cherishing and honoring our uniqueness and our glorious individuality?
Cara Lumen, spiritual philosopher, explorer, map-maker and founder of the Deeper Song Community help us sing a deeper song. In this episode she discusses three things we can we address in ourselves the will positively affect the world around us.
[player]
In this episode we consider three things we can change about ourselves to make a difference in our world:
1. Fear of change – it’s scary to have to do things differently, to move into a space that is unfamiliar. To learn a new way to do things. But change is a constant in our life.
2. Self-worth and the need to be right – If I’m not right, then I”m wrong. If I’m not right then I don’t matter. If I’m not right than I have no value. The need to be right is totally tangled up with our self worth and we need to address that for ourselves on an individual basis..
3. Intolerance of others – It’s appropriate that we choose our own beliefs and values and be true to them in our own lives. But everyone gets to do that. We must learn to honor the uniqueness of everyone else and actually learn from them.
And we’re right back to fear of change. It’s a circle that needs to be broken.
