Have you ever called a friend to help you with a problem and by the time you finished explaining it you have your answers? Sometimes the best way to figure out a problem is to talk about it with others. However, there are other ways to capture and clarify your ideas.
Write it down
Have you ever had a decision whirling around in your head that was so worrisome you could barely get on with your life? You go to sleep thinking about it and wake up with more ideas. You can’t make a decision. You can’t move forward. Writing down my thoughts allows me to capture the ideas that are in my conscious and allows me to see what is in my subconscious. For instance, I’m currently focused on how to sing a deeper song. I do not know what that means to me yet. I’m not particularly clear what I want to do or when I want to do it. I don’t know who much or how little I want to do. So I write about it. Sometimes it takes the form of lists or mind maps. Sometimes it is an article. Other times it is simply a journal entry of my inner thoughts. Writing down my idea helps me clarify. Writing down my thought helps me look deeper within.
Look around you
Examine the actions of others. What are they doing that you would like to do? What are they doing that you don’t want to do? How can you make it different? What part of it do you like? How can you adapt what you see to an action that works for you? Keep learning. Read blogs by people going a similar direction. Search the internet for people who can teach you what you want to learn. Do your research. Being well informed will help you make your decision. What do you need to know/learn/understand next?
Try on different scenarios
What if? What if you did it this way? What if you did it that way? Take your idea, your need, your desire to the next level of exploration and see where it takes you. Visualize it, or actually make a plan to see where it will take you. Go exploring and see what will work for you.
Talk it out
Talk about your idea, need or desire with others. Be certain to choose positive thinking people, those who will support you in your desire to move forward. Sometimes simply explaining your idea to someone makes it clear for you. Listen to what you say to them. Let them tell you what they hear you say. Notice the new viewpoint they offer, the new insights they present. Take that new awareness into consideration.
Make a choice
Remember that not making a choice is also a choice. What action are you willing to take? Go try your idea on for size. Walk with it awhile and see how it feels. Any choice will be right for the moment. However, moments change and then it will be time to go exploring again.
