Build on the Distance You Have Come

“You can only progress by building on the distance you have come.”
– Everyday Tao, Ding Ming Dao

Where are you?  How far have you come?  Where do you want to go?

Before you move forward, examine where you are. What are your strengths, your gifts, your talents? What have you learned that can become a new foundation to build upon? What recently discovered awareness will open new doors?

Look at what’s missing.  What do you need to acquire before you move forward?  It may be in the form of knowledge, it may be a skill, it may be self-awareness.  To get from here to there, what needs to change within you?

Change that.

Build on the Distance You Have Come

June 27, 2016 By Cara Lumen

distance-6

The way you process is to build on the distance you have come. You have skills you have developed, talents you have expanded upon, experience that included success and failure. All of that is the foundation upon which you stand. It is what you build on.

You passion is clear

It’s much easer to identify your passion after you’ve lived a few years. You keep seeking out the same type of experience, the same opportunities. That makes the next part of your journey easy to map out.

Your talents are evident

Sometimes we forget our natural talents. When I started doing videos I loved doing them. Then I remembers I have two degrees in theater. Duh. No wonder I was having a good time. Look back over your life for the talents you developed at an earlier stage and bring them into now.

Your skills have been honed

I know things I didn’t know a few years ago. I do things better this week than I did last week. The more you use your skills, the more choices you have when it comes to a new project – or a new path.

You are wise from experience

Been there, done that. What a time saver that is. And it also keeps us from making the same mistake again. (Hopefully) Let experience guide you but don’t let it keep you stuck. Stay open for change. Embrace change. Take that experience and go exploring.

You know your heart

In retrospect I can look back and see several things I have brought forward steadily in my life. That is my heart. One is writing and the other is an interest in my own spiritual exploration. Now those are coming together for this part of my journey.

Use your past to build your future

Stand firmly in your experience, look deeply into the wisdom of your heart, and build on the distance you have come. Reject what didn’t work. Expand on what did. You have the wisdom now to make choices that are aligned with your passion, your calling, your skills and your talents – all of which have grown richer with age. That’s how you build on the distance you have come.

Expand Your Vision

Expand Your Vision

Living Our Deeper Song

Ashe
(“Ah-Shay”)
 The Creative in me honors the Creative in you!

If we create our world by using our imagination, we have some serious work to do. I’m not exactly sure where to start.

Before I can envision for the planet, I have to vision from my own small world, my own sphere of influence, my own actions and choices. Begin with yourself and your expression in life to make the changes you hope to see reflected in the world.

I have a great start on the kind of people I want to be with because of the kind and caring staff here at Evergreen long-term care. I can actually use them as a place to begin my vision for this New World. I envision a world full of kind, caring, smart, people who are very deeply in service to others. So much will change in the world if all of us are in service to each other.

I envision our planet as a place where all of the products we use are very environmentally friendly and nothing, absolutely nothing gets dumped on Mother Earth to hurt or harm or destroy her. That means that a lot of human hearts and minds have to change.

So I have envisioned caring people caring for our the planet. What about me? What about my vision for myself?

First of all, I’m 90 so I can vision for 10 or so years ahead but I won’t put a time frame on it. How do I need to change? How might I be a service? What do I need to do to make all that happen?

How do I need to change? I watch meaningful and impactful interactions with kind, caring people in service here and I seek to copy them even in the few months I have been here. And I know that following their example is going to make a huge difference as I move forward.  So choosing to be around the right people is a primary place to start defining your place of service -real life, aware, thoughtful, kind people. Are they living successful lives with some degree of calm certainty? How are they doing that? Are the activities you choose to do nurturing you and expanding your awareness and supporting your work in the world? That’s a lot to get from a day’s worth of living.

How might I be a service? You can go deeper into your place of service at any age. Look around at how you are helping people right now. It may be that your support of others is simply through positive thinking and ever-deepening contribution to others.

What do I need to do to make all that happen?

If I spend contemplative time visualizing peace everywhere on the planet, I can work with communities of people or herds of animals or individuals.

I get to imagine what clear, sparkly water looks like and feels like and that it is everywhere. I get to envision forests growing safely without the destruction of a fire. I’ve been a vegetarian for 50 years so I’m not a part of that process of killing animals for food.

I will envision my life as projecting positive, inclusive energy full of health and balance.

Each of us has a place of expression. My physical plane seeks some answers through self-healing. I have my eyesight to work on and not worry about.

Where do you need to change? What do you need to change?

Be creative in how you expand your vision and make it become a reality.

DEEPER SONG AFFIRMATION

Expand your vision of what you see for yourself. and raise your expectation of what is possible.

DEEPER SONG PROCESS

  • How do you envision the survival of the planet? Become more aware of what is happening and create your own very strong spiritual practice focused at least in part on the survival of our planet.

===INNER WORK===

Deepen Your Inner Awareness

Add More Elements To You Spiritual Practice

I am drumming more in my spiritual practice since my flute playing is less than stellar with my arthritic fingers. I use several of my rattles to bless my work and send energy to heal my body. I make up songs to heal my eyes.

I like to do my spiritual practice as the sun rises and sets.  I have a ceremony before I sleep to focus on releasing and restoration. I could do better about offering gratitude for my meals. I will make up a song of focus for my computer and the ideas it helps me express.

I haven’t done this yet but I will start thanking my two plants for their wholing energy when I water them.

How will you expand your spiritual practice?

Water Meditation

 I live in the middle of the country in Kansas and have no real way to do a water meditation in person so I will have to find a recording that speaks to that particular form. Sit quietly and listen to the innate rhythm and flow of the tides as the water and the waves help us find a soft, ongoing, nurturing sound. Find a water sound that you like and begin to meditate with it and see what journeys it takes you on.

===SELF-HEALING===

Take Responsibility for Healing Yourself

Do The Work

As I come to the end of my eighth Qigong class, I realize that I am not doing the work.  Part of it is that I can’t stand up very well – yet. But the other part is that I am not doing the work.  I’m not practicing.

Where are you falling behind simply because you are not practicing or have not added it to your daily routine? Rearrange your day until you find the right sequence.

Your Body’s Response to Fear

I’m experiencing a shortness of breath and my PT facilitator Maggie said she noticed it when my hip replacement surgery was scheduled. Hummm.  I have never felt less in control of my own destiny as I do now when I have to depend on so many others to get me ready and get me to the hospital and back again. I have been an independent woman the majority of my life and I don’t like how it feels to have that not be within my capacity anymore.  I need to make some creative adjustments both in the form of self-empowerment and beliefs. I’m not sure where to begin but recognizing the need is a good place to begin my exploration.

Self-Care

I am so well cared for here at Evergreen, things I can no longer do for myself are done for me but I have to make certain I do my part – exercise that only I can provide for my body, the food choices that only I can make, the rest that only I can give – these are still totally my responsibility.  Don’t give up your role in caring for the well-being of your body. It is your temple for you to live in.  Care for it wisely.

===OUTER  WORK===

Explore New Potential and Possibilities

Try New Things

What do you want to do in the coming year that you’ve never done before? It may range from trying a new food to going rock climbing.  It’s good to experiment. It’s good to try new things.

I’ve recently begun to read Joe Dispenza’s book Becoming Supernatural and it is going to change my life. It is taking me in a direction I never dreamed possible.  I’ve had the book for one year but now is when I need it.

I have a role to play here at Evergreen and that is unfolding.  I am eager to participate more.

What new things do you want to explore? What new paths will you go down?  Keep trying new things, it makes life an adventure.

Explore Other Cultures

There is a fairly diverse population among the staff here at Evergreen. Two people have come over from Africa in their teens one of them worked her way through college as a long-distance runner. I have been exposed to more diversity in population and cultures in the last three months since I have been here than I have in my entire 90-year life. I’m loving it.

Where do you go to expose yourself to diversity?  As a young girl I remember having dinner at a neighbor of my grandparents and we ate squirrel. Only in later years did I realize that was what they could afford to eat.

In New York City I had a Jewish friend invite several of us for Passover where she explained the ceremony. But other than eating at restaurants that serve culturally specific food I have not done much exploring and have had no chance to get to know people from other cultures. How will you broaden your world view today?

What Do You Miss Doing?

I used to walk all over New York City, now I use a walker. I used to garden, now I have two philodendron I need help watering. Music has always been in my life. With my arthritic fingers making my native flute playing a bit odd, I have turned to my drums and my voice to add music to my spiritual practice. But I keep the elements I love in my life in some form.

We let slide all manner of favorite nurturing things in order to make our living or raise our children or…

Get that old band instrument out of the closet and play it again. Find time to do things that you used to love to do. Whatever you miss doing, find time to do it again now.

One of the big lessons I learned about moving into a smaller place is to start with an empty space the size of the space you are moving to and put in it only what you really want to keep around you. The rest you leave behind. Sometimes that is hard to do but necessary.

We can apply that principle to the agenda you choose for yourself for the coming year. If you were to begin again with a clean slate, what top three things would you put on it?

I would put exploring and writing about what I learn in order to clarify it for myself and others. Oddly my spirit practice is third on my list but when I was downsizing, it was my spiritual items that I had to cut down on the most.

I realize that there are two vital elements to my life – my spiritual practice and my writing which are deeply entwined with leaning. That’s good to know.

Make a list of what is important for you and prioritize them. Are you doing what you really want to do? How do you need to change to make room for your priorities? Start with a clean slate not a full slate and consciously write what you want in your life.

Love Your Work

Life is too short to not do work you love. We spend a huge portion of our time at work. We deserve to have it be something we love to do.

It is very important that you really like your job because that energy shows through in the smallest thing you do.

Do you need a new job? Look around for what that might be.  Are you even in the right field?

Ask for an information interview from some in a field you are interested in.  I did that in New York City – asked for an introduction to film distribution. The sole proprietor had a great time telling me about the work he loved and I learned that it was not a field for me. Network to find what interests you and what skills and talents are required to be successful at it.

Don’t settle, keep doing only work you love.

===DEEPEN YOUR SPIRITUAL PRACTICE===

Self-Healing Spiritual Practice and Deepening Awareness of Our Cosmic Oneness

Create a Nightly Ritual

There are several steps to creating a night ritual.  One is to offer gratitude for what has unfolded during the day. When you reflect back over the events that unfolded, you can see the gifts and the lessons and the insights it brought. Contemplate the new possibilities they suggest.

I always set up protection for the night. Mine is in the form of a song and I also experience myself being tucked into a transformative sphere which not only protects but transforms any negative energy I might emit or encounter during the night.

And of course I clear that sphere once I’m awake in the morning and set it up as protection for the new day.

I do refresh the protective sphere in my room each morning because there is a lot of traffic in an out during the day.

I am now up early enough to watch the sun rise and play my drum and sing greeting songs to the directions and offer my services. How will you expand the rituals you use for opening and closing your day?

I Got My Drums Back!

I had given away a drum that I made 40 years ago two times – It just came back to me which is perfect. I didn’t know I get back my big blue djembe drum which is a pretty funny thing to own in a nursing home. They have already suggested drumming circles but I’ve never even been to one. Since my arthritic fingers are making my flute playing less than delightful, I can certainly improve my drum playing. The drum that I like the best is the frame drum. It has no ties in back. A long time ago women were not allowed to have drums so they use their grain sieves as drums which is why it’s different than other ones. You use your thumb to hold the frame. I can play it softly and look out the window at the world. I have six drums in a collection as a resident of a long-term care facility.  But the world wanted me to have a way to celebrate life and I have it.

The Guest House

This being human is a guest house.

Every morning a new arrival.

A joy, a depression, a meanness,

some momentary awareness comes

as an unexpected visitor.

Welcome and entertain them all!

Even if they are a crowd of sorrows,

who violently sweep your house

empty of its furniture,

still, treat each guest honorably.

He may be clearing you out

for some new delight.

The dark thought, the shame, the malice.

Meet them at the door laughing and invite them in.

Be grateful for whatever comes.

Because each has been sent

as a guide from beyond.

— Rumi

===HOW TO BE A STRONG CONTRIBUTING MEMBER OF THE CIRCLE OF LIGHT BEARERS===

Expand Your Role in the Rapidly Evolving Universe

Build Your Leadership Skills

As I watch the mess the US Republicans are making, I once again see a self-focused group who are only interested in power.

I understand when people are self-focused because of survival but I do not understand the need for power. It is an ego driven need and if I were guessing I’d say part of it was a need to bolster their ego because of feelings of insecurity. And I guess I also have to leave room for it to be part of a “mean streak.”

Examine your willingness to compromise. If you are in a leadership position – in work or in your family – do you listen to those you lead? Do you encourage them to contribute? Do you help expand the ideas they bring to the table? Do you take time to explain the strengths and weaknesses so everyone in the group can learn?

Strong leaders help build other strong leaders by encouragement and mentoring. How are your leadership skills?

===BROADEN YOUR HORIZON – EXPAND YOUR VIEW===

Raise Your Sights and Your Expectations

Expand Your View Of World Community

I have not been around this diverse a population since I walked the streets of New York City and even there, nationalities had a tendency to congregate in their own neighborhoods. But here at Evergreen I have met several people who came from Africa in their teens and a nurse/executive who says she is the only Asian, named Nancy. One Med Aid plays the viola. Another put herself through college doing cross-country running. Our chef started out in finance and after ten day was told to go find another field.  His brother owned a restaurant so he found his calling.

There are so many stories from so many cultural backgrounds. I have expanded my view and experience of our world community.

What happens when we do that? We begin to see the lives of others from a more inclusive viewpoint.  We learn of the richness of many cultural heritages and we experience ourselves as members of the planet rather than of a specific country or race or religion. And once we raise our gaze and become focused on the survival of our planet home, we unite in caring for it.

What changes for you when you experience yourself as a citizen of the planet? How does your responsibility change?  Get to work on that.

===CARA’S CORNER===

 I Had Surgery Last Week

I’m not going to write a blow by blow but I am sitting here at my computer at 4AM having just taken my third anti-bacterial soap shower and I am dressed and ready to go in an hour for my hip replacement. It is 5 AM and I am the first surgery patient.

I have sent energy ahead as have a few of my reiki friends, to the space, to the doctor and staff who help him and for my body’s response to this adjustment as well. And I get to trust.  An aide will come get me in an hour. She will be given a packet of information by the nurse to convey to the hospital staff. A van will come pick me up and load me and my wheelchair “Pearl” into the back. It is 33 degrees so I had a warm poncho I got in Mexico years ago and lap robe. I will spend overnight in the hospital tonight.

I have to trust a lot of people to do their jobs really well. And they will.

Later: I stayed in the hospital six days.  My big discovery was that I’m going to sleep in a recliner from here on. They had one waiting for me at Evergreen.  So I am tucked in, sitting in my wheelchair at my desk back at my computer again. The hip surgery went fine – it was just other things like my oxygen levels that kept me in the hospital for a while. And I can stand up straighter than I ever have. All is well in my world. Cara

Are You Driving Your Life Or Are You Just Along For The Ride?

Living Our Deeper Song

Ashe
(“Ah-Shay”)
 The Creative in me honors the Creative in you!

Who’s in charge of your life? Are you the one making the decisions and taking the actions that are forming the framework that impacts your life? Or are you just along for the ride, letting things show up and then making your choices and letting it take you wherever it does?

We are in charge here. Everything that happens to us is of our own making – either because of what we believe is possible or what we believe we deserve. How our life unfolds depends on what choices we make and what actions we take. How proactive are you in creating your own life?

Even as circumstances seemed to be moving me in the direction of long-term care, I still had many, many choices to make about my attitude toward going, the choices I made about what I created in my new environment, what I wanted to experience and how I internally approached this major change in my life. Those beliefs, and expectations and choices are driving my decisions and my expectations.

You may think that you are stuck in a situation. You’re not, it’s simply where you find yourself and from where you get to move forward. If you don’t like where you are, turn the wheel, change directions, go faster or slower or get off the bus.

Your mental attitude towards change is cornerstone to how change evolves. If you are excited and willing to learn and see it as an adventure, it will be fun and fruitful. If you see it as a dead end, that’s exactly what it will be. Change your perspective, change your life experience.

As we age, our choices seem less broad. Notice I did not say limited. When we get creative, we can find new ways of doing some version of everything. And anything.

I do the Shaking Qigong movements seated in my chair because I don’t stand up very well. I do it several times a day and it is effective. We get to modify how we do certain things. But we still do them.

Approach your circumstances from a different angle. As my dry macular degeneration continues, it was a game changer for me to have a 21-inch monitor so I can work in large type. Sometimes we simply need to change the mechanics of how we do something.

Change the situation. You may have outgrown a friend or that friend may take a different path and you choose to go forward. You may find new friends that inspire and motivate you to explore a new path.

Be open to change. Go exploring. Make new choices. Drive your life in the direction you want to go. Do not just go along for the ride. Be creative, adapt, and get busy designing your new life.

DEEPER SONG AFFIRMATION

I take charge of my life journey and make choices that take me in the direction I want to go

DEEPER SONG PROCESS

  • Look carefully to see where you are. Simply allowing things to happen instead of making choices to go in a direction you want to go.
  • Go exploring.
  • Guide your own path.
  • Make your own choices.

===INNER WORK===

Deepen Your Inner Awareness

Value Your Own Wisdom

Over the years we accumulate a wisdom that helps us make informed decisions.  Wisdom is required to make our daily choices. It accumulates with time and experience.  Pay attention to the suggestions the universe offers and see what ideas and plans and actions it suggests. Every experience adds to the depths of our wisdom and adds insights and guidance for our journey.

Learn to recognize the voice and let it help guide your choices.

===SELF-HEALING===

Take Responsibility for Healing Yourself

Create Your Own Safe Haven

I have a suite mate here in Evergreen Long Term Care because we are both being covered by Medicare. Her television tastes run to old game shows and Turner classics and pawn shows. I watch a lot of news and now that my bluetooth headphones are hooked up to my computer, I’m on Pandora and will get on Spotify for music and podcasts.  I haven’t tried audiobooks yet as I’m a visual learner. I have some learning and adjusting to do. Be patient with yourself as you continue to change and adapt.

===OUTER  WORK===

Explore New Potential and Possibilities

Step Back And Observe

The more complicated something is, the harder it is to get distance on the evolution and thrust. The more complex the project, the greater the need to step back and observe. Take a deep breath, quiet your busy mind. Perhaps even go into nature to center yourself and bring your awareness to the natural unfolding that expresses itself in so many forms. When we return to considering our circumstances, we do it slowly, observing the overall picture more than the details, to see that we’re headed in the right direction. Then we adjust, we make corrections, we drop some things and expand others until our next step forward is clear and we are getting results we are looking for. The bigger the project, the more often you should step back and observe. If you are to gain perspective, you see the overview and the progress. See if you are still going in the direction you choose or if an entirely new choice has appeared.

Get The Help You Need

It is with great relief that I am surrounded by Health Care Professionals who are helping to find out what’s going on with my body and creating personalized plans to help me get better. Do not put off asking for the help you need, whether it’s a medical understanding or the positive shift you need to make sure you take charge of your belief system and find the professionals that work with your needs.

How To Nurture Your Creative Energy?

My suite mate here at Evergreen was a potter. She loved to create, but since that art form is no longer available to her, she needs to find a substitute. How do you downsize creativity and keep it relevant?

I am using drawing pencils to sketch my shamanic journeys. That helps me remember them when I review the drawings.

I used to play the piano. I used to sing in coral groups. Today I have my native flutes, my Celtic drum and kalimba thumb piano. How do you nurture your creative energy and use your imagination? Keep that creativity going.

How You Fill Your Day

I have an opportunity to re-examine how I fill my days.  Over at Ridgeview I know I was watching too much news, playing too much Spider Solitaire and watching reruns of Murder She Wrote until I could mouth the dialogue. These first two weeks at Evergreen have been filled with new faces and awesome help. Lots of help. Despite having the flow of professionals come in to cheer me on as a new member of the community, who listen and care about my well-being, I am once again faced with long days that I can fill as I choose. It is a clean slate on which I could write anything. Twice I have fallen asleep in my chair. I have yet to take a nap. And daylight savings mixed me up even more.

A new environment and new opportunities to be explored and some choices to be made.

How do you choose to fill a new situation? What criteria do you use? What preferences do you discard?

I will begin with my objectives.

My body: I’m looking out at a garden with paved walks and handrails, a gazebo and apparently places to grow things in the summertime. So even going to the door every day to breathe in the fresh air would be an activity of sorts. Not a particularly ambitious one but a distance to cover and a goal to achieve. Choose a goal that you will achieve and repeat it.

I need to have a variety of objectives. Some physical, some mental, and of course my spiritual practice.

Although I already spend a lot of time at the computer, I want to add a category called mental stimulation. It’s about learning. It will be a podcast. I have to figure out audiobooks. None of that is about moving my body.

This is an opportunity to change my pattern, to identify what no longer serves me. I’m going to begin by adding things to replace some of my less than stellar choices on how to use my time.

Isn’t it interesting how we can maintain not particularly productive cycles. And sometimes we don’t even notice it.

What makes you feel productive? What feeds your mind and what stimulates your soul path? Are you just filling your time or are you using your time wisely?

I might actually create a soft schedule to make certain that I alternate mental stimulation and physical stimulation. I have no trouble with the first one and am really pokey about the second level. And I like to be spontaneous.

How are you failing to meet your needs? It’s not that you need a schedule to follow but you could create a schedule of opportunity in which certain activities could be placed.

I have an 18-minute Qigong video from Robert Peng that I would like to learn. I’m starting a new class with Deng Ming-Dao that will give me work to do to expand my Qigong practice.

Begin by choosing an area you want to establish. I wish I would do more Transcendental Meditation. Where do I put that? I want to expand my Qigong practice. Where do I want to put that in my day? Perhaps identify general times in your day to put one type of activity in order to build your daily practice for both your spiritual life and your physical well-being. First, see which part of your day you want to change and then begin to establish it in the vicinity of a general timeline.

7:30 – daily spiritual practice including Qigong

8 Breakfast

8:30 -10 Open email, Write on newsletter

10-11 learn something. Listen to a podcast.

11 – News

12 Lunch

Keep it fluid. I’m still having a lot of interruptions so I have to be flexible with when I do things. Experiment and find a pattern you can maintain.

===DEEPEN YOUR SPIRITUAL PRACTICE===

Self-Healing Spiritual Practice and Deepening Awareness of Our Cosmic Oneness

Change Your Clock

In the US we changed our clocks recently to get rid of daylight savings time and return to regular time. That made me pause to think in what ways I needed to change my own clock, my own sense of timing, and make adjustments for the winter season. The days are gradually growing shorter which means I may wake up in the dark and eat my supper in the dark. The changing seasons is a good time to reflect on how you’re doing, what you are doing, and when you are doing it. It’s a good time to make changes. To add or subtract to your spiritual practice and your physical practice.

Do you have a goal? Since I am in a new environment my goal is to take advantage of all the physical help and establish a routine of healing. Physical therapy is helping a lot. But I’m also eating better. And the things that are hard for me to do are now being done for me. There will come a time when I will not have quite so many people coming to introduce themselves to me and tell me what their area of expertise is for my well-being.

I get to look at how I spend my time. The choices I make. The choices I don’t make. I am in the process of establishing a new rhythm that impacts when I get up (early) when I eat (on schedule), and how I spend my time (on the computer). I have a lot of new patterns to develop and establish. Because there are so many people to help me do everything, I have to create my own physical routine to keep me moving along.

How are you adapting to the change in seasons? What new plans do you have? What do you want to explore? It’s time to change your clock and create the patterns you want to establish in your life.

Do Your Thing

I’ve been here 10 days and I have not yet played my flute for my spiritual practice. Part of it is that with arthritis in my fingers, sometimes I don’t play very well. And the door to the hallway is always open and this is the conservative Midwest. So an old woman playing a native flute is an anomaly.

I will do it. Because it’s important to me but this is a conservative population and I have already gone very, very far afield simply because of my eclectic being-ness. I will continue being me, but I may break it to them gently.

Do you simply let the chips fall where they may? It’s important to fully express yourself in all areas of your life.

===THE CHARGING STATION ===

Working As Healers

I knew I was to have a new role before I moved but I am surprised at what it is. Evergreen is full of social workers who are deeply in service. I know my role is to help them expand their holistic inquiry if it calls to them. I am a resource and an encourager.

I had been here about a week when I realized that my new role is about supporting these incredibly kind spiritual people who are in deep service. I decided to make my space a charging station so whoever comes in receives positive, supportive, loving energy. And I will tell you there’s a huge flow of people in and out of this room.  And all of them are motivated by a huge desire to be in service.

On Zoom I have gathered together a group of dear friends. I call us The Rainbow Weavers. We meet monthly on Zoom. This month I have asked for their help in creating my Holistic Charging Station.  I still have quite a few crystals left but I have chosen a Himalayan Salt Lamp with a forest scene that sits on my dresser and it’s on all the time. There are chunks of orange salt rocks surrounding the light and at our next meeting we are going to take the rocks from the Himalayan Salt Lamp and imbue each of them with a quality that will serve those who are in deep service here. That way the lamp is always sitting on the dresser putting out loving, supportive energy to whomever comes by. Based on what we discover I will share some ideas on how you can create a charging station for yourself or your family in your home or your office.

Bo gave me a shower today. He put me in a wheelchair to take me to the shower room and help me take a shower. It turns out he is one of my cornerstone people. He asked me about my flutes and wanted to know more about my holistic work. He will share that with like-minded people and the connectedness will expand. Don’t you love it when the universe opens the door so wide you have no choice but to skip merrily through. I love it. I have had several of the people who work here tell me they are glad I’m here. I am too.

===GUIDANCE FROM OUR COSMIC COUNSELORS ===

Listen Beyond the Voice Within

My Journey To The Cosmic Counselors: Talk to me about this new role that is opening up.

Once again I am in my Secret Garden but this time, I have crossed the reflecting pool and I’m sitting in the center of the circle surrounded by the three Cosmic Counselors that have shown themselves to me thus far.

You are moving into a very deep place of service. When people focus on helping others, the entire dynamic changes. Create your Charging Station and listen to see how you can teach others to do that. You will touch many lives as you continue to expand in your own life and others will see it. And want to emanate it. There are many forms of service and teaching is one of them. Be a light. Be a teaching light. Show others the open path.

I sit on the bench on the other side of the reflecting pool and The Director is there. “A teacher of light ,” I say. “Yes,” he says, “a teacher of light.”

===HOW TO BE A STRONG CONTRIBUTING MEMBER OF THE DIVERSE CIRCLE OF LIGHT BEINGS===

Expand Your Role in the Rapidly Evolving Universe

Helping Professions

The majority of people in this long-term care facility are social workers. They are very kind, caring people. One young man said he was in the field because his mother was a social worker and he had gone to work with her at times.

As a social worker you can pick the population with whom you want to work. It could be a particular group or a particular type of problem. The jobs here range from nursing to dietitian to cook, to caregivers for us on many levels, to people doing housekeeping and maintaining the building, and the two girls who do laundry for the entire complex. Noble indeed. And probably more I don’t even know. The shifts are long but the people sure are kind.

Patricia is my life coach. She is my go-to person to answer questions and coordinate everything I do and the care I receive. The physical therapy room has practitioners of physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy.  My favorite is the recumbent bike –  it recently told me her name is Shirley. This week Sarah my PT person watched me get in and out of bed.  The bed is an agile contortionist, the head and foot of the bed go up and down separately with the push of a button and I use that feature as leverage for getting in and out of the bed.  It’s just taken me some time to figure it out but I have a good system now.

There is a standing menu and a daily menu and I can have a snack when I want. The emphasis is that this is our home. People here bring our food, make our beds, and help with anything physical we need. All supplies are provided. We can go to a dining room or eat in our rooms. My life coach who is responsible for overseeing my cara00 also labeled every piece of clothing I brought in because the laundry is done in a central location so without a name tag, they can’t return it to you.

These are very kind, caring people and of course have chosen a profession of caring for others. I am surrounded by deeply dedicated, supportive people in deep service. It is a good place to be.

===BROADEN YOUR HORIZON – EXPAND YOUR VIEW===

Raise Your Sights and Your Expectations

How Do You Know When You Need A Major Change?

Change comes in all sizes. Sometimes a small change makes a big difference. And sometimes a big change is difficult to do. How do you put change in perspective?

I kept getting nudges where I was living. The first was that I could no longer do the walk back-and-forth to do my own laundry. It was hard to get things off the floor. Then it was hard to move the trash out on the walker. Things just got harder and harder as I refused to take action because of them.

It can be a gradual and subtle diminishing of power when you continue to make small compromises one on top of the other.  And if you know you have to downsize, that’s a whole challenge within itself.

Play attention to the nudges the universe gives you and begin to look at your options for change.  They may open new doors. Don’t be afraid of big change. Consider it an adventure as well as an opportunity.

===CARA’S CORNER===

Our Future

I wrote this knowing that the balance of power in the Senate and House have not yet been decided after the US election. It turns out that many people did understand how much is still at stake in this country. Women in particular made themselves heard. It seems like the women and some inclusive men are on one side and a big portion of old men are on the other. That is the Divine Feminine continuing to unfold and gain strength and power in the world.

How and when will we regain our awareness of our oneness? Is it a generational thing? Why cannot we each take action for the highest good of all? Why are we fighting to have the rules support only our own way of thinking? We must learn how to live in an inclusive and compassionate way.

So much of this seems wrapped up in the concept of self, not the whole, the collective well-being.  There is no honoring of different viewpoints to see them as valuable and informative, and give them space to exist. Our future is in our hands and we must make our choices wisely and embrace the wholeness of who we are – One Energy.

===SING A DEEPER SONG ===

Wholeness

I am a ripple in the river of life. I am the curve of the rainbow. I am the song of a bird. I am the laughter of a child. I am wholeness.

I am a ripple in the river of life. I am the curve of the rainbow. I am the song of a bird. I am the laughter of a child. I am wholeness. I must live with an ever-present awareness of my interconnectedness with all things and always choose for the greater good of all.

I am a ripple in the river of life. I am the curve of the rainbow. I am the song of a bird. I am the laughter of a child. I am wholeness. I must live with an ever-present awareness of my interconnectedness with all things and always choose for the greater good of all. We are all participants in the Web of Life and must think accordingly. We are One.

What You Can Imagine You Can Create

Living Your Deeper Song

Ashe
(“Ah-Shay”)
 The Creative in me honors the Creative in you!

As I try to find my role and my path in this world that is changing so rapidly one of the answers that I am drawn to is found in the book “The Quest of Rose: The Cosmic Keys of Our Future Becoming (Future Humans Trilogy) Book 1 by Anneloes Smithsman and Jean Houson.

Now I have not finished it by any means but I am already blown away by this concept:

One of the core ideas is that when we understand that was ARE Cosmic Consciousness a whole new world of possibilities opens up – instantaneously.  We immediately drop our human limitations and go soaring into the expansive realms of possibility.

How do we do that?  Is creating a new future as easy as moving into our imaginal powers and making stuff up? And if so, what do I want to make up?

For me, the vast diversity in humanity is daunting.  Each individual has a different need, a different take on how to do something, a different belief system.  It makes sense to use our imaginal powers to manifest the life we live and the world we live in.  If we can imagine it, it can exist.

I get to shift my focus.  Insisted of noticing what is not working, I get to look for and focus on what is working.

Now, I observe and am excited by the oppoturnities that keep opening up.  When are aware, when we make choices for the highest good, we have a way to save the planet, to live in peace.  But we have to make those our highest priority.  W cannot put our own needs first.  We must find within us the qualities and form of expression that radiant out the most wholeness, the most tranquility, and we get to reside there.  Others feel that and notice those same serene qualities in their lives and begin to cultivate them more. And the world grows calmer as more and more of us center and focus and calm our oath thoughts, beliefs, and expectations.

But we have to look for those quitter expectations, we have to want to live in deer serenity.  We have to want to peacefully coexist.  When we recognize what we want, we can take steps to move ourselves toward it.

If you shut your eyes and picture yourself in a serene place in nature, your whole body responds – your breath calms,  your shoulders relax, your heart rate slows.  All because you shifted your focus onto an image of serene existence.

We get to do that more often – shift our inner gaze.  Look for those tranquil rhythms within and reside in therm.

Begin with an open mind.  Monitor your thoughts and particularly monitor your expectations.  Develop a sprite practice that involves slow breaths,  going within, and floating off into your imagination where you look for and find and exist in tranquility – with others and alone. Once you experience it you can begin to bring it into your human expression – let a conscious breath center you, take a long gaze out the window at nature, and tune into that slower tempo.  All of these steps change your rhythm and your expectations.

Use your imagination to explore the way you would like the world to be.  Then stand bak and watch it manifest.

DEEPER SONG AFFIRMATION

I focus my attention on a positive expectation for our planet and my life expression.

===INNER WORK===

The Power of Encouragement

You don’t know encouragement has been missing in your life until you get it. I have been receiving physical therapy for several weeks now and I realize how powerful the encouragement that I received from my physical therapist is in motivating me to do the work. She doesn’t ask me to do too much. She does encourage me to keep doing what she has taught me. And it is making a huge difference in my willingness to do the exercises that she has assigned me.

So how do I give that to myself? How do I encourage myself?

First of all, notice where you’re lagging behind and where you need encouragement. Then create your own little cheerleading section – yeah you did this – yeah you did that. Acknowledge the steps you do take and also identify what feels like a stumbling block, and take time to look for a way to walk around it or climb over it or find another path. We are on a continuous journey. Some parts of the path are easier than others. We have to find a way to encourage ourselves to keep going.

Singing while you do a task might help. Putting on music in order to exercise might help. Having a specific purpose like getting the mail that makes you walk down the hall might help. How do you encourage yourself? Who is encouraging you? And who are you encouraging to move forward in their life?

Change Your Narrative, Change Your Life

Our words have power. They manifest what we say what we see and what we experience. When we change our narrative we change our lives. So as I wrestle with my body I see that I have just made a terrible choice of words. I’m not wrestling with my body I need to think in terms of encouraging it and caring for it. See how much damage my own words almost did? So instead of looking for what is not working, I get to look at what is working. I’m going to have to change my focus a lot. I may even have to go beyond listening to anything human and go to a centered spot by being in  nature. Become more aware of simple cycles – he beginning and middle and end of the ongoing and ever-present cycles.

What are you telling yourself? What affirmations are you giving yourself? What hurts? What is adjusting? What is working smoothly? Do I focus on what a long way it feels to walk down the hall or do I focus on how good that step was and how good it feels to strengthen my body? What is the narrative you are giving yourself?  Pay attention,  Negative affirmations can be very sneaky. Monitor your thought and speak only in positive terms.

Change your narrative, change your life.  I am safe. I am cared for, the Universe loves me.  Communicate  unity, belonging, and wholeness.

===OUTER  WORRK===

How Do You Handle Discouragement?

It seems like it’s too much to do. It seems like you don’t have enough skills, energy, talent, time to make it happen. And you sit there in discouragement. What do you do? How do you move yourself out of those moments of down-heartedness? Like feeling that you can’t make it happen? Feeling like you don’t have the skills? Feeling like you’re trying to making this happen all by yourself? Those are discouraging thoughts and feelings. And they happen to all of us. What do you do when you get discouraged?

As I write that I remember Snow White’s seven dwarfs and their song “Whistle While You Work.” I think that may be the answer – to simply be in the moment and do the best you can. Be grateful that you the opportunity was sent to you. And then acknowledge what you’ve accomplished. Not what is still left to do – but what you have already done. Perhaps with your new viewpoint, you divide the steps up into smaller pieces so they don’t feel so daunting. You may have to have some help. You may need to learn some new skills. What preparation steps do you need to take to make yourself more capable of doing this job you set for yourself? Do that.

Take smaller steps and let the path unfold before you.

The Length of your Reach

Michelle, my physical therapist, gives me pieces of paper with the exercises drawn on them.  There are three on a page and are not arranged in the order I am given to do them.  I told her I would like to see these exercises on individual cards on a key ring that I could add to and easily use.  I would put them in batches of chair exercise and bed exercises and…  She liked the idea, told her supervisors and they are going to look into doing it.

Now, here’s the lesson.  I had a need.  I shared an idea.  The idea resonated.  It will get implemented and it will affect physical therapy patients from this office for years to come.  Who knows, it may spread even more.

All because I had a need and I share a solution.

What solutions are you sharing and how far-reaching will they go?

Establish a Daily Self-Scanning Practice

When we scan and soothe our energy field our body responds.  You can do this sitting or lying down. Place yourself in silliness and with your focused awarenss move slowly through your body.   Moving in and through the muscles and veins and experiencing light energy moving into every corner and crevice to cleanse and rebalance and restore.  Notice the places the energy is low and breadth energy into it.  Notice the place where energy is stuck or highly concentrated and breathe out while releasing all that stuck-ness. Take deep, slow breaths that fill your body and re-balance it.  Take another breath that moves along your aura and soothe that and balance it. Your aura extends many feet from your body.  Soothe the energy to the edges.

Be present within and feel yourself radiate out tranquility as your body regains its balance on all levels.  Breathe balance into your body and notice what changes. Breathe centered stillness into your body as  you make conscious choices through your day.

Try Something Different

Brian Clark thinks It’s Time for a New Adventure. The phrase that caught my eye was “try something different.”  He’s going to South America to the Rain Forest.  What do I, here in my space, in my circumstances, at my age and abilities try out?  What kind of adventure can I create for myself?

The first thing that comes to mind is – my mind.  I am deep into the latest Jean Houston Book and have another book waiting to take me on a great adventure.  So my mind seems to be a major path to adventure.

Try something new.  I have been invited to  attend an advanced shamanic ceremony/graduation of a close friend on Zoom. I have meaningful friends I connect with regularly who inspire me with their creative activity.  Where can I go adventuring?  What can I try that’s new?

I have a Qigong class I want to finish.  I want to do some sketching of elements from my journeys.  I am writing some very fascinating podcasts. My mind seems to be my doorway to adventure.  Wonder where it will take me…

Keep looking for change. Keep exploring new pathways. What adventure will you go on next? Where will you go?  Try something different and see what shifts for you.

Create Change by Changing the Size of the Problem

This was a huge realization for me – to change the size of the problem rather than expand on the size of the solution. It’s fairly simple. Now that I use a walker it is tricky for me to take out my trash which I put in my good-size four-wheel laundry cart and push while walking with a cane. So the problem is a large bag of trash and me on a walker. Not a good match. How do I push-pull any thing and still use the walker? My first thought was to change the frequency I took trash out as in relying on my homemaker every other week and perhaps enlisting my son-in-law the opposite weeks for once a week trash run. But I really would like to do it more often than that and I was at standstill until I got the idea that I can use my walker if I take smaller loads. I changed the problem! I made the problem smaller and found a solution that fit!

That means more frequent trips which are good for my walking but it eliminates the problem of enlisting others to solve my problem.

What problem are you facing that feels too big that if you did it in smaller chunks or more frequently it would change the execution and the result? Create change by changing the size of the problem.

Adjust Your Foundation

When I sat at my desk chair it isn’t long before my hips hurt and I had to stand up.  It is a bit tricky to keep working while standing up, looking through bifocals at a tall 21-inch monitor, and having the keyboard still down at a sitting position.

I have a solar keyboard so I figured out how to raise that but it suddenly dawned on me to change my foundation – change the size and shape of the pillows I was sitting on.  (I sit on lots of pillows to get the height I need to get out of the chair.)  It is working.  My hips are less cranky. So the lesson is that if the structure is having a problem, begin by changing the foundation. What foundation needs changing in your life?  You’d be surprised what a difference a small adjustment will make.

===DEEPEN YOUR SPIRITUAL PRACTICE===

Combinations for Your Spiritual Practice

I was listening to an introduction to a class on herbalism and David Crow said the ancient formulas put herbs together so they enhance each other’s powers.

I wondered how I might apply that idea to my spiritual practice.

For instance, I know that playing a drumming track while I play my flute expands my playing. There is a freeing element to it. It creates more space in the music because of the give and take. I know that singing the songs I made up while drumming deepen my awareness of my connection to nature.  I also know I want silence as I meditate and that wrapping a warm shawl around my shoulders enhances and deepens my experience.   There are a few Qigong breathing exercises I know that change the tension I feel at various points in my day.  I am listening to more and more classical music rather than news or stories.  Those small choices  change my experience of my day.

I know if I hum to myself as I use my walker to walk correctly down the hall it lifts my spirits and my body and turns it into an adventure rather than a task. If I could walk better I might dance down the hall!

I use my breath to use The Intentional OM Humto parts of my body.  I also use the Intentional Hum to balance circumstances.

Give some focused thought to the rhythm of your day, what energy shift you need and when and how you will manifest that.

What elements can you put together in your day that will strengthen an experience?

===DISICOVERIES ===

Here’s a very powerful description of the shamanic practice of dismemberment of thought forms by Sandra Ingerman Transmutation News – November 2021

===MY DEEPER SONG  ADVENTURES ===

Restorative Sleep

My cat, Sebastian, commandeers my magnetic Kenko Naturest® Custom Pillow the minute I abandon it. Instead of sleeping hidden in the closet he now luxuriates against my magnetic pillow. He knows it is healing.  We are both super silky – his coat, my skin and hair and I think it’s from sleeping under the magnetic KenkoTherm Cocoon.  I have also been sleeping all night with my Kenko Power Sleep Mask.  It may help with my dry macular degeneration.   Oh yes, I’ve been drinking from the PiMag Waterfall® for 20 years. Don’t you love it when you find a healing format that works for you!

===OUR EVOLVING FUURE===

The Job Of Future Generations

It was my grandson’s birthday recently and one of the things I am aware of is that his generation has their work cut out for them. They have to change their beliefs. They have to explore and learn to apply new technology. They have climate change to halt. This is a time of huge deep consequential change. And his generation and those around him are in charge of making it happen for themselves and for their children.

When we explore change, we have to let go of the familiar and truly go exploring to discover what is now possible. I subscribe to Good News Network and every day there is reporting of a new way to do something or the discovery of an animal that was thought to be extinct or a way to support an idea that had not existed before. It keeps us aware of the positive evolution that is so prevalent today when we look for it.

If you are raising children make certain you teach them flexibility and questioning and the love of change, the adventure of changing, the need to change. We are always outgrowing where we are. Most of what we know is outdated, no longer useful, so what do we teach our children? Concern for the highest good for all,  the inclusion of and respect for nature. What are you teaching those around you and what are you learning for yourself?

===OUR UNFOLDING ROLE===

Our Choice

It wasn’t exactly a dream, but I woke up with a scenario moving through my mind of the angry people that I know of in the US. And where that might lead us. Certainly a divided word – one world of thoughtful, caring, inclusive, people and another of  angry, bitter, defensive, mean-spirited people – that’s a very large division. Of course, there are gradations. But we have a choice.

I was upset a few years ago when a major shamanic teacher said that there was a new path being formed to a higher level of being and even though many of us would use that higher road not everyone would and that we had to be OK with it. And I felt sad that people would be left behind. But now I see people are actively making choices. Sometimes it is an angry choice. For me, it seems to be a misguided choice. An unrealistic choice, the choice based on misinformation. But I pick up my walking stick and continue on my upward sloping path. Always seeking higher ground. Always trying to help those who travel with me along the path. I can only travel one pair. Everyone makes their own choice and crates their own future.  Mine is the high road.

===CARA’S CORNER===

I have never shared a complete journey before but this was very powerful.  I now dictate as I journey so I get great detail.

COSMIC CONSCIOUSNESS  JOYRNEY

I go to my Still Point in the center of m being and allow myself to step within it.  I dissolve, merge with, become a part of this large sphere of Cosmic Consciousness. I am floating.  And when I move my arms I fly  a little bit.  When I turn my head, I go that direction. I am flying in Cosmic Consciousness.

There is a stillness here. But there is also a humming vibration. The vibration of aliveness. The vibration of action. I am alert. And I am tingling all over. How am I to use this awareness of the cosmic consciousness in the planetary world now? I hear a whistle. A male walker is coming down the pathway whistling his tune. “You go adventuring,” he says. “You go exploring. You want to set a really high intention,” he says. What am I to help unfold? What awareness am I to share? What am I to explore and experience and bring back to share? “This is a whole new adventure, this move into cosmic consciousness. Let go of your human concepts of things like the web of life, let us give you the experiences to formulate new ways of being – new ways of communicating. New understanding of steps that can be taken. New choices.” I go deeper. I take a breath and feel my body begin to not so much dissolve as merge with the energy around it. I become a floating light of sorts. Or at least a floating glow. And I realize that my awareness has changed. I am no longer looking from my humanness. I am looking from my wholeness. An imbalance over there gets a cuddle, gets to be held and hugged and sheltered. I do the same with an eruption over there. I move in with focused intention and surround the irruption with serenity. Until it calms down.

There is a hum in my heart. A lullaby of sorts – the song of wholeness. A song of resolution. A song of assurance that all is well – all will be well.

I don’t know how, but my human body has become space. I feel it merge with and become part of the greater consciousness, the cosmic consciousness. There is an underlying hum of cosmic energy and yet there is this pinpoint of awareness of my current presence on earth. How will you work with us? I ask. The guide smiles, he tips his hat, turns and walks up the road whistling. He pulls out his flute and plays as he walks. H is the Pied Piper. Nature follows him, people follow him, he is simply being himself and it attracts others. How do I change myself to be that piper? How do I clear myself of my own misgivings in order to hold a belief in wholeness and happiness and infinite well-being? I know that it is possible because the adventurer has gone before me. I know that I am called to go adventuring because I am already on the path. Right now my message is to keep whistling and keep walking and others will hear you and find you and see you and follow you and gradually strengthen their own form of awareness and being present and understand their role of being in the universe. It is unfolding.

The guide was an example of what I am to be – hat is unfolding for me. “Explore more uses for imagination and your intuition and your inner knowing to interpret and share these universal messages how we as humans are to move into this new unfolding evolution.”

My journey experience with Stone Woman comes to mind. She lives in a cave behind the waterfall in my Sacred Garden. And one day when I went to meet her she was sitting behind a desk with her arms crossed and her hands on her shoulders. She didn’t move. Didn’t say anything. But I knew it was a greeting. In a later journey, I understood it meant “my heart crosses the earth to your heart and we build a bridge” I invite you to help me build the bridge. To become a path opener. A way-shower. And explorer. Step into the void and ask what you need to know now. Then listen. You will be shown what to do.

The Indigo Library is there with the words of wisdom. Sampson Eagle is there show me the overview. The blue bell tower is there, carrying my words of wisdom into the countryside, my Individual Harp is there, and the Circle Light Beings. I’ve already been given much help much guidance. The word “self-healing” shows up. Balance the energy field. I sit and feel the energy beginning to spiral clockwise and I get bigger and bigger and bigger and bigger and I move into the space in the cosmos and there is a point of light that I’m headed towards. Yes, I moved your space. My body heals in the cells and strengthens and releases what it no longer needs. My Still Point. I have been going within to begin which is fine but I am to allow myself to experience the Still Point in the cosmos. Go there. Listen from there. Feel from there. Experience from your soul, learn from there. Sit in the middle of the cosmos and learn.

I hear the adventurer whistling in the distance then I begin to create my own path among the stars and the planets in the universe that is in the void.
