Adjust Your Sails
Living Our Deeper Song
The Creative in me honors the Creative in you!
It only takes a small adjustment in the angle of a sail to allow a sailboat to change course and end up at an entirely new destination. Life is like that. A small course correction will take you on a new adventure. Do you need to adjust your sails?
It’s a simple as changing your focus. A shift of your attention. A raising of your gaze.
I’m going to shift in several places. Physically I have to strengthen my body. I have a plan for that.
Spiritually I want to expand my experience. I want to re-read several core books and see where they lead me now that I am at a deeper level.
I want to deepen my place of service, figuring out how to help Transformational Leaders deepen our relationship with the Unseen World and expand our role in the New Consciousness. That is a whole body of work that has yet to reveal itself.
Some of these course corrections will be small. Others will take me on grand new adventures.
All you need to do to have a new adventure is to adjust your sails.
DEEPER SONG AFFIRMATION
I give serious thought to where I am headed and make some course corrections.
DEEPER SONG PROCESS
- Pause and look at where you are headed and see if that is where you still want to go.
- What signs and signals have shown up that may suggest new options to consider?
- Examine other options and possibilities.
- Adjust your sails.
Deepen Your Inner Awareness
Pay Attention To The Nudges
Ideas, dreams, urges, unexpected insights, seemingly random encounters, unforeseen opportunities – these are all signs from the Universe supporting your life adventure.
Nothing happens without a purpose. We must stay open to new encounters, inner nudges and unexpected thoughts which are signs that the Universe is opening new paths for us to explore.
Think of the times in your life that an unexpected opportunity or encounter totally changed your idea of what direction you are to go in.
Shortly after moving to Santa Rosa, California, I met someone who invited me to the Church of Religious Science (now the Center for Spiritual Living) which I had briefly heard of right before I left New York City. I went to church and sat there saying, “I believe that!” “I believe that!” I had found my spiritual home and five years later I was a licensed spiritual practitioner all because of an encounter at a particular time in my life.
Nothing happens without a purpose. Whether it seems to move you forward or turn you aside, know that it is the universe speaking to you, opening the door for you, suggesting a new path for you.
The Universe is always looking out for us. Pay attention to the nudges.
Peaceful, tranquil, serene – all states that encourage contemplation and inner stillness. How do we cultivate that? How do we achieve that?
First we must create moments of contemplation in which we purposefully move into stillness. We quiet our mind, use our breath to release tension and move into a receptive state of feeling and listening to our voice within.
You can take these centering moments anytime, anywhere and you can also set aside a time for meditation and contemplation each day.
How do you encourage serenity? How will you experience it more often?
Take Responsibility for Healing Yourself
Seeker of Silences
Seek silence. Empty your mind and move into the sacred emptiness and make room for your inner voice to guide you. In the silence, contemplate your path, your current companions and your destiny. Perhaps you journal, perhaps you draw your vision, perhaps you simply contemplate the possibilities.
What insights do you find when you seek the silences within?
Don’t Give Up
I’m nearing the end of a 10-week Tai Chi class with Deng, Ming-Dao on The Shift Network. He moves with grace and balance and strength and he has been doing Tai Chi for decades. I want to attain that balance and strength.
Now bear in mind that I use a walker so I do strange adaptations of the moves and some of it I can’t do at all. But I want this in my life so I have some work to do. I have access to the video of the class forever. It is totally up to me to do the work even if what I can do is a poor imaging of the full move. But the trying will be strengthening and balancing.
What goal seems far away to you and how will you begin to achieve your version of it? Don’t give up.
Explore New Potential and Possibilities
The Art of Non-Attachment
Non-attachment is more than just letting go, it is about releasing any concern about the results.
We guide our children as they grow up and then we need to release them to follow their own paths.
When we take a turn in our own path, we may leave accomplishments and relationships behind. There is no going back to change or undo – there is only forward.
How good are you at the art of non-attachment?
How To Take Advantage of New Opportunities
Do you recognize a new opportunity when you see one? What action do you take? Do you examine it, explore it, considerate it, or just let it pass you by?
Don’t get so stuck on your path that you no longer take time to explore the side roads and small trails of adventure presented to you by your inner voice, or unexpected circumstances, or a phrase that catches your attention. Create and adjust but keep exploring the new paths and ideas that continue to show up. Don’t be afraid of new insights and opportunities that you can explore that may take you in a new direction.
New paths offer new possibilities. Go exploring and see what new adventures unfold.

Insights and Resources to Explore
Develop A Different Perspective
Even a slight shift can offer a different perspective and make a huge difference in the outcome.
If I want to develop a different perspective for my spiritual practice I will go exploring. I may expand what appeals to me. I have not read Rumi and Tagore and Lao Tzu for a while. I have added songs to above and below to my drumming that are still emerging. I am increasing my Transcendental Meditation time, and I have gotten my Woodstock chimes back and will create ceremony around them. I could experiment with the time of day I place my meditation practice so I have more time to lengthen it. I’m exploring sound healing more and will make room for that. All of these explorations will expand and deepen different areas and lead me to a different perspective of my spiritual practice. Some of these are major changes, some are minor but all will change your perspective, deepen your insights and widen and deepen your path. How will you develop a new perspective for your spiritual practice?
===BROADEN YOUR HORIZON – EXPAND YOUR VIEW===
Raise Your Sights and Your Expectations
Seek The Circumstances You Want
We always have choice. We can change our relationships, our professions, our way of living, our health, simply by re-choosing.
It begins by knowing what you want. Very often that is tied up in what you believe you deserve and what you believe is possible. Figure out how to seek the circumstances you want.
The Wisdom of 17-Year-Olds
I keep coming across 17-year-olds who already know they want to be doctors or surgeons or nurses or Certified Nursing Assistants and they are already showing up here at Evergreen as juniors in high school.
When I was in high school, girls were just supposed to get married and raise children. No college. No careers. Looking back my writing and organizational skills showed up in high school but a career was not something I thought about.
These young people come to me to ask about my web site and I also tell them about The Shift Network to learn about holistic healing. They are strong young women and it is an honor to know them.
Who is showing up in your life to expand your view and deepen your experience?
===OUR EVOLVING FUTURE===
Support and Encouragement for our Unfolding Role in the Future
The Emerging Generations
My experience with different generations is expanding. I am surrounded by people who have chosen their career path as healers. I do not have interactions with people who are still searching. The 17-year-olds are trying to ignore the news even though they will be able to vote soon. I know that will change because there are a lot of changes that must be made.
If you have young people in your life, help them feel empowered by the ability to cast a thoughtful vote.
I also know 65-yer-olds who are moving into a second careers based on a new interest that is calling them into a new role. It is not about quitting. It is about becoming self-empowered and designing their desired path for the next thirty years.
Except for the health career field, I don’t know any members of the working generations but I know there is new technology that is changing the workplace and they must stay flexible and agile.
Flexible and agile. We must all cultivate that. We must stay open to chance. We must stay open to new ideas. We must be willing to stay open to new ways of both doing and being. How flexible are you? Do you continuously welcome change?
How are you supporting the emerging generations?
=== DEEPER SONG PHILOSOPHIES ===
Be Like Water
“Water never complains, but always pushes back. Always.
Drop a boulder in front of a stream and the water will simply flow around it, taking whatever opening the landscape will give or—when nothing is offered—patiently building up its resources until it rises to a height where a new gap is found.
Flow like water. Never complain, but always push back.” – James Clear
I love this image – always flexible, taking uncharted routes, with patience and determination.
How can you be more like water?

The Mushroom Suit Helps Expand Our Relationship With Death.
I have not yet made up my mind. Medical students say they learn a great deal when they get to work on a cadaver. And a friend recently suggested I send my brain to research which I had not thought about and had no idea how to do. There is a 24-hour deadline for donating your body so if it is something you want to do, set it up early. They cremate your remains and I do know that the high heat of cremation is extremely hard on the environment.
But then I read about the Mushroom Suit. The Mushroom Suit realigns people’s relationships with death.
For those looking for an eco-friendly, unconventional burial, the mushroom suit is one answer.
The Infinity Burial Suit is a handmade burial garment made with a bio mix of mushrooms and other microorganisms that aid in decomposition, help to neutralize toxins and provide nutrients to surrounding plant life.
After the burial, the mushroom and microorganisms begin to germinate. As they grow, they release enzymes that decompose the body and help break down and neutralize toxins such as lead, mercury, pesticides, and BPA. This process helps to provide nutrients to the soil while avoiding contamination to plant life, making it an environmentally sustainable disposition option.

I Got My Woodstock Wind Chimes Back!
Year ago I bought some Woodstock Windchimes. Sometime I had a good place to hang them, sometimes I did not. I got them back from my daughter and hung them in my small space by my altar. I am excited to have them active again.
What do you want to bring back into your spiritual practice?
