The Path We Choose

An Exploration of the Unseen World

We are responsible for the journey we take.  We are responsible for the path we choose. We choose what we bring with us in our backpack and we are responsible for how willing we are to keep going.

Years ago, when I left the Mid-west to move to New York City, a friend gave me a copy of the Robert Frost Poem “The Road Less Traveled.”  50 years later it still hangs on my wall. It has lived on both coasts and is now back the Mid-West – a circuitous route, truly a road less traveled.

And I am forever grateful that I had the courage to take the Road Less Traveled.

We make our choices. We reap the response. With each choice, we learn how to choose better and we keep on going.

Where are you on your journey?  What new options are you considering?  Where are you headed?

I’m Cara Lumen, spiritual philosopher and founder of the Deeper Song Community. I am a cosmic explorer who consciously travels into the unseen world to serve as a bridge to help us expand our relationship with the spiritual world. I share what I learn and guide those who are ready to the next level so we can sing a deeper song.  Thank you for being a part of this journey

In this episode of Reflections of a Deeper Song, we think about The Path We Choose.

This is a translation of a poem by Antonio Machado.  When I first heard it I cried.  It is called “Traveler.”

Traveler, your footsteps are the road
There is nothing more.
Traveler there is no road.
The road is made by walking.
 Walking makes the road.
And if you turn around you only see the path you can never walk again.
Traveler, there is no road, only a trace of foam upon the sea

Let me read it again:

Traveler, your footsteps are the road
There is nothing more.
Traveler there is no road.
The road is made by walking.
 Walking makes the road.
And if you turn around you only see the path you can never walk again.
Traveler, there is no road, only a trace of foam upon the sea

There is a sadness about never going back. There is a challenge in knowing your next step is creating your new path.

Let’s see hat we can learn from this poem:

What is our read made of? What choices have you made that brought you to where you are today?

How do we make our road? If each step is responsible for creating our path, how aware are you of the next step you are taking?

Finally, what are our choices about directing our path? How do we make them?  How do we choose?

What is our read made of?

“Traveler, your footsteps are the road
There is nothing more.”

With each step, we create the path we take. Our choice directs were we go next.  Now that is very important to know.   That means that in every move we have choice . Choice to go one way or another, we get to take the path that goes up or the path that goes down or left or right or straight ahead.

With each step in each moment, we are creating our path.  Each thought creates our next experience. We can control that.  The deeper the awareness we have of our own heart, our own purpose,  the more aligned is the step we take as we make our road one chosen step at a time.

Do we stand still on our road? If only footsteps make the road, then standing still to consider, to contemplate before we choose our next step is a good thing to do.  But we don’t move forward until we take that next step.  That next step creates our road.

How do we make our road?

We have created where we are stanging today through the choices we did or did not make. I am deeply aware that some of my choices were made with more awareness than others.  And some steps were taken in response to an experience.  We each create our own path by the choices we do or do not make. The steps we do or do not take.

“Traveler there is no road.
The road is made by walking.
Walking makes the road.”

If I stand here doing nothing, I am not traveling, I am not moving forward.  “The road is made by walking.” So I have to take a step. I have to make a choice. I have to put one foot in front o the other and look to see where it has taken me.  I have to see if it is aligned with my beliefs and if it is taking me where I want to go, to what I want to do.

I can only move forward by taking a step, and then another step and then another step. “Walking makes the road.”

We need to try, we need to explore, we need to experiment. We have to move forward in order to learn, to understand, to experience, and to absorb.  That’s a lot from one step. But even one step provides us with a new view.

“Traveler there is no road.
The road is made by walking.
Walking makes the road.”
And we cannot walk the path again .”

There is no going back. What’s done is done.  Learn from it, change from it, and build on what you learned – but you cannot go back and change it .

“And if you turn around you only see the path you can never walk again.
Traveler, there is no road, only a trace of foam upon the sea.”

How delicate is our journey.  We have left ripples with our footsteps but those ripples are long gone.  We have survived the high seas of our journey, the high tides, the low tides, but there are no traces of our path, our footsteps, our traveling though left to see.  Only in your heart, only in your memory, only in your regrets only in your knowledge that you made good choices. You walked a strong path.  And those steps of the past are not your next step.  They are gone.  Past moments in time that has dissolved.

It’s as if we are standing on a ledge of time with only a next step to take.  We can choose a new direction. We can choose a big step or a small step, a hesitant step, or a bold one.  We can go in one direction or the other. But the only way our road unfolds is if we take a step.

Here’s the Robert Frost that still hangs on my wall and live in my heart.

The Road Not Taken

BY ROBERT FROST

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

Traveler, your footsteps are the road
There is nothing more.
Traveler there is no road.
The road is made by walking.
 Walking makes the road.
And if you turn around you only see the path you can never walk again.

Traveler, there is no road, only a trace of foam upon the sea

The Unseen World Needs Us

An Exploration of the Unseen World

I was surprised when I realized that The Unseen World needs us – it needs us to translate, to pass along their messages and teachings and guidance.  We need to learn to pay attention.  We need to learn to understand.

I use shamanic journeys to explore the unseen world.  I know that the objects I see are metaphoric messengers and that is one of the ways the Unseen World communicates.  How it guides us,  how it teaches us.  The Unseen World needs us in order to share its wisdom. We are their translators and interpreters of the Unseen World.

95% of All That is is Unseen.  Not only do we need to go exploring, but we need to learn to bring back the message we are given. We can help the Unseen World communicate with us here on the planet?  One of the ways they guide us with their wisdom is when some of us go to the unseen world and learn to interpret what we are shown.

That’s why we are seen as transformative leaders.  We are to go to the Unseen world and bring back guidance and insights and interpret them for our planetary experience.  We can do that.

Thank you for being a part of this journey.

In this episode of Reflections of a Deeper Song, we give some thought to Why The Unseen World Needs Us

I was very surprised when I heard the idea that the Unseen World needs us.  It was in a shamanic group I am in lead by international Shamanist Hank Wesselman. He shared the idea that there is a vibational force that is huge but it is largely ignored by people on the planet. But it has major, important, valuable guidance to give us, that we must learn how to gather and how to share.

We are messengers.  We are interpreters of the Unseen World.

We have work to do.

I don’t know where I heard that 95% of the universe is unseen.  In fact, I think as actually 94% and who is measuring and how? But the fact is there sure is a lot we have to explore and try to understand.

It begins with our intuition, that subtle but powerful “knowing” our next step. That hunch that turned out to be right on.

We have all daydreamed or visualized at some point.  That is the Unseen World speaking to you. I use shamanic journeys to visit the Unseen World and know I am to interpret the metaphorical messengers from the unseen World to receive the messages from the Unseen World. There are many ways to explore the Unseen World and our charge is to interpret it.  To be one of its voices, if you will. Then we are to live hat we learn and also turn and share what we understand. We become messengers, interpreters. We are to be a voice for the Unseen World.

What can we do to turn the wisdom we receive from the Unseen World into an individual awareness, individual understating, individual application here in our body personal?

Let’s explore what the unseen world is and how we know it is there.  What kind of messages it may want to offer us and what we are to do with those messages?.

What is the Unseen world and how do we know it is there?

What makes things grow?  What makes the weather change?  What makes the stars in the galaxies?  What is beyond what we, here in a planetary presence can even imagine?

My understanding is that we are all part of a vast Oneness.  Call it the Great Mystery, The Void,  The Nowhere That we Came Form, All-That-Is, Tao. The name of it needs to be non-human, it needs to be so indescribable that we cannot restrict its power and capability by trying to describe it in the limiting vocabulary of being human.

We do it though open stillness.

The more I listen to the Unseens World, the clearer the messages become.  My best writing comes when I close my eyes, listen to the words I hear from my inner voice, and type what I hear.  I listen to the words that are being moved through my fingers knowing that I am being guided by the Unseen World as a messenger from them – to you, to us,  to whoever listens.

Of course, none of this is provable to us here in our limited physical presence.  But, we know.  We know there is more.  We know that we are limited here on earth.  And we know that a major core part of us is part of something greater, more inclusive,  more unknowable. We are not separate, we are elements of a greater whole.

So we start here, where we are, and move inward.

We need and welcome the wisdom and guidance of the Unseen World  What do we offer it in return? Why does it need us?

We begin to explore the unseen world by first listening to our intuition. As we listen more closely to our inner voice the more we trust it and respond to it. The more we listen the more we hear. What kind of messages does the Unseen World want to share through us?  How do we help it be heard?

We have a body  We have a mind, we have words, we can communicate with other humans.  The unseen world has none of that so we are truly messengers, interpreters of the Great Vastness.  We just have to learn to listen.

The more I listen the more I hear.  I did not plan to create this particular podcast script  I just knew I needed to write it down so I could figure it out.  So there I sat, typing away, listening as hard as I could to my inner voice and wondering what would show up next.  I listened. And I was given what to say. I, Cara Lumen, sat there in my body, with my eyes are closed and my fingers transcribing as fast as the ideas came in.  I was listening to and hearing the Unseen World share with both of us, with me, with you.  I am a translator, an interpreter as I figure out ways to apply what I learn.

You can hear the Unsend Word   when you pause and listen.

I think the Unseen World speaks to each of us a bit differently because we are sitting here in our individual personas with different skill sets and interests and callings.  We are looking for different things.  We are given different insights.  So when we ask, we are given work that fits with what we are capable of doing, what we are called to do. We get to choose if we help or not but it’s exciting when we do choose to become the voice of the  Unseen World.

What are we to do with these messages we receive from the  Unseen word? That depends on who they are for.

I listen because I am a passionate learner.  I am curious. I am excited about what I am finding.  When I am given a message fro the Unseen World, I love to turn and figure out what it means for me, for us,  and then I turn and share what I learn with others.   In a way, I’ve been doing that most of my life – the exploring part at least.  But I’m 87 now and have a lot of stored-up experience and insights and can make some very interring connections from one point to another.  It’s great fun actually. So we serve where we are called.  You may be called to focus on one particular aspect.  Do that.  You may be called to explore a lot of pieces and figure out how to put them tougher.  Do that.  I just keep going deeper, being drawn to explore and interpret what I am shown, the insights I am given.

You will know. The unseen world will tell you how you are to serve.

There are many ways to explore the unseen world mediation, dreams, journeying, chanting, dancing, art, whatever form, it takes you to a vibration higher than your body so you can experience and recognize the part of your that is Unseen, the part of you that is being shown and taught and guided by the Unseen World.

How do you do that?. How do you explore the unseen world?  Begin with your intuition.  Begin to notice unusual circumstances that show up.  Do an intentional shamanic journey and ask what your role is, what you are to share, how you are to share  How are you to serve as an interpreter of the Unseen World?  Then figure out how you, in your individual planetary expression are to turn and share what you have learned with others.  Perhaps you teach, perhaps you simply live what you have learned as an example.  Perhaps you simply absorb what you learn and build on it for another time.

We are messengers.  We are messengers that the Unseen World needs.  Be in service.  Go listen.  Interpret what you are shown. Figure out how to apply it to body being and then teach it share, it, live it by example – whatever you are called to do in your own self expression.

The Unseen World needs us.  We are its messengers.  Let’s go exploring and learn to interpret and share its messages.

By the way, I just got a message from the Unseen world, it said, “Good job, Cara, thank you o for listening. Thank you for sharing. Ashe.

Think on that and see where it leads you.

  • I hope I brought you some new awareness, deeper ways to connect, and insights and encouragement for your next steps.

Change Your Thinking, Change Your Life

Explorations of the Unseen World

Our thoughts create our reality. When you change your thinking, you change your life.

The second that we change our thinking is the exact second our life changes – for better or worse, depending on what we just thought. There is great power in knowing that.

Our thoughts create our reality. We create our life by our thoughts and our expectations.  When we learn to examine what we are thinking, what we are expecting, we have more power over what act ally manifests.

If you are in a situation you do not like, examine the thinking and the expectations that got you there.

If you love where you are, do the same – examine the thinking and expectations that got you there so you can repeat them.

Here’s the primary key to changing your life:  Your life is determined by what you think you deserve and what you think is possible.  Let’s talk about that…

Welcome to Reflections of a Deeper Song.

Thank you for being a part of this journey.

This is an important episode. It’s about how to  Change Your Thinking to Change Your Life:

Within a few weeks of having moved from New York City to Santa Rosa, California I was invited to attend the Center for Spiritual Living. I had not been to church in a very long time but I am very spiritual and metaphysical. As I sat there on that first Sunday and listened to the sermon, I kept thinking, “I believe that.  Oh, I believe that too”  and when we all joined hands at the end and sang “We are one” I knew I had indeed found my spiritual home. Five years later I was a practitioner, a member of the clergy, a licensed spiritual counselor.

But someplace early in that journey, I was sitting on the front row when Reverend Edward said. “Your life is determined by what you believe you deserve and what you believe is possible.”

I stoped cold.  Is it really that easy?  Just change what I expect?

I’ve been working with  that idea ever since…

There are thee thing to consider here.

– Your thoughts create your reality.

– You get what you believe your deserve and

– You get what you believe is possible

Change your thinking, change your life

As I began to work with this idea that our thoughts create our realty, I was taught to pay close attention to my words – the affirmations I was giving myself.  “I can’t do that – That’s too hard.”  And I was also taught to always say positive things because our words become what we affirm to be so.

An affirmation is said in the present tense as if it were so. I am whole, perfect, and complete.

Your thoughts create your reality.  Begin to monitor your thoughts.

Your thoughts create your life experience. Your thoughts create how your life unfolds. That’s a very big responsibility – to know that we create our lie eserine with our thoughts.

If you can imagine it you can make it happen.  Now it may look a little different than you thought.  For instance, if I really, really, really wanted to become an astronaut I may end up as an astrophysicist or I may discover a new galaxy through a telescope. Or I move deeply into Astrology.  Let your intention unfold and prepare to be surprised! Just remember your thoughts create your reality, your life experience

Your life is unfolding along the path created by your thoughts and expectations. Look for your individual path and see what is manifesting there that will guide you to the most aligned goal.

It’s vital that we monitor our words – notice what we are saying – what we are thinking – what we are expecting – the affirmations we are giving ourselves – both positive and negative.

As a spiritual practitioner, I was really seeped in monitoring my vocabulary to only say positive, affirmative things.  One day in a group setting I was asked how I liked a particular rug.  I didn’t.   It was obviously new and pleased the owner greatly. And I had to really work hard to find something positive to say.  I don’t remember what I finally commented on – the color perhaps or “it suits the room” but there was a distinct pause while I changed my negative thoughts to positive ones.  Work with that idea – monitor your thoughts and make sure your words are positive and affirmative.

In today’s rapidly changing world I a consciously working to focus on what I am FOR, how I want it to be, what values I want to incorporate into my life, how I want to express myself in this new world that is evolving. You don’t have to be against anything, just work to create the change you would like to see manifest. And that begins with changing yourself.

Our thoughts create our reality.  Now it so happens that our thoughts about what we deserve are sometimes very sneaky.  We need to learn to identify them and monitor them. What do you believe you deserve?

Remember, our thoughts create our reality.    That gives us great power. Change your thinking, change your life.

Your life is determined by what you believe you deserve.

This is such an important concept to understand.  It is very subtle and we really have to work at monitoring our thought to keep ourselves from letting any negative thoughts in.

Perhaps you begin by making a list of all the positive things you see about yourself. Then add the positive things others say about you.  Write them down so you see them. Perhaps you even have two columns in case a negative thought comes in – write it down so you can work to change it.  One quality might belong in both the positive and negative columns.  For instance, my enthusiasm gets a lot done and often motivates others, but and it can make me a bit pushy at times.

What do you believe you deserve?  Do you deserve to be loved?  Do you deserve to be safe?  Do you deserve to love your work?  Do you deserve supportive friends? Do you deserve to be healthy?

When you start going in the direction of “Do I deserve to get rich” – you might want to think about what “rich” means to you – safety, travel, freedom to follow your passion – don’t make it about being a consumer of items, what qualities do you want in your life – love, companionship, self-expression, satisfying work.  Those will make you feel very wealthy.  What exactly do you think you deserve?

Change your thinking, change your life .

Here’s a big one.  You get what you believe is possible.  This can be very subtle.  It can pull you down without you evening noticing.  Look closely at what you believe is possible.

I’m 87 and there’s no going back in physical age, but my curiosity is greater than ever, my creativity is on fire, and I am doing exactly what I want to do and loving it.  That’s partly because I have followed my heart, my calling with a great deal of energy, commitment, and enthusiasm!

So let’s talk about our belief in what is possible.  Sometimes it’s a matter of reframing the belief. Let’s say I want to become a famous author.  Why?  To change people’s lives.  I do that all the time with my posts and podcasts.

Do I want to be an influencer?  Only to those who need to hear what I offer and I am doing that.  You may already be doing what you want.  Look at the core reason you want something to be possible. What if your thoughts are  “I don’t think I’ll ever find a mate.”  What if you change that to “I choose to accept and experience love in my life” and the next thing you know you have a rescued cat cuddled up next to you in gratitude and affection and unconditional love. Look beyond how you are phrasing what you want to attract into your life and find the emotional or spiritual gifts you are seeking.

Something there are specific steps you need to take in order to make something possible.

I have some work to do on my physical body to make it stronger.  I’m sure running a marathon is not on my possibility list because it never was, but I have some choices I can make about movement and exercise that can modify and change the strength of my body.  So my switch has to be to change my thinking about what is possible (like standing up straighter or walking longer distances) and I simply start working on the steps I can take to move me from where I am to where my strength and stamina are better. Take actual physical plane steps towards what you want to manifest. Be persistent.  Be focused.  And watch for your wins.

Our lifetime of beliefs and choices have brought us to where we are today.  But this may be the moment in which you begin to make active, conscious, mindful choices to change our life.  Change your thinking, change or life

So the premise here is that your thoughts create your reality.  That means you have great power to change your life simply by changing your thoughts.

You get what you believe you deserve so you have great power to change your life by changing your expectations of what you deserve.

You get what you believe is possible so spend some time looking at those subtle or not so subtle expectations you have about what is possible.

Change your thinking, change your life. Every thought counts.

We have a great deal of control over our lives – through our beliefs, our choices, our thoughts, our actions.  We are not at the effect of anything – except ourselves – and our beliefs and expectations. So get busy.  Whether it’s to expand your spiritual practice, take more shamanic journeys, or add more affirmations, consciously monitor your own thoughts to make sure they are positive and supportive to your life. You have a choice. You get what you believe you deserve and what you think is possible  – Change your thinking, change your life

Here’s an affirmation for you;

I am whole, perfect, and complete  – all is well in my world. And so it is.

Think on that and see where it leads you.
