Why You Are Here

Why You Are Here

Living Your Deeper Song

Ashe
(“Ah-Shay”)
The Creative in me honors the Creative in you!

November 19, 1932 – the day I was born.  It was during the depression and there were not a lot of people having babies then.  I was a young girl when I listened on the console radio at my grandfather’s house to the bombing of Pearl Harbor. I was in high school when vets came back to go to the local college on the GI Bill. I remember the first television shows. When I graduated from the University of Kansas in 1954 I remember wondering if this was all I got to learn to prepare myself for life.  I learned Transcendental Meditation in the 60’s because the Beatles did. And had my four children take it too.

We are brought into a certain time frame in history for a specific purpose and we build our lives on that – either knowingly or unknowingly. I was in New York City during the ’80’s and did a lot of Reiki with AIDS patients.  I also developed the metaphysical foundation that I continue to stand firmly upon. There was a friend who pointed out that we were rocks and others depended on us.  And we depended on other rocks. And the day I went to the Center for Spiritual Living in Santa Rosa, California, I knew I had come home.  Five years later I was a licensed practitioner.  My decisions have been sudden but done in absolute certainty.  I suddenly knew I would move from Kansas City to NYC.  I suddenly knew I would move to California. I suddenly knew it was time for move back to Kansas City.  No debate.  Just immediate, compete, definite knowing. Followed by giant steps. I trust my inner voice.

I still have work to do.  My path is built on my lifetime of spiritual exploring.  I am to continue to explore and open up new pathways for myself and for others to follow and perhaps choose.

Each year marks a strong forward movement.  Each year brings in new awareness, new adventure, new knowing.  I have given up planning very far ahead. I work to stay in the present moment – always exploring and considering and experimenting – looking for my next steps and the discoveries and insights I am to learn for my own journey and turn and share with others.

Live your day mindfully – fully, with deep awareness of what is being offered you …… and take in as much tranquility as you can hold.

Happy 89th Birthday to me!

DEEPER SONG AFFIRMATION

I immerse myself in the fullness and tranquility of life and step forward into my deepest path of service.

DEEPER SONG PROCESS

  • Pause where you are and consider – where you are, what opportunities are unfolding, how the world is changing.  What is your role?
  • Do that.

===INNER WORK===

Draw Your Vision

Drawing is a fabulous way to try an idea on for size. It doesn’t have to be a good drawing, it just has to be an image that suggests to you the form and shape and depth and width of your vision. Give it a try. Draw your vision into life.

Step Back Into Your Own Power

In the chaos and disruption of today’s world, it is easy to feel lost or even hopeless. But it is right now, in this moment, that we are each to step into our own strength. Our inner strength of spirituality, our inner strength of higher purpose. We must step outside the disruption of our humanness and rise above this chaos. We are to gather together above the fray. We are to join together with a higher vision for the whole planet,  for the whole universe, for All-That-Is. We are to hold that vision, that higher vision, and see it and feel it and experience it and immerse ourselves in it until it becomes a reality. Think beyond yourself. Sink into the cosmos. Step into the cosmic awareness and be whole.

===OUTER  WORK===

Know Your Work Style

I’m a loner.  I prefer to work alone.  I prefer to do it my way.  It’s important to know your preferred working style.

As I watch the US congress rework and compromise and stall, I know for sure I’d rather be the CEO and simply make the decisions and stand by the results.  No compromise for me – I want flexibility and innovation and exploration, based on my own knowledge and interpretation.

I have also known I would rather work with advanced explorers than beginners.  There are always choices.  Know your work preferences and build upon them.

Get Rid of What No Longer Serves You

Periodically we need to do a reality check – what are we actually using and what is no longer part of our path.

My daughter and her husband helped me get some possessions recently – things I would never use again.  I kidded and told her there would soon just be me and all my crystals living here.

Letting go is interesting.  It can be challenging and it can be freeing.  It involves a choice.  A recognition that something is no longer useful and a willingness to let go of it.

Look around at your life and your possessions and see what needs to move on – and out.

Know What Calls To You

I was reading the wrong book.  I think it has things in it I need to know but it was deep and takes persistence and focus to read. I was having a hard time staying with it.

I had a second book, Dr. Jains’ book on biofields, and the minute I read the intro I knew I had to shift directions.

This is what I want to know now.  This is what I need to learn next.  My energy lifted, my focus shifted and I was off like a rocket ship.

Change your gaze and see what calls to you.  Then take off on the adventure.

===DEEPEN YOUR SPIRITUAL PRACTICE===

Laughter

I don’t have occasion to laugh-out-loud much. Can you remember the last time you really had a big belly laugh and you couldn’t even stop laughing? I’ve begun to look for a smile, even an inside smile. A moment that makes me pause and look and appreciate and absorb the gift of whatever it is that is making me smile. It’s not often laughter, but it is an uplifting of spirit. See what you can find today to make you smile.

===DISCOVERIES ===

Good News

CNN has a new positive news email that really lifts your spirits.  The Good Stuff

And there is also is The Good News Network

What news are you allowing to shape your day?

===OUR EVOLVING FUTURE===

Are You Moving on?

I was listening to the news – particularly about people who don’t want to change.  They don’t want to change their thinking.  They don’t want to change their beliefs. They don’t want to explore.  They don’t want to let go.  They don’t want to question. They don’t want to experiment.  They mostly do not want to be wrong. And of course, as we expand and learn and experiment, we do grow and change and replace ideas and actions.

Growth is good.  Exploration is fabulous.  Be like the breeze going through the trees and let exploration create movement in your life.

===OUR UNFOLDING ROLE===

Transmute the Past into New Sources of Energy

One of my major gifts is enthusiasm.  It takes me exploring. It inspires me to share what I discover.  Curiosity and enthusiasm are major drivers for me. As I move forward on my own journey I am to translate my lessons and achievements of the past into new sources of energy and inspiration for the future.  I build on what I know.  I stand on the heights I have achieved so far and look further afield.  My path is changing. I am climbing higher.  I am seeing further.  I am being called to higher service.  I will build on what I have learned, what I have achieved, how I have developed, and what I am called to do. Come. Let’s go adventuring!

===CARA’S CORNER===

Follow the Path that Goes Deeper

This is the time of the year when we begin to reflect on what we have done and how we are doing. How did the choices we made work out? What didn’t work out so well? Not only do we reflect, but we have an opportunity to make new conscious choices. Is there an overarching theme we should look at as we make our choices for the coming year?

In a recent journey, I got the message ”follow the path that goes deeper.” Deeper into a connection and awareness of our integration with Cosmic Consciousness. Experience a deeper spiritual presence in my daily life, one of continuous gratitude and appreciation and awareness. Make conscious choices that deepen in my inner connection with All -That-Is. A deepening awareness that enhances  my interactions on the physical plane. How do I take my path deeper? At the same time, I want to go higher. Rise above the chaos of the planet. Move off into the ethereal awareness that is available to all of us. Dig deeper to rise higher, perhaps that’s how it works out. As I deepen my relationship with my inner voice, my inner self, I learn to interpret it in more ways, from more angles. And as I deepen my relationship with my physical plane, I enrich and expand my choice of focus and action. We are to dig deep and climb high. I can do that.

===SING A DEEPER SONG ===

 Directions from Within

I settle into my Still Point and listen.

I settle into my Still Point and listen to the soul of me, my essence, my being-ness.

I settle into my Still Point and listen to the soul of me, my essence, my being-ness.  I move forward from that centered place. I dig deeper and I climb higher. All is well in my world.

The Cloak of Empowered Service

The Unseen world speaks to us through metaphors that only we are to interpret. It’s as easy as going within and asking what we need to know next.

I am being flooded with ideas for thees podcasts. New ideas keep coming in.  I took a shamanic Journey to ask what I should write about next in the way of teaching a process and I got back what turns out to be a whole wardrobe – of cloaks!

Cloaks to me are a mental you accept, a robe you put on that signifies your intention, your role,  your purpose.

I keep getting cloaks in my journeys as I accept a deeper roe in my unfolding.  What cloak is calling you? And does it take the metaphor of a cloak for you?

Welcome to Reflections of a Deeper Song.

I’m Cara Lumen, spiritual philosopher and founder of the Deeper Song Community I am a cosmic explorer who consciously travels into the unseen world to serve as a bridge to help us expand our relationship with the spiritual world. I share what I learn and guides those who are ready to the next level so we can sing a deeper song.

Thank you for being a part of this journey.

Today I want to talk about The Cloak of Empowered Service

I’ve been taking shamanic journeys for inner guidance for about four years, and somewhere along the line I began periodically feeling a cloak placed over my shoulders in these journeys – they seemed to signify a new step, a new commitment, a new role.  It was an honor to receive them, an honor to war them, and a responsibility to carry forward.

In each case, I was ready to accept this new role, this new Cloak of Calling. This cloak of Empowered Service.

But my most profound experience of leptin a Cloak of Empowered Service was in real life.  One the years if have connected with younger friends with whom I speak online on a regular basis.  At one point I began to write them collective email mostly as it pertained to their entrepreneurial businesses. It ultimately became apparent we should all meet each other.  I was the only one who knew each of them. I dubbed us the Rainbow Weavers and arranged a group call.

Now, I sort of saw this as a form of accountability, mutual support for our business group but that’s not what it is at all.

When I hung up from the first call I sat here in stunned silence. This was a spiritual group.  We needed each other as inspirational points of light.  And I was being called into service to guide us. – I was being asked to put on the Indego Cloak of Wisdom and become a Spiritual Guide.  I sat here for a long time feeling the depth of the calling, the unspotted turn it had taken, and my willingness to take on that role.

I like the image of cloak because I can feel it settle on my shoulders, I can feel its weight of responsibly and I can accept its calling.  It became a sign of my role and my commitment. My cloak is Indigo Blue with a translucent lining.  It is my willingness to serve as an explorer of the Unseen World with the responsibility of interpreting and teaching what I learn there.

You may experience this inner initiation in a different form but the experience of a cloak, a mantel of position being offered, and accepted is a profound experience of stepping into a new place of service, a new commitment.

Three ares to explore immediately come to mind:

1 – Where do you find your cloak?  Who gives it to you?  Do you have to accept it?

2 –  Is there is a specific Action of Acceptance – a commitment to the calling.

3 – How do you bring you cloak into your place of service and into your spiritual practice and let it guide your choices and your work offering.

I don’t remember the color of the first cloak I was offered in a journey.  I remember that I was surprised.  I knew it was an initiation of some sort, a calling.  As I remember there were flowers around the collar and maybe envy a wreath of flowers around my head.

And I can remember the specific Helping Spirit that gave it to me.  It was definitely an ignition, a calling, an initiation.  And I accepted. Even though I did not know the details.

I have been offered several cloaks in my journey.

A most recent one was at what I see in m journeys as the Indego Portal. It is a portal of wisdom. There is a large library there.  A golden library.

I have a guide as see as Indigo Woman. In one journey she offered me an Indego Cloak. I was aware of being initiated, of being promoted, of being called into a new place of responsibly in the Inner World.  My cloak was and is about inner wisdom, about exploring and interpreting the Unseen World,   And when I accepted it and put it on I was elevated to stand on the right hand of my Indego Woman Guide. When I accepted this cloak of Inner Knowing, this indigo clock of Wisdom I knew I was to teach, write, reach out from there. It was my place of service, the Cloak of Inner Wisdom.  The Cloak of Inner Knowing. The Cloak of Empowered Service.

I use this cloak of knowing as move into the unseen world to encourage and allow the messages to come, the metaphors, the ideas, the internal nudges.

Don’t rush this experience. Your experience may not be a lack at all.  And remember what we find in our journey are metaphors only we are interpret so your metaphor may be something quite different.  But when it is offered, it will guide you into your place of service – to yourself and to the planet and to the Unseen world

It’s an important metaphor. An important initiation.

When you are offered it, when you accept it there is a strong sense of coming home.

Is there is a specific Action of Acceptance – a commitment to the calling? Let this cloak, this metaphor for a sacred calling,  guide your focus,  your choices, and your awareness.

It’s an odd thing about our calling, sometimes we don’t think we are worthy of it.

Over the years I have used various adjectives to describe what I do – I use words like spiritual philosopher, explorer, guide, map maker.  I wove them into my bio descriptions.

But I did not realize until my unexpected calling into the role of a spiritual guide that I realized I had not yet – at least out loud – called myself a Spiritual Philosopher.  That seems too high a goal, too lofty a title.

And yet I took a Comparative Religion class in Collage.  My journey began very early. I became a metaphysic-an in the ’80s and read a great deal of spiritual philosophy.  I became a spiritual counselor in the Center for Spiritual Living in 2000 and I keep exploring – now it is the Unseen World.

We are what we think we are.  We are who we see ourselves as.  I am, indeed, a spiritual philosopher.  I get to own that label.

And that make the cloak settle securely around my shoulders.

Accept what you are called to be, what you are called to do.  Accept the calling of the cloak. When we wear our Cloak of Empowered Serve we step into that role.

When I experienced this initiation in my journey,  it was and is a sense of coming home, of the families, of stepping into a role I knew was mine.  And it was a sense of being elevated above what I had expected from myself or how I had seen myself. It offered a new awareness and commitment.

How do you bring you cloak into your place of service and into your spiritual practice and let it guide your choices and your work offering?

Remember, this cloak is a metaphor.  It is a form of initiation, an invitation, a choice, a commitment.  Bring your metaphorical cloak into your place of service and into your spiritual practice and let it guide your choices and your place of service.

For me, my cloak of Empowered Service is about broadening and deepening my connection with my inner wisdom and the Unseen World  For me it goes to the Indego Portal of Wisdom and it is the Indego Lessons I learn and bring back.  I can feel the indigo cloak come around my shoulders. Its weight, its protection, its support.

Whatever metaphor you find, whatever metaphor you accept, it is about putting on the mantle of service that is yours alone   The mantel of responsibility   The mental of stepping into your place, where you are needed.  Your calling. Your place of Empowered Service.

As you feel the weight of the cloak of responsibility, the cloak of service, the cloak of your calling.  Identify it, accept its call, put on the cloak, and accept your role.  It is a message bout your place of service,  your next step, your responsibility, the sharing of your light!

Each time you experience the clock of Empowered Service, this cloak of commitment to your specific calling, your places of service int the New Consigns, you will feel both supported and empowered.

After that Rainbow Weavers call, I simply sat here at my desk and felt the shift.  I served as a Spiritual Counselor years ago, sot the role is familiar and actually welcomed again.  I felt the shift in my role, the shift into spiritual leadership, spiritual guide.  My role in the here and now had become more clear and I accepted it because it was familiar. You see, I have been in service as an explorer of the Inner World.  I felt the Cloak of Empowered Service wrap around my shoulders in a perfect fit.

Journey to ask for your Cloak of Empowered Service. See what invitation you receive.

If it resonates , accept it

Think on that and see where it leads you.

  • I hope I brought you some new awareness, deeper ways to connect, and insights and encouragement for your next steps.

Who is Walking Beside You on Your Path?

March 4, 2020 By Cara Lumen

Who is Walking Beside You on Your Path?

Adventures in the Unseen World

How aware are you of the people that walk beside you on your chosen path?  They might be someone you see every day.  They may be someone you interact with only occasionally. They may be people whose words you read or heard that offered a meaningful shift in your awareness, a deepening of your understanding.

Those encounters are with fellow travelers who are on a path that is parallel with yours for now and you are to become more aware of them.

The interaction may be brief

There have been two occasions recently in which a phrase in an email has totally shifted my awareness.  One new friend said, “I am sooo grateful for your Presence on my path”. I was touched and then turned to look to see who I was grateful for on my path if I was acknowledging their presence enough.

That one phrase shifted my awareness in a split second.

The contact may be lasting

In a recent energy session I received, I was told that I had a lot of family, but they were different from what one views as one’s immediate family.

Family means support and caring and being there for someone.  When I stop and think about those people who support me who are in many places in the world, with whom I connect on the internet only, I realize that they are my “family.”  My support system is deeper and more far-reaching than I realized.

I am grateful to understand that.

The contact may be in the past

I began my work as a healer in New York City in the 1980’s. Many people contributed to my path there.  Sometimes in the form of one workshop.  Sometimes in the form of a long training.  Sometimes in the form of like-minded friends.

The new friend that invited me to go to the Church of Religion Science in Santa Rosa, California in 1995 changed my life.  I spent the next five years being very involved.  I became a Licensed Spiritual Counselor and was part of the Teaching Faculty.

Many, many wonderful people walked beside me on my path there.

Do you see how this works? I study Taoism and the people who wrote the books I read walk beside me on my path.  I study Shamanism and the teachers who taught the class walked beside me on my path.

Who is walking beside you on your path today?

The more specialized you become in your interests, the more challenging it is to find people to walk beside.  I have a few valued friends that I speak with regularly on the internet. Each one nurtures a different facet of my journey and each one is deeply valued.

Look around and see who is walking beside you on your path.

Who are you walking beside in service?

Sometimes you don’t even know that’s what you are doing is impacting others. I put out one post and one newsletter a week and have no real idea how much of either is read, let alone by whom.  Until someone writes to me. And then my heart is touched and my step bolstered.

People may walk beside you for a short while or for a very long time.  Just be aware of where you are going and who comes alongside to support or guide or nudge you.

Stay true to our path but accept the companions that offer to walk beside you for a while

Whose presence are you grateful for along your path?

Who are you walking beside in service?

Deeper Song Affirmation

I pause to see who is walking beside me on my path.

A Deeper Song Process

  • Begin by noticing who you are supporting on their path.  What do you do for them?  How does that feel?
  • Look closely at those who are walking beside you on your path.  How are they guiding you?  How are they supporting you?
  • I am grateful for your presence on my path.

How Do You Make Your Actions Lasting and Meaningful?

March 13, 2019 By Cara Lumen

How Do You Make Your Actions Lasting and Meaningful?
An Inner-world Exploration

We would all like to feel we have value, that we contribute. How do we make our actions lasting and meaningful? I pose a question to which I have no immediate answer.  I just really like the question.

When a phrase like this asks me to explore it, to understand what it means to me and how to apply it, I usually begin with the dictionary to expand my awareness and interpretation of the meaning of the words. “Lasting” means enduring, permanent. “Meaningful” means significant, consequential.  I want my actions to be all of that.

To make my actions lasting and meaningful, I begin by working to identify my purpose, deepening my own understanding of my unique gifts and what’s calling me from my core. Then I figure out how to express that in my life.

What is calling you?  Find the form

You know what’s calling you.  Put it into descriptive words, a label perhaps. I am a ….

I see myself as a spiritual philosopher, an explorer, a map-maker and messenger. Only lately have I realized that I am still a teacher.

How do you express what’s calling you? How do you see your role?

When you have passion behind what you do, it deepens your impact on everyone you meet.  Your enthusiasm and excitement is as effective as the work you do, the service you perform.  You affect all who come across your path.

My initial actions can be very subtle. I can be sitting here doing whatever, and suddenly a thought comes barreling into my awareness and I’m deeply called to explore the meaning behind that idea.

I want to understand the concept and if it resonates deeply, I try to figure out ways to add it to my life. And I need and want to share what I discover.

The initial call is incredibly powerful to me.  The need/desire/calling to figure out is imperative.  And writing it in a form to share with others not only helps me complete my inquiring process, but offers my insights to others as well.

The form of your offering begins with what’s calling you.

Action – Take your calling to the world

Our actions create our life experience. What we think, say, do, and believe are reflected back to us in our lives.  We are to learn to choose actions that are in alignment with our highest good.

Our actions impact what we receive. What we put out, we get back.  Anger brings back more anger.  Love brings back more love. We get to choose what we receive by being conscious of the energy we put out.

Our actions also impact what others receive and absorb from us. Just as we are affected by the vibrations we put out, so are those around us affected by the level of vibration we emanate.  Do you have an idea of how your presence is perceived by others?  This is not about pleasing others, it’s about being aware of how you walk in the world. How your mere presence affects others.

The choices and actions we take are vital.  How we conduct ourselves – the words we use, how we interact with others. Just the simple act of being present is a meaningful action that has deep impact.

The focus of our actions affects our impact.  What we choose to do with our lives, in our lives, leads us on a path of our own making.  It’s not about what we achieve, it’s about how we go about our lives – our attitude, our consideration, our compassion.

The form our work takes is revealing.  We may be a leader, a team player, an individual stand-out or a steady support person.  That’s the form our action takes.  How we take that action is key not just to our physical-plane success but to our inner, spiritual development as well.

Action is in our deeds, our behavior, or conduct and our endeavors. It is also in our thoughts, beliefs, and expectations.

What is a “meaningful” action?

What is meaningful to you includes experiences that feel significant, impactful, important, relevant, important, and worthwhile.

Spend some time considering what is meaningful to you. Begin there. That will dictate your calling, your actions, your focus, and your development.

We are talking about how to make your actions meaningful and lasting. But to whom? The world, others, your family?  Who do you want to impact?  Who do you want to see your existence as meaningful?  Who do you want to reach?

You will know about some of your impact.  Much of it, you will not.  A simple smile may be enough to have a meaningful and lasting impact on a person who needs it at that very moment.

A less tangible impact may be something someone said to you a long time ago that you have based a lot of your life upon.  That could be a parent, a teacher, or a friend who encouraged you and that led you to steps to build on that encouragement. Words of encouragement are very impactful.

We may not have to look very far afield to understand the many ways our actions, both large and small, can be meaningful and lasting.

We want our work to be lasting

Lasting means “abide or able to endure over a long period of time.” It has a deep vibration, a profound effect.

To be lasting means that the action you took created change.  It created change in someone’s outlook. It created change in someone’s understanding.  It created change in what someone thought was possible or what they thought they deserved.  It changed them.  It changed what they thought, or perceived or considered or chose.

A very simple action or thought can make a lasting change.

“Lasting” means a change at the core

This phrase “make your actions lasting and meaningful”  came from something I read.  I don’t even remember what.  But look where it’s taking us.  I feel this exploration shift me as I compose this piece. It has made me stop and think and consider and wonder and question and … That’s a lot of impact for a few words.

And whoever wrote them will never know the adventure those few words are taking us upon.

You won’t necessarily know who and how you affect others.

“Lasting” means inner work

Just as we don’t know who our actions and words will impact, we don’t know how.

But lasting change begins within.

My work is to identify ideas and concepts that lead me into greater clarity and incorporate them as an actual practice in my life.

That purpose will impact what I choose to write in my posts and newsletter to share with others.

That purpose will impact how I interact with the people close to me and the people not so close to me.

That choice is certainly going to impact my spiritual practice.  When I start holding up each action I take to the measuring stick of “meaningful and impactful”, I will leave a pile of ideas on the floor and choose the ones that are – yes – meaningful and impactful to both me and those I serve.

Choice and your measuring stick

I rely very heavily on my inner voice. It hollered at me to write down that phrase.  It immediately demanded that I write the first draft to begin to figure out what it meant to me.  It was clearly important to my inner self that I both understand this concept and figure out how to absorb it into my life.  And as I live with this idea of wanting my actions to be meaningful and lasting, I have set up a new measuring stick to help me select the next steps I take.

Sometimes we don’t know what will be meaningful and impactful

A long time ago, I remember walking across Central Park in New York City with a friend who said, “We are rocks.  People depend on us.”  I was a bit startled at the idea, but I recognized myself in her statement. I asked, “Where do rocks get help?” “From other rocks,” was her reply.

That was 45 years ago.  And that idea, that image has profoundly affected my life and how I live it.

We simply do not know and may never know, how we help to change the lives of others.

So besides raising our own vibrations, expanding our spiritual exploration and consciously trying to serve others, we have to simply be true to ourselves. The more we deepen our own spiritual awareness, the stronger our light becomes and the more attractive and vital and meaningful our light presence becomes to others.

We may never know

I can have an intention to have my choices be meaningful and lasting but I’m not always going to know if they are. But I absorb this idea and look for ways to raise my own vibration, to be of greater service in the world, and I hope, I intend, that what I offer, what I provide, will be both meaningful and impactful when it moves out into the world.

Deeper Song Affirmation

I choose to make my actions lasting and meaningful.

Deeper Song Process

  • List what you think makes your life and work meaningful.  To you. To others.
  • Of those things you have listed, what do you think may have the most lasting impact?  To whom?  Why?
  • Do you see any changes you would like to make?
  • Do that.

Deeper Song Affirmation
My life is meaningful and impactful.

Can You Let Your Life Unfold?

January 16, 2019 By Cara Lumen

Can You Let Your Life Unfold?
An Inner-world Exploration

Periodically during the year, we make grand plans.  Sometimes it’s because there’s a new year beginning, sometimes it’s a new quarter, or a new month or even just one week at a time.

The most productive, aligned way to manage your life is to simply to let it unfold.  See what shows up, check it out in the moment and decide if this is the time to explore and develop that idea.

Otherwise we run the risk of being overwhelmed.

It helps to follow the seasons

There’s an unfolding flow in nature that we would do well to align ourselves with.

Winter: Contemplate and explore the possibilities in the seed catalog. Close what to plant.

Choose only the things you really want to do and the things you realistically can accomplish. How many plants can you grow in your personal garden of self?

I’m exploring new ideas and they’re currently in sort of a book format because that’s how I’m organizing my own learning process.  However, the idea of working on a book while doing all this inner exploration/discovery work is overwhelming.

So, since it’s winter, I’ll contemplate the choices and experiences before me and go exploring to better understand what I’m being called to do. I place my order from the idea seed catalogue. That’s all I do – choose my priorities.

I may have different criteria for my choices – income, most effective use of time, greatest impact, easiest to do. A full seed catalog can be tempting.  Do a reality check before you place your order.

Spring: Choose how many seeds you will plant based on what you can realistically care for, want to harvest and how much is needed.

After choosing what we want to plant, we have to do a reality check on how much we can physically and emotionally care for. How big is the garden plot (your available time). We have to prepare the ground. What skills and equipment or help do you need to produce this crop? Then you have to decide how much to plant based on how much you can care for and harvest and, better yet, use.

These are the decisions of spring.  How much to plant.  Where to plant. And make certain not to overprint or underplant. Give careful thought to what you actually need to produce.

I seem to have a second book that’s much closer to completion than this one I am creating from my new work.  Hmmm.  Can I harvest two crops? Oh yes, and there’s a niggle that I might record some guided meditations. Be careful here that you don’t choose too much to plant because there’s a lot of work to be done in the cultivation and care and bringing to harvest of whatever you choose.

Summer: Do the work

This is the part I love – the growth and development of an idea.  The unfolding of a book. It’s a time for deep creativity and introspection as I pull together all I have learned in a form that others can understand. I put what I’ve been learning into a form I can share that will help others move along a similar path.

What will be required of you to tend the crops you have chosen to plant? Can you bring the crop safely to harvest?

Fall – Harvest what you sowed

I dread this part.  We are talking technical stuff.  Not hard, I just don’t do it very often.  Get the book out the door stuff.   But if that’s all I do for the fall – complete and publish – that doesn’t feel so daunting.

See how working in seasons makes the task less daunting?

There’s another step here I tend to not do well – let others know what I’ve created.  So perhaps I can devise practical and realistic ways to do that.

If you found a stumbling block in your projected harvest, what solutions can you explore and what choices can you make earlier in the year to help you move through this challenge?

Completion time is made for giving gratitude for the gifts you have harvested and been encouraged to give.

Fall is also the time to notice what your work produces. What is popular and what is not?  What did you run out of?  It’s time to evaluate what action has called to you the most. Where did you receive the most satisfaction? What was the easiest part to do?  Then set those ideas aside to be contemplated in the planning that takes place in the winter cycle.

Do your inner work

Before you begin a new cycle, do your inner work.  What new skills did you develop? What do you want to do more of? Less of? What are the needs of the people you serve? How has the world changed? What is needed that you could provide?

What has changed in you and how will you honor that?

Then it’s time to begin the cycle again.

Deeper Song Process:

  • Write down what you would like to accomplish in the next year, quarter, month, whatever you choose.
  • Put a mark by the one accomplishment that would be the easiest to do.
  • Put a different mark by the one that would make your heart sing.
  • Use a different mark to identify the action that would bring in  the most income, or whatever value you are working to achieve (personal growth, relationships, etc)
  • Choose one project that you marketed and apply the seasonal steps to it.
  • Winter – Contemplate the future possibilities. Order seeds.
  • Spring – Plant what you can care for and harvest.
  • Summer – Produce.  Do the work. Get help if you need to.
  • Fall – Take your harvest to market and see how it’s received.
  • Repeat each season.
