Living in Cycles
Living Our Deeper Song
The Creative in me honors the Creative in you!
We live in cycles both large and small. From the cycle of birth to death to the cycle of morning to night, our lives are guided and governed by cycles. When you become aware of where you are in a cycle, it strengthens your ability to utilize the power of that particular point in the cycle. For instance, if it’s a rest cycle it’s a good idea to rest. If it’s a height-of-a-day-get-it-done cycle – get busy. You know how hard it is to stay awake when it’s time to go to bed to sleep. You know how hard it is to eat when you’re not hungry. Those are natural cycles guiding you and your body and your life into a pattern of wholeness. When you learn to follow the cycles of the universe and be guided by them, life moves smoothly forward.
Learn from the cycles of nature. There’s a time to plant, there’s a time to harvest, there is the time for withdrawal and regeneration. There are big cycles and little cycles that repeat that same pattern. Know where you are in the cycle and honor it. If your body says rest, then rest. If your body says let’s get it done, then get to work. The more you pay attention to the natural cycles, the more you will be able to put their natural power behind what you do. Be aware. Be observant and utilize the flow of the cycles to get things done.
DEEPER SONG AFFIRMATION
I am aware of the cycles of my day, of the moments and of my life.
DEEPER SONG PROCESS
- An easy place to begin noticing cycles is with your sleep cycle. Are you honoring it or are you forcing yourself to move beyond it?
- Notice your eating cycle. Are you hungry or is this just something to do at this moment?
- Examine your spiritual cycle and make it stronger.
- The more aware you become, the easier it is to utilize the stage and phase of each cycle to be more productive.
Know Your Value
Because we go around just doing our thing, we don’t often realize what impact we have. We don’t realize how our words and actions serve as examples to others of things that they might want to exemplify or explore. Our very existence has value, not only in how we live our lives, but in the example we give to others about the possibility of their lives.
Sometimes I need tangible proof like the number of people on my mailing list or the number of followers on Facebook but I shouldn’t have to do that. I should simply know that my energy, my choices, my deeds have an impact in the world. It goes places I have no idea that it goes. And touches lives and changes thinking and makes a difference. Trust the length and depth and breadth of your mere existence and live a conscious, thoughtful, inclusive life. You have great value. Know that.
You Have the Power to Change
Whatever the level – spiritual, physical emotional, mental – you have the power to change. You have the power to change your belief of what is possible. You have the power to change your belief in what you deserve. As I work with Qigong my Yi (mind) moves the Qi (energy) and interesting things are happening. That makes me know that I have the power to change even on the most subtle levels.
First you have to want to change. Then you have to be willing to change. And that probably means letting go of something – a habit, a belief, an expectation. Then you simply make room for the universe to bring in what you need at this point in time. It may not be what you expect. It may not be what you exactly want. But if you say, “Universe, give me what I need right now”, it will. You just need to recognize it and put it to work. You have the power to change everything in your life. Keep what you want and change the rest.
Things You Can’t Control
There is a helplessness that steps in as we watch the environment in trouble and humans being cruel to other humans. Do we just sit here and watch? Or do we do something? Even when I do something it seems small in comparison with what is needed. So what do I do when things seem to be happening that I can’t control?
We move back to a broader knowledge that we are engaged in an ongoing relationship with a universe that responds to our thoughts and actions.
So I do as much as I can on the physical plane both with intention and actual steps. Then I have to trust the universe. I have to let go, keep the strong intentions going, and let the universe unfold. That doesn’t mean things will turn out the way we want them to. It means they will simply turn out the way the universe means for them to – for the highest good for all.
Will you let go of the things that you can’t control and trust the universe to manifest what we need as a collective?
What are Your Priorities?
We make choices at every turn in our life. Some of the choices are wise and some not so wise. What are your priorities when you make a choice? Is it related to your work? Is it related to your relationships? Is it related to your health? Is it related to your spiritual practice? Just notice. Notice if one area is crowding out another. Notice if one area needs more attention than you’ve been giving it.
I want to increase my physical movement and my spiritual practice. Expanding my Qigong practice is a way to do both. You could combine exercise with walking in nature. If you really want to, you can combine exercise with cleaning your house! Just notice how much time you’re spending on any particular area of your life and see if that’s the balance you really want to cultivate. What do you need to do more of? What do you need to do less of? What are your priorities for moving forward?
===DEEPEN YOUR SPIRITUAL PRACTICE===
Rethink Your Altar
It’s a good idea to periodically rethink the sacred things you keep around you. That may mean your desk, it may near your altar. But sometimes what we have around us loses meaning simply because they are just there.
I have two awesome new clay art pieces made by my friend Dr. Martha Lacy – a clay altar bowl that I designed and she executed for me and a rattle of her design but my decorative choices. They came this week. And I needed to totally rethink my altar or make a new one. I moved a bamboo table to be the altar in my meditation corner.
I took everything off and started over. There’s new meaning. There’s a new color scheme. And of course I’m making up songs to go with my altar bowl and my rattle.
Rethink your meditation space and your meditation practice on a regular basis. Seasonally is a possible reminder time. Make sure the focus is what you want for this point in your life. Make sure that the tools you are using are the ones that resonate the most with you. Take everything off your altar and put back only what calls to you for this particular moment, this phase of your life. See what a change that makes in your meditation practice.
An altar alters your perception.
===HOW TO BE A STRONG CONTRIBUTING MEMBER OF THE DIVERSE CIRCLE OF LIGHT BEINGS===
Live and Let Live
There is a conceit in thinking that it should be your way or the highway. That does not allow for diversity. It does not allow for different spiritual paths. It does not allow for different belief systems. And it certainly does not allow for individual choices based on who you are and what you believe and need.
As I watch Republicans trying to have it their way or nothing, there is no desire to build community. There’s only a desire to build rulers. I don’t think you can look at a single spiritual practice in the entire world that teaches that. All the spiritual practices I have studied asks us to be thoughtful and considerate and inclusive of those around us – which means we help them. We honor their belief systems. We honor their needs. And nowhere is it written that any of us know the exact path for ourselves let alone for anyone else. Make certain you are not trying to enforce your beliefs on others. That’s not the way our world should work. We should have space for each of us to follow our own insights and inclinations. At the core is do no harm.
Years ago George Walker Bush gave a speech in which he said that he believes that marriage should be only between a Christian man and a woman. I didn’t even get to the man and woman part because I was so stuck on the feeling of being persecuted if I were not Christian, which I’m not. I am a metaphysician. Which is a whole lot more inclusive of diversified beliefs than Christianity. Based on how I felt at his words I actually wrote a post with the title “What If You Feel Persecuted?” and it was republished in a gay magazine. But that was the first time I have felt prejudice to be followed by persecution. I value my spiritual life deeply as I’m sure you do yours. I don’t talk about it with anyone in my senior community here in the Midwest because there are not many people here who have a clue what metaphysicians believe or think about or consider. I am sure that someone could easily tell me I was wrong because my belief systems, including vegetarianism, may be a little off the center part.
Are you making space in your life and your belief system for the beliefs and needs of everyone? Are you content to live in your part of the world, in your corner if you will, and live the best you know how and leave others to do the same?
Spiritual choices are personal. They evolve as we grow. They change as we explore. Look closely at your level of intolerance and judgment toward those who do not share your beliefs. And for everyone’s sake expand your inclusiveness.
===OUR EVOLVING FUTURE===
The Extent Of Your Reach
My fully vaccinated and boosted daughter has Covid. She’s not terribly sick but she caught it at a conference in Florida which means that someone someplace decided not to get vaccinated and didn’t care what happened and how far-reaching that choice was. Now my son-in-law who went with her is in the hospital. I’m ticked.
I watch people trying to have it their way without any regard for their impact on others. There is an unbelievable conceit that they are right. It’s very self-focused.
Everyone has free choice. Well, everyone should have free choice. But our choice includes weighing the repercussions. The way to change your mind is through logic and reason and education and also admitting you might be wrong, that your choice is not everyone’s choice. Think of the far-reaching impact of your choice.
What makes a person think their way is the right way for everyone? Because it’s not. The whole point of being an individual is to be an individual.
As long as I’m spouting off here, I realize that the way to make change is by reasonable conversations and expanded and inclusive education. So the people who want to put other people in jail for their choices of what they want to do with their body could try another tack. They could have a conversation, they could listen to the other person and try to put themselves in that person’s position. We don’t get to choose for other people. We don’t get to choose what they think or what they do. But we can have a conversation and exchange each other’s viewpoint and try to understand it.
Then chose for yourself. Not others.
May we hear and heed the call of the Divine Feminine.
May we expand our hearts and our expectations.
May we walk the Path of Light with a sure foot.
May we keep our gaze on the summit.
May we take this journey with a full heart.
I entwine my light with yours and we move forward to guide the way.

A Shift In Focus
Even a slight shift in focus will take you in an entirely new direction. Stop where you are and look around you in a 360° circle. What are you neglecting? What do you want more of? Or could use less of? I have to move my body more. “Use it or lose it” as the saying goes. So I have to get creative. Do more standing Qigong. Walk in the halls more. I don’t go outside much but maybe I will or can or should. Even throwing in a few Qigong moves every time I stand up to move to a different position would be adding to the overall practice of more physical movement. You don’t have to rearrange your whole schedule, but you probably should make some adjustments in time spent doing the different aspects of your life. What will you add to your life and how and when will you add it?

Change is Needed
Change is needed, it’s up to me.
Change is needed, it’s up to me. What do I choose? How do I choose it? When do I choose it?
Change is needed, it’s up to me. What do I choose? How do I choose it? When do I choose it? What do I need right now in my life? I choose that.
