Expand Your Vision

Living Our Deeper Song

Ashe
(“Ah-Shay”)
 The Creative in me honors the Creative in you!

If we create our world by using our imagination, we have some serious work to do. I’m not exactly sure where to start.

Before I can envision for the planet, I have to vision from my own small world, my own sphere of influence, my own actions and choices. Begin with yourself and your expression in life to make the changes you hope to see reflected in the world.

I have a great start on the kind of people I want to be with because of the kind and caring staff here at Evergreen long-term care. I can actually use them as a place to begin my vision for this New World. I envision a world full of kind, caring, smart, people who are very deeply in service to others. So much will change in the world if all of us are in service to each other.

I envision our planet as a place where all of the products we use are very environmentally friendly and nothing, absolutely nothing gets dumped on Mother Earth to hurt or harm or destroy her. That means that a lot of human hearts and minds have to change.

So I have envisioned caring people caring for our the planet. What about me? What about my vision for myself?

First of all, I’m 90 so I can vision for 10 or so years ahead but I won’t put a time frame on it. How do I need to change? How might I be a service? What do I need to do to make all that happen?

How do I need to change? I watch meaningful and impactful interactions with kind, caring people in service here and I seek to copy them even in the few months I have been here. And I know that following their example is going to make a huge difference as I move forward.  So choosing to be around the right people is a primary place to start defining your place of service -real life, aware, thoughtful, kind people. Are they living successful lives with some degree of calm certainty? How are they doing that? Are the activities you choose to do nurturing you and expanding your awareness and supporting your work in the world? That’s a lot to get from a day’s worth of living.

How might I be a service? You can go deeper into your place of service at any age. Look around at how you are helping people right now. It may be that your support of others is simply through positive thinking and ever-deepening contribution to others.

What do I need to do to make all that happen?

If I spend contemplative time visualizing peace everywhere on the planet, I can work with communities of people or herds of animals or individuals.

I get to imagine what clear, sparkly water looks like and feels like and that it is everywhere. I get to envision forests growing safely without the destruction of a fire. I’ve been a vegetarian for 50 years so I’m not a part of that process of killing animals for food.

I will envision my life as projecting positive, inclusive energy full of health and balance.

Each of us has a place of expression. My physical plane seeks some answers through self-healing. I have my eyesight to work on and not worry about.

Where do you need to change? What do you need to change?

Be creative in how you expand your vision and make it become a reality.

DEEPER SONG AFFIRMATION

Expand your vision of what you see for yourself. and raise your expectation of what is possible.

DEEPER SONG PROCESS

  • How do you envision the survival of the planet? Become more aware of what is happening and create your own very strong spiritual practice focused at least in part on the survival of our planet.

===INNER WORK===

Deepen Your Inner Awareness

Add More Elements To You Spiritual Practice

I am drumming more in my spiritual practice since my flute playing is less than stellar with my arthritic fingers. I use several of my rattles to bless my work and send energy to heal my body. I make up songs to heal my eyes.

I like to do my spiritual practice as the sun rises and sets.  I have a ceremony before I sleep to focus on releasing and restoration. I could do better about offering gratitude for my meals. I will make up a song of focus for my computer and the ideas it helps me express.

I haven’t done this yet but I will start thanking my two plants for their wholing energy when I water them.

How will you expand your spiritual practice?

Water Meditation

 I live in the middle of the country in Kansas and have no real way to do a water meditation in person so I will have to find a recording that speaks to that particular form. Sit quietly and listen to the innate rhythm and flow of the tides as the water and the waves help us find a soft, ongoing, nurturing sound. Find a water sound that you like and begin to meditate with it and see what journeys it takes you on.

===SELF-HEALING===

Take Responsibility for Healing Yourself

Do The Work

As I come to the end of my eighth Qigong class, I realize that I am not doing the work.  Part of it is that I can’t stand up very well – yet. But the other part is that I am not doing the work.  I’m not practicing.

Where are you falling behind simply because you are not practicing or have not added it to your daily routine? Rearrange your day until you find the right sequence.

Your Body’s Response to Fear

I’m experiencing a shortness of breath and my PT facilitator Maggie said she noticed it when my hip replacement surgery was scheduled. Hummm.  I have never felt less in control of my own destiny as I do now when I have to depend on so many others to get me ready and get me to the hospital and back again. I have been an independent woman the majority of my life and I don’t like how it feels to have that not be within my capacity anymore.  I need to make some creative adjustments both in the form of self-empowerment and beliefs. I’m not sure where to begin but recognizing the need is a good place to begin my exploration.

Self-Care

I am so well cared for here at Evergreen, things I can no longer do for myself are done for me but I have to make certain I do my part – exercise that only I can provide for my body, the food choices that only I can make, the rest that only I can give – these are still totally my responsibility.  Don’t give up your role in caring for the well-being of your body. It is your temple for you to live in.  Care for it wisely.

===OUTER  WORK===

Explore New Potential and Possibilities

Try New Things

What do you want to do in the coming year that you’ve never done before? It may range from trying a new food to going rock climbing.  It’s good to experiment. It’s good to try new things.

I’ve recently begun to read Joe Dispenza’s book Becoming Supernatural and it is going to change my life. It is taking me in a direction I never dreamed possible.  I’ve had the book for one year but now is when I need it.

I have a role to play here at Evergreen and that is unfolding.  I am eager to participate more.

What new things do you want to explore? What new paths will you go down?  Keep trying new things, it makes life an adventure.

Explore Other Cultures

There is a fairly diverse population among the staff here at Evergreen. Two people have come over from Africa in their teens one of them worked her way through college as a long-distance runner. I have been exposed to more diversity in population and cultures in the last three months since I have been here than I have in my entire 90-year life. I’m loving it.

Where do you go to expose yourself to diversity?  As a young girl I remember having dinner at a neighbor of my grandparents and we ate squirrel. Only in later years did I realize that was what they could afford to eat.

In New York City I had a Jewish friend invite several of us for Passover where she explained the ceremony. But other than eating at restaurants that serve culturally specific food I have not done much exploring and have had no chance to get to know people from other cultures. How will you broaden your world view today?

What Do You Miss Doing?

I used to walk all over New York City, now I use a walker. I used to garden, now I have two philodendron I need help watering. Music has always been in my life. With my arthritic fingers making my native flute playing a bit odd, I have turned to my drums and my voice to add music to my spiritual practice. But I keep the elements I love in my life in some form.

We let slide all manner of favorite nurturing things in order to make our living or raise our children or…

Get that old band instrument out of the closet and play it again. Find time to do things that you used to love to do. Whatever you miss doing, find time to do it again now.

One of the big lessons I learned about moving into a smaller place is to start with an empty space the size of the space you are moving to and put in it only what you really want to keep around you. The rest you leave behind. Sometimes that is hard to do but necessary.

We can apply that principle to the agenda you choose for yourself for the coming year. If you were to begin again with a clean slate, what top three things would you put on it?

I would put exploring and writing about what I learn in order to clarify it for myself and others. Oddly my spirit practice is third on my list but when I was downsizing, it was my spiritual items that I had to cut down on the most.

I realize that there are two vital elements to my life – my spiritual practice and my writing which are deeply entwined with leaning. That’s good to know.

Make a list of what is important for you and prioritize them. Are you doing what you really want to do? How do you need to change to make room for your priorities? Start with a clean slate not a full slate and consciously write what you want in your life.

Love Your Work

Life is too short to not do work you love. We spend a huge portion of our time at work. We deserve to have it be something we love to do.

It is very important that you really like your job because that energy shows through in the smallest thing you do.

Do you need a new job? Look around for what that might be.  Are you even in the right field?

Ask for an information interview from some in a field you are interested in.  I did that in New York City – asked for an introduction to film distribution. The sole proprietor had a great time telling me about the work he loved and I learned that it was not a field for me. Network to find what interests you and what skills and talents are required to be successful at it.

Don’t settle, keep doing only work you love.

===DEEPEN YOUR SPIRITUAL PRACTICE===

Self-Healing Spiritual Practice and Deepening Awareness of Our Cosmic Oneness

Create a Nightly Ritual

There are several steps to creating a night ritual.  One is to offer gratitude for what has unfolded during the day. When you reflect back over the events that unfolded, you can see the gifts and the lessons and the insights it brought. Contemplate the new possibilities they suggest.

I always set up protection for the night. Mine is in the form of a song and I also experience myself being tucked into a transformative sphere which not only protects but transforms any negative energy I might emit or encounter during the night.

And of course I clear that sphere once I’m awake in the morning and set it up as protection for the new day.

I do refresh the protective sphere in my room each morning because there is a lot of traffic in an out during the day.

I am now up early enough to watch the sun rise and play my drum and sing greeting songs to the directions and offer my services. How will you expand the rituals you use for opening and closing your day?

I Got My Drums Back!

I had given away a drum that I made 40 years ago two times – It just came back to me which is perfect. I didn’t know I get back my big blue djembe drum which is a pretty funny thing to own in a nursing home. They have already suggested drumming circles but I’ve never even been to one. Since my arthritic fingers are making my flute playing less than delightful, I can certainly improve my drum playing. The drum that I like the best is the frame drum. It has no ties in back. A long time ago women were not allowed to have drums so they use their grain sieves as drums which is why it’s different than other ones. You use your thumb to hold the frame. I can play it softly and look out the window at the world. I have six drums in a collection as a resident of a long-term care facility.  But the world wanted me to have a way to celebrate life and I have it.

The Guest House

This being human is a guest house.

Every morning a new arrival.

A joy, a depression, a meanness,

some momentary awareness comes

as an unexpected visitor.

Welcome and entertain them all!

Even if they are a crowd of sorrows,

who violently sweep your house

empty of its furniture,

still, treat each guest honorably.

He may be clearing you out

for some new delight.

The dark thought, the shame, the malice.

Meet them at the door laughing and invite them in.

Be grateful for whatever comes.

Because each has been sent

as a guide from beyond.

===HOW TO BE A STRONG CONTRIBUTING MEMBER OF THE CIRCLE OF LIGHT BEARERS===

Expand Your Role in the Rapidly Evolving Universe

Build Your Leadership Skills

As I watch the mess the US Republicans are making, I once again see a self-focused group who are only interested in power.

I understand when people are self-focused because of survival but I do not understand the need for power. It is an ego driven need and if I were guessing I’d say part of it was a need to bolster their ego because of feelings of insecurity. And I guess I also have to leave room for it to be part of a “mean streak.”

Examine your willingness to compromise. If you are in a leadership position – in work or in your family – do you listen to those you lead? Do you encourage them to contribute? Do you help expand the ideas they bring to the table? Do you take time to explain the strengths and weaknesses so everyone in the group can learn?

Strong leaders help build other strong leaders by encouragement and mentoring. How are your leadership skills?

===BROADEN YOUR HORIZON – EXPAND YOUR VIEW===

Raise Your Sights and Your Expectations

Expand Your View Of World Community

I have not been around this diverse a population since I walked the streets of New York City and even there, nationalities had a tendency to congregate in their own neighborhoods. But here at Evergreen I have met several people who came from Africa in their teens and a nurse/executive who says she is the only Asian, named Nancy. One Med Aid plays the viola. Another put herself through college doing cross-country running. Our chef started out in finance and after ten day was told to go find another field.  His brother owned a restaurant so he found his calling.

There are so many stories from so many cultural backgrounds. I have expanded my view and experience of our world community.

What happens when we do that? We begin to see the lives of others from a more inclusive viewpoint.  We learn of the richness of many cultural heritages and we experience ourselves as members of the planet rather than of a specific country or race or religion. And once we raise our gaze and become focused on the survival of our planet home, we unite in caring for it.

What changes for you when you experience yourself as a citizen of the planet? How does your responsibility change?  Get to work on that.

===CARA’S CORNER===

 I Had Surgery Last Week

I’m not going to write a blow by blow but I am sitting here at my computer at 4AM having just taken my third anti-bacterial soap shower and I am dressed and ready to go in an hour for my hip replacement. It is 5 AM and I am the first surgery patient.

I have sent energy ahead as have a few of my reiki friends, to the space, to the doctor and staff who help him and for my body’s response to this adjustment as well. And I get to trust.  An aide will come get me in an hour. She will be given a packet of information by the nurse to convey to the hospital staff. A van will come pick me up and load me and my wheelchair “Pearl” into the back. It is 33 degrees so I had a warm poncho I got in Mexico years ago and lap robe. I will spend overnight in the hospital tonight.

I have to trust a lot of people to do their jobs really well. And they will.

Later: I stayed in the hospital six days.  My big discovery was that I’m going to sleep in a recliner from here on. They had one waiting for me at Evergreen.  So I am tucked in, sitting in my wheelchair at my desk back at my computer again. The hip surgery went fine – it was just other things like my oxygen levels that kept me in the hospital for a while. And I can stand up straighter than I ever have. All is well in my world. Cara

The Year Ahead

There is fog on the road ahead. I do not know what it will reveal.

There is fog on the road ahead. I do not know what it will reveal. There may be a choice to make and what I choose will determine my destination. There may be a detour I take to go exploring. But I will keep going.

The is fog on the road ahead. I do not know what it will reveal. There may be a choice to make and what I choose will determine my destination. There may be a detour I take to go exploring. But I will keep going. I am an explorer and I am an adventurer. Bring it on!

Where Your Attention Goes Your Energy Goes

Where Your Attention Goes Your Energy Goes

Living Our Deeper Song

Ashe
(“Ah-Shay”)
 The Creative in me honors the Creative in you!

It’s really so easy – where your attention goes your energy goes. What are you paying attention to?

When I was getting ready to move to Evergreen long-term care, I spent a fair amount of energy worrying – worrying about whether I would like it, whether I would get the space that I wanted that had enough room.

First of all, you have to notice that you are worrying. What do you spend your day focusing on? Do you focus on the positive things that are happening? Or do you focus on the scary things you think might not work out so well? That’s the point at which you change your focus and thus change your life experience. It’s as simple as turning your head and redirecting your gaze.

But first we have to notice where we are looking and then decide where we get to shift our gaze.

Our energy follows our attention. So, if I spend my time worrying, that’s where my energy goes but if I turn the focus on the positive steps I’m taking, that changes where my energy goes. We have great control over what we focus on in every moment of the day. Notice where your mind is leading you.  Begin to make more positive choices.

DEEPER SONG AFFIRMATION

DEEPER SONG PROCESS

  • Notice where your attention is going during the day. If it is less than positive, shift your gaze.

===INNER WORK===

Deepen Your Inner Awareness

Energy Sweeping

I’ve added a new step to my morning routine. It is energy sweeping and it is a time when I release the night and any energy that I might have released during sleep. I sweep my room to clear the dreams. And I turn to look out the window to welcome in the energy of the fresh new day. It is at the time that I welcome the day with a ceremony that I have created for myself.

A sweeping ceremony each morning clears the ground for the new day. You have a whole new open space in which you can place anything you wish. You might offer gratitude for the clarifying dreams of the night and for the potential of the day to come.

As we clear the energy in our space, we clear our own energy systems and create a welcoming place for the unfolding day.

Sweeping affects every level – physical, spiritual, emotional and mental. Sometimes sweeping is used to start a ceremony. Are you sleeping in a place you want to clear out?  Create a sweeping ceremony and make room for the new.

You can use a feather to sweep your area. You can use a wave of your hand.  You can use a song or drumming. Clear the space and set the intention for a new day. Use this time to release anything that needs to be released from the night. That same time is used to clear the way for the new day to unfold in all its potential. What kind of sweeping ceremony will you create to prepare the way for a glorious new day?

Take Another Look

Sometimes when opportunity presents itself, we are simply not ready. That means that at a later date we might want to give that opportunity a second look to see if we have changed, to see if the opportunity has changed. Perhaps it is a better fit now. Perhaps there is a new version of it that has presented itself.

It might be a good idea to visit some old stuck places to see if it’s possible to unstick yourself. To move forward. To approach it from a different viewpoint so the things that you rejected at one point in your life may present a new and interesting possibility in the present moment.

What decisions in your life do you need to re-examine? What opportunities might be more in line with where you are right now? Take your time and take another look. See what has changed and what new door has opened.

===SELF-HEALING===

Take Responsibility for Healing Yourself

Cultivate Inner Peace

Begin each day with a deliberate cultivation of inner peace. Look out the window at nature and be at one with its gradual and steady unfolding. Noticed the subtle shapeshifting clouds and add that rhythm to your life. Set an intention for your day of inner peace and deepening awareness. Throughout your day pause before you begin each task to center and ground yourself so that you can move forward in deep serenity. Consciously cultivate inner peace and watch how your day offers you new awareness and opportunities.

===OUTER  WORK===

Explore New Potential and Possibilities

How to Alter Your Feelings

Our experiences are caused by our thoughts. So if you change your thoughts you change your life experience.

Begin with the feeling. If you were feeling depressed, identify the reasons for that feeling and then examine it more closely. Look for the mistaken belief. Look for any notion that needs to be clarified or released.

When you look behind these feelings you will find that your mind is involved. Sometimes our minds make stuff up and we have to get clear about what is so and what is not.

Sometimes changing our feelings is as easy as changing our gaze. Focus on what is working instead of focusing on what is not working and on what you get to do as opposed to what you don’t get to do. Shifting your gaze is a very powerful way to change your feelings and your experience.

Change your actions. If you keep on doing what you have been doing, you will keep on getting what you have been getting.

Sometimes it only takes a slight course correction to produce a different outcome. Other times you really need to start from scratch. What method will you use to alter your feelings today?

Are You Doing Your Best Work?

I haven’t given this much thought, but I don’t know if I’m always doing my best work. I do what I do with enthusiasm. I do what I do with passion. But I’m not one for perfectionism. I’m too eager to find the core lesson, the core message, and build on that.

So what is my “best work.” Is it this curiosity and enthusiasm and passion with which I do almost everything? Or am I to be more detailed and careful, which is not in my nature at all. I think my curiosity and enthusiasm count for a lot. “Best work” is not about perfection itself, it is about your heart and the passion and commitment and love that you put into whatever you do, however well you do it. Your best work comes from a place within. Keep doing that.

Share Your Appreciation

What if today you to offer your gratitude to at least three people? Thank them for who they are, or what they do, or how they show up in the world.  In that group of three, thank one person you know well, one person you know casually, and one person that you randomly come across during the day. Make that trifecta of gratitude every day. Thank three people for who they are or what they do or how they show in the world and spread a little joy and appreciation in the world.

Do With Less

Because everything is being provided to me by Medicare at Evergreen, I am left with a monthly allowance of $62. I’ve been an impulsive spender all my life but I have very little room to do that anymore and I also have everything I need right now, so I get to examine why I buy things and see what unfulfilled need or impulse makes me buy things. I do have my priorities which is funding my web page. They are very generous at Christmas here at Evergreen so I can keep up with my clothes. I have never been good with money but I guess I’m going to start now.

How are your spending habits and why do you buy things?

Leave A Clear Path

I’m going to begin to do my podcast again and I sure am glad that I have left a very clear path about how to do it because it’s been a while since I’ve done them. I have a very strong outline to work from to both compose, record, edit, and publish each podcast. Because I chose to share my format with some friends a few years ago, I have a template that has a great deal of detail on all the steps to outline a strong talk. Whatever your project, make yourself a strong template so when you come back to a project of a similar type of work, you don’t have to start over.

If you have a detailed process that you do in your work, perhaps take time to write it down so you can pass on to others.

This particular template even talks about the editing process. It is one basic template for my entire podcast routine.

Leave process maps along your way.  At some point you’ll be glad you did.

===DEEPEN YOUR SPIRITUAL PRACTICE===

Self-Healing Spiritual Practice and Deepening Awareness of Our Cosmic Oneness

Sing As An Offering To Your Day

I sing to my day every day. I have made up little songs to the four directions and a gratitude song for my life and my day. Singing is an active vibration.  It takes music from your mind and turns it into an experience of emotion and communication.

Singing is a vibration that reaches everywhere. It stimulates all your chakras and nurtures and balances and heals your body. It opens your heart. It raises your spirits. And ultimately your song moves out to heal the world. That’s a lot to get from a song.

How are you going to add music to your spiritual practice? I began by choosing a purpose. Like singing to the four directions. I could sing to nature. I could sing to my day. I could sing to my path.  I have a song I sing at night that is both a blessing for the night to come and protection before I go to sleep.

Let your song evolve.  Begin with one line and see what organically follows. I have recently added songs to the cycles of ending and the cycles of beginning and I’m still working on the words to those songs. I let them emerge organically. But I sing them every day and the words are coming.

I happen to drum when I sing. I had a fair-sized collection of drums from my drumming classes but this is a small Celtic drum you hold in your hands.

Begin by turning and looking out the window and opening your heart to nature and see what melody she wants to offer you. Add singing to your spiritual practice. It will be a positive experience that opens new insights and awareness for you.

===GUIDANCE FROM OUR COSMIC COUNSELORS ===

Listen Beyond the Voice Within

Cosmic Counselors: I Seek Guidance On How To Plan For The Coming New Year.

I Journey to The Cosmic Counselors:

I find myself in the planning room at the base of the Blue Broadcast Tower in my Secret Garden. Around the table sit not my usual group of guides, but the three Cosmic Counselors and I. The Planet floats in the center of the table. “How do you wish to help the planet in the coming year?”, one Counselor asks. (They ae all female.)  “I don’t know. It is a big job. There are many aspects in which to participate. It seems that humankind needs to do a great deal of adjusting and accepting of what needs to emerge and how the world needs to change. I don’t know how I am to move forward in a positive manner.”

“Trust,” says the second Comic Counselor.  “I know how to encourage Light Workers to do High Watch for the world but is there something more specific that I can do to help raise the consciousness of humankind? I wish to work with the light workers who are already on the path to awareness.”

“You will use your mind to first envision a world of loving kindness and peaceful interaction into being – in all communities. Visualize peaceful interaction and loving harmony and deep kindness and caring. Visualize that supportive interaction in your own community, that interaction in your city. Visualize that peaceful interaction in your state. Let that peaceful interaction in your country become individualized interaction throughout the world,” says the third Cosmic Counselor.

The revolving planet in the center of the table take on a soft smile of happiness.

“Is it as easy as that?” I ask.

“It is the beginning. Then it can be multiplied and enhanced by more people visualizing a peaceful planet.”

I begin to relax. I mentally go into small communities on the planet and visualize kind people loving each other and cohabitating peacefully. A glow of contentment come from the land. It is still evolving in the cities. A slow soft laugh begins until the whole planet is laughing joyously at the changes that are being made energetically. I see people from different countries, laughing together, sharing together in harmony. As I watch, more and more healing places emerge on the surface of the planet. Not just peaceful cohabitation takes place but joyful and loving cohabitation becomes the norm.

The three Cosmic Counselors hold hands and reach out to include me in their circle. I am honored. We stand surrounding the planet holding hands. Our hearts begin to open and light emerges and begins to surround the planet in Heart Light. I hear a group singing. It is the Light Workers. They sing, “Open your heart and feel the world with an awareness of oneness and love for all humankind. We are one.”

I watch golden light flow deep within the Earth. It’s not filled yet. But it is spreading gradually throughout the world. I feel my own heart expand and reach out to embrace the entire planet with my love and support and positive thoughts and energy.

“Keep doing the work,” says one of the Cosmic Counselors. “There are many of you doing the work. Keep doing the work and you will find each other. Then join together and do even greater work.” We sit quietly.

Surrounding us is the sound of humming coming from all over the planet. I realize it is the Light Workers beginning to find each other and working together to save the planet. I sit quietly and open my heart and expand my consciousness to wrap my arms around the revolving planet. I open my heart more.

“Planet, where is our work?”

“Open your heart and join with other Light Workers to continue to raise the consciousness of our planet.”

I sit quietly for a while. I find myself on the bench in my Secret Garden. The Carillon is playing its melody out over the countryside to let all the Light Workers know of this important work we are to do.

“Your role is to find new ways to touch the hearts of Light Workers, to expand their conscious awareness of our oneness. Think of the whole. Immerse yourself in wholeness.  Be the whole.”

I invite you to join me in this mission.

===HOW TO BE A STRONG CONTRIBUTING MEMBER OF THE DIVERSE CIRCLE OF LIGHT BEINGs===

Expand Your Role in the Rapidly Evolving Universe

“Make Sure You Know Your Why” – Nancy Pelosi

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has been a powerhouse in the United States Senate for 20 years. One of the statements she is known for is “Make sure you know your why.”  Why do you want to take this particular step? Why do you believe what you believe?  What is your why for making a particular choice? Make certain it is aligned with your purpose and beliefs.

Remember Their Names

I am in a new environment surrounded by people coming in at all hours offering different services and they are all wearing Covid masks!  The physical therapist and I were joking about how they wouldn’t even recognize their fellow workers without their masks.

There are some titles I am not familiar with. Certified Nurses Assistant and Med Aide may be the same thing.  And then the shift change. I’m outnumbered but I’m working on it.

I play all sorts of games to help me remember their names. One of my Care Partners is Nathan, and I told him about Nathan Lane who has starred on Broadway.  Care Partner Nathan is very tall, young and dark skinned – Nathan Lane is none of those but that has helped me remember Nathan’s name.

One night nurse who has long hair extensions that are very beautiful is named Angela and somehow that reminds me of an angel.

Nancy said she was the only Asian girl named Nancy. Very young blond Lana is paired with the movie star Lana Turner. Everyone is good about helping me remember names but boy, am I outnumbered.

I have a list going of first names and what they do because writing them down helps me anchor the name and I can also look over it to refresh my memory.

On top of it all there are many shifts which means I cannot identify someone by a day or shift they are working.

What kind of games do you play to remember the names of new people? It’s a good thing to make an effort to know the names of people in a new environment. It helps to connect and bond with them.

===BROADEN YOUR HORIZON – EXPAND YOUR VIEW===

Raise Your Sights and Your Expectations

What Is Your Potential?

Potential means possibility, what can develop out of a situation. I’m sitting here having just turned 90 wondering what my potential is. There is one, a really good one.

My new place of service is unfolding very rapidly. It has to do with the young people who are in deep service here at Evergreen long-term care. It turns out Nathan is a writer. So as he was giving me a shower, we talked about his books and writing and got excited about finding each other.  Nathan has helped me hang my sun catchers and dream catchers in my window. He is one of my Care Partners so he sees to my needs, he brings my food and makes my bed in the morning and helps chart my progress. He’s probably in his late 20’s and we discovered that we have a deep bond around writing.

I have had more interaction with people in the four weeks that I’ve been here than I have in the past several years. So that is a huge and rewarding change for me.

A great part of the attraction of this new calling is that these young people are still creating their lives and it’s fascinating to encourage them and help them along. This is my new place of service. And it is unfolding. And perhaps in this case the word “potential” applies to what I can help others achieve. And then that becomes my potential too.

What is your potential? What is possible for you? What do you want to achieve? Look around and see if a new path has opened up. And go exploring. What is possible for your “next”?

===REFLECTIONS OF A DEEPER SONG PODCAST===

I’m going to start recording podcasts again. As I looked at my podcast folder, I was surprised to see how many scripts are ready to be recorded. It’s up to me. Recording is fun. Editing takes more time and I’m not sure how my eyesight is going to do that part.

I will be recording at night when others are in bed which happens to be very early. Otherwise, there’s a lot going on around here. I’m not sure when I’ll start doing it because I just decided this week that it would be fun to do again. All things unfold in their right time.

 Offer Your Gifts In Service

I have barely been here three weeks and I realized part of my new path is to offered my services as Book Yourself Solid Coach and Content Development Coach to individual staffers who might be interested in creating a website for an entrepreneurial endeavor. I am still really good at both and it would be fun to help someone start a side business and help with their website. I have no idea how that will unfold.

Some of you wrote that the description of the process, realizations, emotions and decisions that I had to go through to make this move was helpful to them to know what to expect – not just about the letting go process but of becoming willing to make the change.

My new path continues to unfold and I realize that the people I serve are the people who work here. They are kind, compassionate care givers.  What new venue can you offer your services in?

The Nature of Spiritual Power

The Nature of Spiritual Power

Living Our Deeper Song

Ashe
(“Ah-Shay”)
The Creative in me honors the Creative in you!

As I look for my role in helping to balance and heal this chaotic world, I understand that those of us who are aware must use our consciousness to change the world.

To do that, when we speak, we must become deeply aware of the originating source within us so we can become a constant conscious expression of the wholeness of the web of life.

It begins with our conscious contemplation of the state of the planet and the energy expressed by its inhabitants. We can begin to identify the eruptions on the planet that we personally want to help soothe. This impactful change begins with constant conscious contemplation of what is showing up, what imbalance is making itself known and how it is making itself known. Based on what we find, our calling can begin to move into conscious choices. Everyday choices, little choices, big impactful choices based on this awareness of the state of our planet and the depths of our consciousness.

Based on this thoughtful, conscious contemplation we redefine our role, our place of impact, our form of service and we begin to move into deep and open-hearted action.

We study the global consciousness. We try to understand the sources of impact and perhaps even its healing. Perhaps what we identify might actually make for a change in an area that we are focusing on.

But we have to go deeper than that. We have to go to the core consciousness, the all-encompassing consciousness at the center of the continuing evolution of the planet. We are an impactful participant and change is chaotic and sometimes scary. But if we, as Light Bearers, can move into our collective soul consciousness, that is where we will find our next course of action.

What steps do we take to tap into and utilize this all-encompassing spiritual power? It will be individual. We may work with groups. We may do our own personal inner work. We may work with one or two other people.

We must experiment. We must explore. We must observe the results of our choices and judge its impact on the overarching changes we wish to make.

There are Light Workers everywhere, including you. Notice them. Be inspired by them. Perhaps join them in service.

What form is your participation in the changing world beginning to take? You are filled with spiritual power. You are an integral part of the web of life. Do you have a thoughtful, impactful, profound gift to offer as we make this intense, organic, change?

Stay open. Listen closely to those soft internal prompts that suggest you change directions even a little. Learn to trust that inner voice. Let it open up new doors of possibility. The new dawn is here and we have deep, impactful work to do.

Conscious contemplation that leads to conscious choices will guide our path and open doors. Listen to the global consciousness to see how it wants you to help create this impactful shift. Listen to your soul consciousness to understand your role in this profound universal change. Come, let’s help heal the world together.

DEEPER SONG AFFIRMATION

I move into contemplation, immerse myself in spiritual power and move into deeper service.

DEEPER SONG PROCESS

  • Experiment with ways to listen to your inner voice. It could be shamanic journeys, automatic writing, or a simple knowing. Listen for and respond to those nudges from the universe.
  • Pay attention to the insights and opportunities that show up and give thoughtful consideration to how or what is calling you.
  • Pick one and go exploring. Together we will create positive changes for our planet.

===INNER WORK===

Deepen Your Inner Awareness

Use Your Imagination To Explore Possibilities

It’s like trying on an outfit and looking in the mirror to see how it fits.  That’s one way to use your imagination to explore possibilities.  Imagine different scenarios and see how they feel, see where they lead you, see what new possibilities open up.  Use your imagination to explore your choice and its potential more deeply.

===SELF-HEALING===

Take Responsibility For Healing Yourself

Sometimes You Need Help

I sure am glad that Doctor J knows how to do hip replacements because I didn’t even know I needed them. Sometimes you need help to get yourself well. He’s already done a ton of them in his own professional career and I have no clue how it even works. Aren’t we glad that people specialize in things we need to have help with?

As I settle into the care of this long-term facility, I am eating better than I was eating before and being offered nursing and tests that I didn’t know I needed. And if there’s something I can’t do physically, there’s always someone here to help do it for me.

I haven’t stepped out of my room to meet many of the residents here but I sure have met a lot of wonderful staff. I do see people going down the hall pushing wheelchairs and even a couple of really big machines that will lift people out of bed who can’t get out otherwise. I have not been to a meal in the dining room but there sure are a lot of people in wheelchairs here. It makes sense.

I plan to find a way to get stronger. I love physical therapy and I will keep doing that recumbent bike machine forever. After my hip replacement, my plan is to do a lot more walking and be ready to go outside in the spring. And in the meantime, there are a lot of people here that I can ask for help.

Don’t let yourself fall into dependency on other people helping. Keep up the good fight. Keep doing your part. For me it’s much more fun to go to physical therapy and be encouraged to get on the bike and do other things than it was to motivate myself in my live-alone apartment. I think that being surrounded by all these supportive people will help me make this important shift to more activity.

Even when we have to ask for help, we still have to do the work.

Do The Work

I have just begun a new Qigong class with Deng Ming-Dao at The Shift Network and it is a lovely class. 10 years ago, I could have done everything easily. Today I can’t. I’ve got the top part of me doing some of the work but the leg part is very behind. I have to do the work and there is quite a bit of it to do.

I’m behind because I didn’t do the work but also because some of my body needs fixing. I just found out I’m going to have both hips replaced in the near future. So it’s not only me and laziness, it is that some body parts need upgrades. But I have to do the work and it makes a difference that I have the supportive people in physical therapy here to come get me and put me on a recumbent bike several times a week and help me work certain other body parts and help me find new ways to get in and out of bed.  So it’s important do the work and it’s also important to find the help you need in order to be able to do the work. Go take a Qigong class or a yoga class or some classes that help you keep moving. Maybe you need some physical therapy to get your body going in the right direction. Keep your body in shape by honoring its needs and taking care of it and helping it heal when it needs help. You can get help to do the work but you do need to do the work. Keep moving. It’s more fun that way.

===OUTER  WORK===

Explore New Potential and Possibilities

Say “Yes” To The Universe

It has taken a great deal of trust on my part to move through this major unfolding change in my life. I felt that I did not have much control over what I saw as timing and details and I had to trust. I had to trust the move was the right thing to do. I had to trust that the space would be the perfect one for me. That it would happen in its perfect time. And it did.

It’s scary to trust. It means you feel you are no longer completely in control. It means you have to be flexible and fluid and respond to what is presented to you by the universe as opportunities, new roads, unexpected detours, pathways, insights and supportive people.

The universe is very busy giving us opportunities. We have to learn to recognize them. We need to actively explore them. We need to make our choices and we have to learn from them. Where are you going to explore today and what do you think you might learn? Go exploring. Create your own adventure.

Do The Work

I was not doing the work before I moved. Now I’m getting help with physical therapy and my body is doing some shifting. It’s hard when you’re old to decide to move your body on a regular basis. Sometimes it is not comfortable. We are absolutely, totally, singularly responsible for how our body ages. Our response to our choices and our beliefs creates the pattern of process.

Physical therapy has given me a couple of very simple movements to do and since I get up a lot during the middle of the night, that’s when I’ve chosen to add them to my life. My body is rested and relaxed and flexible and responsive to the exercises. And my posture is improving. What small physical pattern can you create and add to your life that will make a difference in how your body responds to life in general?

Give Your Best Gifts

We each have gifts that we offer the world. What are yours? And are you using them?

Some of our gifts are more noticeable than others. I can identify gifts like being able to identify the overview and writing about it with clarity for others. But a gift I may not be aware of is my enthusiasm and how contagious it is for others. And my curiosity.

What gifts do you bring to the world and how are you expressing them? How are they being received? What lives are you touching? How are you changing them? Look closely at the impact your very presence is having on others and know that you are a gift simply by being. Spread the joy – by your very presence!

===DEEPEN YOUR SPIRITUAL PRACTICE===

Self-Healing Spiritual Practice and Deepening Awareness of Our Cosmic Oneness

Commune With Clouds

I was a young housewife with four children and a husband who were all asleep in the house. It was Sunday and I went out to my backyard and lay on my back in the grass and watched the shape-shifting clouds and felt the heartbeat of the earth beneath my back. I listened to the stillness of my neighborhood on this Sunday morning. And I talked to the clouds.

It was a long time ago but I will never forget that moment of being one with nature.

Do you take time to connect with nature, to listen to her? To learn from her? Do you simply stop outside and listen to the sounds and feeling of nature? Do you take time to stop and watch the clouds shifting? Or a drop of rain dripping from a leaf? Or simply be present with a rainbow? Do you listen to the wind rattling the branches above your head? How do you take time to be with nature and how often do you do it?

I can sit by my window and look at nature with a turn of my head. But breathing fresh air is a bit more of a project. There is a door to the outside in the physical therapy room next door to me that leads to a deck with chairs and a gently sloping walkway that leads to a garden. So I know where an outside door is in this new space and I will begin by going to open the door for a few moments to enjoy each day. I can also turn and look out my window and play my flute.  In my other apartment I could play to the setting sun but now my window faces the sunrise. I just haven’t figured out how to not disturb anyone and still do that. But I will. For now, I play my Kalimba softly, do very soft drumming on my Celtic drum, and sing to the directions softly to myself.

Find a way to listen to and connect with nature several times throughout your day. She has many lessons and guidance for us when we listen.

===GUIDANCE FROM OUR COSMIC COUNSELORS ===

Listen Beyond The Voice Within

Trust The Unfolding

I journey to the Cosmic Counselors. Teach me to trust the unfolding.

I am deep in the old growth forest. A soft light shines on the path ahead of me. It is a signal of hope. It is a symbol of guidance. “Keep your eyes open” says a voice. “Look for the guidance. Look for the opportunities. Look for the insights. Listen with your heart. Listen with your intuition,” says the voice. “From those resources choose your path. It is always your choice. Make your choices based on your increasing awareness and contemplation of the possibilities and potential and the calling of your heart. Do the work. Listen. Interpret. Act.  All is well in your world.”

I am on my bench in my Secret Garden beside the reflecting pool. The Indigo Carillon begins to play. It sends my song through my melody. My harmonies. My voice in the world. We have work to do and we are to get very creative about how we do it. How are you playing your song? What melody are you offering the world? How are you in harmony with what is unfolding in your life? Listen carefully and stay in tune.

===HOW TO BE A STRONG CONTRIBUTING MEMBER OF THE DIVERSE CIRCLE OF LIGHT BEINGS===

Expand Your Role In The Rapidly Evolving Universe

Cherish Your Differences

Each person has an individual gift and we must cherish our differences. The adventurous person shows us new paths today. The curious person opens new avenues of exploration for us. Maintain an eclectic circle of friends who will help you expand in new directions. Cherish the differences you find in your friends.

===BROADEN YOUR HORIZON – EXPAND YOUR VIEW===

Raise Your Sights And Your Expectations

Go Exploring Every Day

What kind of an adventurer are you? Do you go exploring? Do you take the narrow path down an unexplored landscape? How daring are you as you move through life, learning from others, constantly curious? We must learn to go exploring well and often. We must knock on unopened doors and step through new thresholds and throw open windows.

How do you do that? Do you listen to the messages and opportunities that the universe provides you every day? It could be through a new person you meet, it could be an overheard phrase that touches your heart, it could be an unexpected realization of a new possibility. Our life is constantly unfolding but we must pay attention to the many possibilities our paths can take. Where will you go exploring today? Have an adventure!

===OUR EVOLVING FUTURE===

Support And Encouragement For Our Unfolding Role In The Future

Identify Your Cause

We only have seven or eight years to reverse the climate destruction we are doing and have a chance to save the planet at all.

You may be an advocate of the land, the ocean, a certain type of plant or animal that may be endangered. You may care about a certain group of people – children or the homeless or a certain ethnicity.

You may care more about one area of distress than another. I give money to organizations like the World Wildlife Fund and the National Wildlife Federation. But you may give to programs to help educate certain groups. Choose a cause that calls to you. Turn and step into service of that cause. It may be a donation or active participation or any other way you find that you can contribute.

Finding the work that you wish to do to help others is a fair, very powerful expansion of your awareness and your feelings and your place of service. Find what calls to you and get to work. Identify your cause and support it.

=== DEEPER SONG PHILOSOPHIES ===

The winds of grace are always blowing, but we must raise our sails.   Sri Ramakrishna

If you don’t raise your sails, you will not ever go anywhere. If you don’t row your boat in the middle of a river, it will not move forward. We have work to do to expand our life experience and nourishing food to produce. What new project of self enhancement will you undertake?

===INTENTION BLESSING===

May we hear and heed the call of the Divine Feminine.
May we expand our hearts and our expectations.
May we walk the Path of Light with a sure foot.
May we keep our gaze on the summit.
May we take this journey with a full heart.
I entwine my light with yours as we move forward to guide the way.

===REFLECTIONS===

On Turning 90

I was born November 19, 1932. It was shortly after the Great Depression and there were not many of us born then. My father was a civil engineer and had a good job so they felt secure enough to begin their family.

90 years is a really long time. It has been a good life, a fulfilling life, and I have vigorously marched on my own personal path. I have honored the gifts that I have been given and used them in creative ways. I continue to deepen my spiritual awareness and broaden my spiritual path. And I am still in service in the world. And that is probably the most important thing I have going for me right now.

How are you staying relevant in your life? Are you still finding ways to contribute to others, to the world? Are you still learning? Are you still exploring?

This community of seniors has various levels of continued engagement. I’m not sure there is still a desire to contribute to the world let alone a way to do it.

I’m very clear that my place of service is to this very kind staff who is deeply in service to seniors who really need a lot of help.

How do you find purpose in your life as you get really old? Sometimes what you have to offer is positive presence, your cheerful personality and your inquisitive mind.

I am grateful that I can still do my newsletter. It keeps me inquisitive and makes me feel like I’m contributing. As my eyes continue to change. I’m not sure how that’s going to unfold but I’m trusting that it will.

I still love to learn. I just started my sixth Qigong class. There are other things that I want to explore. I want to deepen my spiritual practice but since I have a suite-mate, its form is still evolving.

When it comes time for your birthday, take some time to see how you have contributed to our world. Examine your spiritual practice and see how it needs to be changed. Decide what you want to learn next and make those selections and get started. What new aspect will you add to your life? I’m getting more and more ideas for what I want to do about that. And I’ve only been here two weeks. My place of service is definitely about encouraging this staff.

Each year, perhaps even several times a year, pause to see how you’re doing. See what lives you are changing and see how are you connecting via new forms of service.

Explore a bit and make new choices. Take a new path and see where it leads you. You are never too old to go exploring.

===CARA’S CORNER===

Forge A New Path

My eyesight is getting trickier. It is dry macular degeneration and it’s scaring me because I love doing this newsletter. I have proofing from my friend Noralee in Canada. Even though I dictate, it’s even trickier to write using a 37-point san serif font.

I had given away my microphone thinking I would never do the podcast again, but it has gone over to my daughter’s house so I’m getting it back. It might be easier for me to record a message and then have someone help to edit it than to keep re-writing these pieces. I’ll let it evolve and stay flexible. I just need to keep adjusting and perhaps rethink some of my choices. All is working out well in my world.

===SING A DEEPER SONG ===

FLEXIBILITY

There are many paths to choose from as I undertake this next phase of my journey. Short steps. Long steps. Skipping steps. Contemplative steps.

I need to look around me for new ways of doing the work I love and refilling my role in this next stage of my life. The answer will appear. The universe will provide. I trust the process and let it unfold.

How Has Your Spirituality Expanded?

Living Our Deeper Song

Ashe

(“Ah-Shay”)

 The Creative in me honors the Creative in you!

It has been 60 years since I was in an Episcopal church service. I had been a Presbyterian before that. It was interesting to watch the services for Queen Elizabeth and remember some of those ritual patterns.

When I was a senior in college, I took a comparative religion course and had never even heard of half of the religions we studied. Christian, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, Jews, folk or traditional religions, includingAfrican traditional religions,

Chinese folk religions, Native American religions, Australian aboriginal religions, Baha’i faith, Judaism, Sikhism, Shintoism, Taoism, Tenrikyo, Wicca and Zoroastrianism. There is a myriad of meaningful approaches to a spiritual life.

My spiritual life has evolved. I discovered philosopher-poets like Rumi and Kahlil Gibran and Tagore who speak deeply to me. In 2000, after five years of study, I became a spiritual practitioner in the Center for Spiritual Living. I love the Tao Te Ching (Stephen Mitchel’s translation). I have studied and embraced many elements of shamanism. I have explored the energy philosophies of Qigong and Yoga. I do shamanic journeying several times a week and explore the unusual realms I am shown. And I have become aware that my spiritual path is about to take a new and upward and powerful turn. And that is unfolding fairly rapidly. It is indeed an eclectic spiritual path I have followed.

How are you exploring spiritually now? We usually begin with whatever our parents taught us. Sometimes we stay with that. Do you move through life looking for the concepts that touch your soul and follow wherever they may take you? You may end up following one path. Or you may end up with an eclectic spiritual practice. It’s all perfect. Whatever opens new doors and takes you deeper within is the place to go exploring.

How has your spirituality expanded? What new spiritual path will you explore next?

DEEPER SONG AFFIRMATION

I am open to an expanded and eclectic spiritual path. I go exploring.

===INNER WORK===

Deepen Your Inner Awareness

What Is The Foundation For Your Beliefs?

The beliefs we hold have risen from many places. A great many were taught to us by our parents based on their beliefs and their life experience ad their parent’s beliefs. Many beliefs are passed down in cultures. Those are tricky to identify and overcome because they were given to us at such an early age that we don’t think to question them.

Another set of beliefs develops over our life experiences. We can sometimes identify those that come out of a specific experience or relationship. All of those experiences culminate into a belief of what is possible.

Question your beliefs. I’m a metaphysician so my beliefs are focused around life, it’s purpose and its process and I continue to find ways to explore the unseen world. It has happened organically as I have come across new ways of going within.

We change our beliefs because we learn something that resonates more deeply. We organically let go of the familiar and establish and embrace a new set of beliefs. That probably means our friends will change as we seek like-minded people who are exploring similar paths to share in our adventure.

Changing your beliefs will change your trajectory. Identify and question all of the beliefs that are guiding your life and see if they are still relevant to the journey you want to take.

I’m working at changing a lot of my beliefs about age because I’ve never gone through this part of the aging process before. What I believe is possible for me at this stage in my life has changed with the aging process.

What impactful changes can you make? Do you start something new? Do you stop something you’ve been doing? What changes can you make that will change the trajectory of your life?

I believe that I can help change the world through my thoughts and intentions. I believe that I have the ability to self-heal. I don’t always know exactly how to do that but I believe it can be done. I have an interesting set of beliefs about what happens when you die based on Michael Newton’s books. And I continue to learn life lessons like when to let go of a concern and simply trust.

Allow your beliefs to change. Question your beliefs. Discard the beliefs that no longer serve you.

Explore the new possibilities that open up with the clearing of that space. Look closely at the foundations for the beliefs you hold today. Explore other cultures. Notice what science is opening up as possibilities. And perhaps establish new beliefs to carry you forward.

You Are Your Own Everything

You are your own lover, your own teacher, your own best friend, your own healer – you are your own everything. Stop looking outside yourself, just do the work yourself.

Wow. That puts it all on you, your choices your thoughts, your inner wisdom. That’s where your guidance is. That’s where your insights come from. That’s where your actions originate – within you.  Whatever you observe in the world around you, it ultimately is up to you what you do with it – accept it, change it, reject it – it’s your choice. There’s no one outside of you to get the job done.  You are the one that makes you feel happy. You are the one to make you feel loved. You are the one who guides your steps and chooses your path. Follow your own inner wisdom. Watch for the nudges the universe provides for you and be your own best friend.

===SELF-HEALING===

Take Responsibility for Healing Yourself

Overview

We are responsible for our own healing and choices to do or not do things that affects our physical form. How are you doing? What areas of your life need to be strengthened? How would you do that? Will you do that?

When we look at the overview of our life, it is easier to see the patterns that were established in the areas that are calling out for change.

First, identify what needs to change and then explore and experiment how you would like to change it and what methods you would use to do so.

I am resisting walking more but I am welcoming the Qigong shaking exercise and a Qigong sequel for joints. What will you do? Don’t beat yourself up for what you won’t do. Substitute. Identify what you will do and do it. I’m going to add more stretching moves when I stand at the kitchen sink. I’m going to do more standing and looking out the window. Substitute as you will, but keep the over-arching purpose in mind – to create a change that improves your life on some level.

It could be more meditation, it could be more movement, it could be different eating, it could be a real shift in attitude. Change is good.

Pause and take an overview of where you are in life and make some new choices. Is it time you create some changes in your life? Do it!

Where The Mind Goes, The Qi Goes

In my Qigong Yin-Yang course, Robert Penn said, “Where the mind goes the Qi goes.”  I need to get busy. That means that my thoughts can alter a physical condition, a situation, an event – wherever I direct my intention. I already knew that as a Reiki master teacher. But it was good to be reminded. I need to be conscious with that much power. I need to be selective with that much power. I need to be productive with that much power. My thoughts create my reality. We are responsible for what we experience. Oh dear, I have some work to do.

Know that your mind can send healing Qi energy wherever you send it. What well you heal today? What will you change today? Get to work. There is much power within your mind and your intentions.   Where the mind goes the Qi goes

The Voice of Authority

I have dry macular degeneration for which Western medicine knows no cure. And I have an eye doctor appointment soon so I have to be really careful about what I let the “voice of authority” tell me is possible or not possible. I can hold on to the holistic belief that we can rebalance and self-cure our physical bodies.

And I am gradually losing my eyesight. So what adjustments do I get to make in order to stay functional? What new skills am I to learn? What things will be out of reach for me?

I know that I’m going to start listening to more podcasts and audiobooks so that I know how to do that. What about ordering groceries online or accessing my bank account? What creative adjustments will I need to make there?

What I really have to guard is my belief in what is possible and my belief in what I deserve. I have to really, really stay on top of that in order to have a voice in this particular unfolding physical process.

Who we see as an authority figure or what concepts we believe are hard to overcome requires us to move into our personal belief system in defiance of what appears in our material world. When we search, we can find those seeming miracles.

Be aware of the power you give those you see as knowledgeable.  Look for some of the miracles that have happened for others.  Whatever you feel, there are always exceptions to everything and you might just as well be one of them.

Simple Changes

My office chair broke several months ago and I have been sitting on a walker and it hurts my body. I have finally replaced it with a new office chair and it is making tremendous shifts in how I’m able to work at the computer.

What have you put off replacing that could change your life? With this new chair my posture is different, I can work longer, I can actually lean back. It has been too long since I had a chair that would allow me to do that. Why do we put off the things that we know are good for us for so long?

Look around at the things you need to change, whether it’s physical or emotional or even spiritual. What have you been putting off and will you do it now? Then notice what happens. Be prepared for positive change.

Your Weekly Promise

I thought I was going to write a little segment about setting goals until I realized this is really about making a promise to myself to do some things that I really want to do and have been putting off. I have a podcast I really want to listen to and have been putting off. That’s on my promise to myself list. I really need and want to establish a walking pattern each day. That’s on my self-promise list. I really want to learn that joint healing Qigong series that I shared last week. That’s on my list. I will keep it to those three things because I want to establish the habit of making a promise to myself to do something that I really want to do and do it. What will you promise yourself to do this week just for you? Keep it simple. Keep it small. And make it happen.

===DEEPEN YOUR SPIRITUAL PRACTICE===

Self-Healing Spiritual Practice and Deepening Awareness of Our Cosmic Oneness

A Focused Eye

Take time to examine your spiritual practice to make certain it is meeting your needs. What is nudging you? What can you do more of? What will you do less of? What new spiritual practice do you want to explore? Make changes in your spiritual practice.

One of the practices I may begin to do again centers around a box in which I have put quotes that are really meaningful to me. The practice is to simply draw one out of the box each day and explore it during the day. I have quotes from the Tai Te Ching, Rumi, Tagore, Deng Ming-Dao, Stephen Mitchell on a range of topics. So drawing out one quote is an interesting way to focus my day. Sometimes it prompts me to take an action. Sometimes it is just something to contemplate. What element can you add to your spiritual practice that will deepen your experience?

Anchor The Intention With A Talisman

A talisman is any item imbued with a specific power by its bearer to serve a specific intention.

It could be a crystal you hold or wear.  It can be something you write or read aloud.  It can be a plant or a song. A talisman is used to anchor energy on the physical plane.

Traditionally, a talisman anchors energy in the physical plane. That energy may be protective in nature or may be intended to draw abundance, wealth, or a wide variety of blessings to its user.

A talisman is usually something from nature. Meaning might come with words or symbols or color or shape – whatever calls to you.

I have a lot of crystals. Hand holders, clusters, small stones, tall columns, round stones in all colors. I hold them in my left hand and listen to their message. Then I choose how to use them in my spiritual practice.

Where you place your talisman may have an impact on its energy so tune in as you place it and experiment. I am aware of the directions when I placed things on my altar.

It would also be interesting to rearrange your altar at the equinoxes and solstice to honor the seasons.

What objects will you select to guide you and where do they belong in your spiritual practice? What talismans will you choose to use and for what purpose? The physical properties of the talisman are not as important as the intention of its bearer. If you are grounded in your desires, your talisman will give you something that you can concentrate on to help you affirm your intention and achieve your goals.

===GUIDANCE FROM OUR COSMIC COUNSELORS ===

Listen Beyond The Voice Within

I go to my secret garden and sit on the bench beside the reflecting pool. Across the pool my three cosmic counselors are dancing. They are dancing in a slow circle and my squirrel guide is beating a drum for the rhythm they dance to. It is a dance of movement and change. It is a dance of moving forward. It is a dance of releasing and moving on. It’s a dance of evolution.

We are to move with the rhythm of unfolding. We are to be aware and flexible and willing to change. And most of all we are to trust that what we will be given, the opportunities that will open up, will be absolutely perfect for where we are in our life right now.

The three Cosmic Counselors end their dance and with their hands in prayer position bow to each other. The squirrel guide puts down her drum. They sit in a circle of serene contemplation – ready, willing, and open to change.

I sit on the bench beside the reflecting pool and do the same.

===HOW TO BE A STRONG CONTRIBUTING MEMBER OF THE DIVERSE CIRCLE OF LIGHT BEINGS===

Expand Your Role In The Rapidly Evolving Universe

How Do You Use Time?

We can spend time, we can lose time, we can waste time, we can value time. How do you view time? How do you value time? How do you use time?

I have some serious soul-searching to do because I waste a lot of time on activities that do not improve any facet of my life. How do I change?

I’m aware of some choices I would like to make like listening to podcasts and audiobooks. But I haven’t taken those steps yet. It’s way too easy to stay stuck in a mindless game of Spider Solitaire and reruns. What a true waste of my time.

Now I know I can’t work all the time. I need to have balance. I write often throughout my day as an idea comes up and I dictate a version of what I want to say. But there are huge chunks of time that I spend mindlessly. I would like to stop that.

I want to explore and cultivate alternative options. Which means I have to listen to the podcast on the Akashic records that I know about and have wanted to listen to for three weeks straight. Just do it. I identified at least one book I want to read. I know of one audiobook I want to get. Why do I fall back into the mindless choices that have almost become a habit? How do I, we, get unstuck from non-supportive choices?

Just do it. One step at a time. I am writing this particular segment on a Sunday. Monday I will listen to that podcast. Tuesday I will order that audiobook and listen for an hour. That’s a start. Just begin.  I will notice my choices and then be selective and purposeful. I will keep myself from falling into the mindless routines that are easy but nonproductive. That doesn’t mean I have to be busy. I just need to keep exploring new options.

Raise Your Sights and Your Expectations

Learn From Other Cultures

My life is rather eclectic. I’ve taken bits and pieces from the spiritual practices of many cultures and have turned them into my own version of spirituality. I like Taoism. I like some of the ceremonies of the Native American cultures. I talk to crystals, I like flower essences. I have studied yoga and Qigong and Shamanism. I learned from Eastern poets like Rumi and Gibran and Tagore. I have absorbed ideas from many cultures into my life. That is a good thing.

I will always question a new belief to see if it suits me at this stage of my particular path. Sometimes I adapt it. Sometimes I absorb it. Sometimes I only take a small portion of it.

Examine your own belief system and see if what’s there is what you really truly want to keep. Perhaps do some spiritual practice cleaning. Perhaps do some simple rearranging. Examine the beliefs you hold and see if they are what you want guiding you in your life today. Choose what serves you now.

===OUR EVOLVING FUTURE===

Support and Encouragement for our Unfolding Role in the Future

Fall Cleanup

Depending on where you are on the planet, it is fall. And that means it is time to clean up and put away things for the winter. What in your life do you need to clean up? This might be a good time to look and do the work.

Pause at this change of seasons to evaluate what you are creating in your life, what you want to release in your life, and what results you want to encourage in your life. Any change of season is a good opportunity to evaluate where you are and plan your future.

Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs

Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs is often shown as a pyramid that shows our basic needs. Here are our needs from the wide bottom up:

  • physiological
  • safety
  • belonging and love
  • esteem
  • cognitive
  • aesthetic
  • self-actualization
  • transcendence.

Obviously the top gets narrower and that means if you are at a survival level there is no way you can think about self-actualization. Your paramount focus is to survive. So when I hear prospective voters in the US put the economy first, I realize they are more in survival than concerned over the possible loss of democracy in this country. That’s too esoteric for them at this stage of their being-ness.

If you are reading this you are certainly in the self-actualization category and we’re working our way into transcendence.

Those of us who are toward the upper point of this pyramid of needs have work to do that only we can do. It is consciousness work. It is visualization work. It is holding High Watch for the planet work. It doesn’t make me happy about the people in the lower, broader base of this pyramid who want to abolish democracy but it helps me understand that they feel threatened on the survival level. You cannot possibly think in terms of self-actualization and transcendence which are at the lower and broader end of the pyramid.

We have work to do, those of us who can. I suggest that what we want to do is to go within and consciously become aware of our own role as a Light Bearer for this planet. How we are to express that is still unfolding.

I’m going to suggest we begin with our spiritual practice. Perhaps we spend time focused on balancing the entire planet. Perhaps we spend time focused on healing or changing a situation.  If you were going to help create change in the world, what would your focus be?

I send energy to the planet for self-healing, the power to restore its rivers, to cease its destructive weather patterns and forest fires, and begin to self-heal.

I do not understand those who seek to do harm. I don’t want to understand. But I can create a visualization in which I see them encased in a sphere that simply sends back to them the negative energy they send out. They self-destruct. I’m not going to spend a lot of time on the bad guys, I would rather focus my attention on supporting those who are consciously ready to actively heal themselves, raise their consciousness, and participate in the interconnected web of life in a positive, powerful, and collaborative way.

That would eliminate some worry – if we only focus on the good guys and how we can do more good.

In my shamanic journeys I set up a transformative sphere around myself. (The Transformative Sphere). It protects me from anything destructive that comes toward me while I am in that inner world. Because it is a transforming sphere it also transforms my own worries and concerns while I’m in it so that I have less fear, less apprehension. I can then spend time encouraging and cultivating a vibration that nourishes and expands my awareness of the wholeness we are.

=== DEEPER SONG PHILOSOPHIES ===

I have spent many days stringing and unstringing my instrument
while the song I came to sing remains unsung.

 – Rabindranath Tagore

Do you spend all your time getting ready rather than doing? Are you so busy preparing that you never step forth and do the work? Are you spending so much time stringing and unstringing your instrument that you get nothing done?

Just begin. Take a step. And then another. Explore. Taken action. Check the result. Made changes. Try something new. Repeat. Start playing your song. It will be perfect.

Deeper Song Calendar

I have a new project. I’m not sure if it’s for me or if it’s for us. It’s the Deeper Song Calendar. I am building it on astrology which bases the focus for the days of the week on the planet that is overseeing it. And I am working with my deep love of quotes that have been meaningful in my life. I may just share it as I go along and hopefully get to the point where it’s one big offering but I want to use it to consciously focus my intention each day. It is a work in progress and it is unfolding.

===CARA’S CORNER===

My New Path

I do need to find out from my guides what I am to be doing now and receive any messages of guidance they choose to give me at this point in time. The core messages was: Allow yourself to be taken to new realms of possibility and work from there.

I will stay open to nudges from the universe, unexpected insights that appear in my mind, and stay open to unexpected interpretations of the unfolding of the planet, its population and its existence. The key is to stay open.

I have no plan. I’m just going to be open to whatever thoughts show up and explore them in whatever direction I am called to take.

That’s all I know at this point – rise above the chaos of the planet and find serene guidance there that I can share with you. Let’s see where it takes us. Let’s see what kind of adventure unfolds. I’m game. Are you?

===SING A DEEPER SONG ===

The Explorer

I trust. I trust the nudges. I trust the insights. I trust the unexpected circumstances. I allow myself to be guided by the unseen world.

I trust. I trust the nudges. I trust the insights. I trust the unexpected circumstances. I allow myself to be guided by the unseen world. It is a higher journey I go on now. I’m not even sure what I’m looking for, but I will know it when I experience it. And I will bring it back for us.

I trust. I trust the nudges. I trust the insights. I trust the unexpected circumstances. I allow myself to be guided by the unseen world. It is a higher journey I go on now. I’m not even sure what I’m looking for, but I will know it when I experience it. And I will bring it back for us. I release all preconceptions of what is possible. I do whatever needs to be done, and I open my heart and my mind to the unexpected. I am guided by what shows up.

What Is Your Life Passion?

What Is Your Life Passion?

Living Our Deeper Song

Ashe
(“Ah-Shay”)

The Creative in me honors the Creative in youQ!

What is the core passion behind your life choices? There are some aspects of your life that are so necessary to your existence that they are part of everything you undertake – your relationships, your work, your spiritual life. What is that core passion for you and how are you developing it and expanding it?

I thought I had two. I love learning. And I have a strong desire to turn and share what I figure out with others. But now I realize that the need to turn and share is part of my own learning process. It is how I figure out how to apply what I learn. So learning about the spiritual world is a core passion for me and has been a driving force all of my life. What is the core passion for you and how does it manifest?

The further along you are in your life the more obvious the pattern is. What are the similar choices that you’ve made throughout your lifetime? What was the passion beneath those choices? Maybe it’s a gift that you have developed. Maybe it is similar experiences that you continue to seek out.

Take a moment to look back over your choices and identify the core passion that has been driving you throughout your life.

Your core passion is something you don’t want to live without. I am faced with failing eyesight.  I use a 30-point font and I dictate. And I can listen. Be creative in how you pursue your core passion.

Nurture it and get creative with how you express it. I do love to write and have written for radio and television and books but still at the core, writing is how I figure things out and deepen my own learning process. When you discover your passion, do a lot more of it.

DEEPER SONG AFFIRMATION

I identify my core passion and bring it more deeply into my life.

DEEPER SONG PROCESS

  • Make a list of the deeply important things that you do. Then look for what is at the core of your passion. What is driving you?
  • Get creative in how you keep that in your life.

===INNER WORK===

Deepen Your Inner Awareness

Guilt

Guilt is about feeling you made a wrong choice. That you are totally responsible for a certain outcome. We make our choices based on who we are at the time and the depth of our awareness and the breadth of our understanding of the over-arching situation.

Sometimes we never reach a point of examining the choices that we make and the reasoning behind them in that particular moment.

I have made some unaware choices in my life. I did not see the potential path they would lead to very clearly.  I was not aware enough to have a broader view. That’s just part of walking the path. At some point you realize the consequences and results that are created. Sometimes you do well. Sometimes not so much.

There is a tendency to believe our choices are the major factor in where we end up but I know that we are being guided by the Universe through our inner voice, our inner knowing. We respond or react in the moment.

There are no wrong choices as much as some being not as stellar as they could be. Each choice brings a lesson that you need, that you wanted, that you asked for. And every choice affects where you end up. You need to trust your inner voice so that it can guide you. Every choice you finally make, for whatever reason, is perfect.

Do you see the lessons and opportunities and outcomes that you need next? Trust that you make the choices that are right for you.  Keep raising your sights. Keep exploring the side roads. Pay attention to what your actions are producing in your life. And make conscious choices based on the results you are getting. Don’t feel guilty about the past or what those choices of the past created. What you have is right now. Listen to your inner voice, then open your heart and choose. It will be perfect.

Release and Rechoose

I woke up at 6 o’clock in the morning with the entire new floor plan in place. I’ve been concerned because the assisted living space that I am applying for is very small. But what I discovered was if I flip-flopped everything it fit differently and better. What do you need to totally rearrange in your life in order to make it work?

In this plan in my head, I moved a chair from one end of the room to the other and suddenly everything else had more room. What one big concern or focus in your life needs to be rearranged to free up more space for other things? What basic belief are you holding that is keeping you from rearranging your life?

I was focused on having a major chair facing a window. When I put the major chair beside the window, the whole room opens up. And there’s more room beside the chair for things I want to keep close at hand.

What major concern, what major focus is anchored so firmly in a decision or a belief that you cannot rearrange everything around it? I’m going to look at the timing of when I choose to do things throughout my day. I’m going to look very carefully at my belief system of what I think is possible. I’m very grateful to my inner self for totally flip-flopping my floor plan and opening and expanding the possibility and potential. Toss it all up in the air and see where it lands. Rethink, release and rechoose.

You Have to Have Faith

I’m writing this pep talk for me and sharing it with you because when we come up against an unknown in our life, we have to trust that we will have the wisdom and fortitude and clarity to move through it. This assisted living space I am to go to is very small. A friend who has been there wasn’t sure there was room for my computer desk. That shook me to the core. I have a 21-inch monitor because my eyesight has dry macular degeneration and I need it to be able to see. And even though I have been giving stuff away I have not apparently begun to give enough away.

It is hard to give away things that have meaning for you. I have a lovely alternate that is small, but I may have to move it into the shelf of a small bookcase I hope there is room for. My friend who has been there kept telling me that I will not be given anything more than I can handle. I would have room for what I need. But I want too much. So now I’m going to go through the little bit that I have left and see what else I can release or rearrange more effectively. I have to trust that I will have room for everything I need to have with me.

What are you dreading? What is it you are not sure you can do? We have to trust in the love of the universe that it will give us only what we can handle or need to handle in order to move forward. I think that’s called faith.

===SELF-HEALING===

Take Responsibility for Self-Healing

Shaking

It’s a very simple shaking exercise I learned in Robert Penn’s Qigong class. You literally stand with your knees slightly bent and shake everything. You gradually bring your arms up so you shake them over your head as you keep gently shaking your whole body. It’s amazing how rejuvenated you feel when you finish.

===OUTER  WORK===

Exploration of New Potential and Possibilities

Realising

As I continue to downsize for a potential move at an unknown time, it’s very interesting to notice what one hangs onto under those circumstances. My daughter comes over every week and we rearrange and I release some stuff but it’s the things that I’m not releasing yet that I have a chuckle over. Sometimes I release something because I will never use it again. Then there are the things I’m having a hard time with. What do I want to keep around me and why and how do I prioritize that?

My new space will be smarter than what I’m in and my priorities are my altar, my computer, and a chair with room to have crystals and meditation tools beside me to work with.

Sometimes it’s easy to release things and sometimes it takes quite a few tries. Some things you know you are going to keep with you until the very end.

Notice why you are finding it hard to release a situation or item. What emotion is it nurturing? What feeling it is creating? Simply find something smaller to serve in the same role.

I begin with my altar. My spiritual practice. I made that happen first. Then I’ve organized my computer and workstation.

What are the priorities in your life? And what can you let go to make more room for those things that are truly important?

Stay Intellectually Curious

I love to learn Qigong and it is not only an intellectual stimulus but it is the source of great learning and adventuring. I am very intellectually curious. It’s important to keep exploring whatever your age. There’s always something new to learn. I’m learning more about energy healing in the form of Qigong even though I began to use energy in the form of Reiki 45 years ago. It is now my healing method of choice. Will you go exploring and look into an area that you’re curious about? Will you look at some videos or listen to some podcasts or take a class or two?

Five years ago, I got on the Shift Network’s Shamanic Healing summit to learn about Shamanism. As I listened to the speakers, I knew that I wanted to learn it and I found my teachers. It has been an important learning process and journey for me. Now I’m exploring Qigong as a form of self-healing.

Stay intellectually curious. It makes your life more interesting and it makes you a more interesting person.

Space Clearing

I stood for a long time and looked at the space that had just been cleared before me. I felt like I could breathe again. My daughter and son-in-law just moved out a lot of things that I had prepared to go. In this process of pre-downsizing before I move into assisted living, I’ve had to give away a whole lot of things. In the evening that my daughter-in-law came and took the last few major pieces away, I rearranged what remained to resemble some sort of form that I’m going to have in the new space. There’s a whole lot of emptiness in the middle of the room and it felt very freeing. I felt as if I could breathe again.

Begin with an empty space and choose carefully what you put in it. Keep it simple. It will be beautiful. Can you truly breathe in your space? What can you remove that will make you feel more serene?

I’m going to simplify the things I keep on my desk. It’s sort of like wiping the slate clean so I start fresh each day. What part of your life do you need to create open space and carefully re-choose what you bring into it? Keep it simple.

===DEEPEN YOUR SPIRITUAL PRACTICE===

Self-Healing Spiritual Practice and Deepening Awareness of Our Cosmic Oneness

When Is The Best Time For Your Spiritual Practice?

It’s a good idea to experiment with the time of day that you do your spiritual practice. When I learned Transcendental Meditation 50 years ago it was suggested we meditate when we come home from work so we make a break between work and restorative personal time. Some people meditate first thing in the morning. Explore an experiment to find the right time of day and the right place for your meditation practice.

I have two times. After I’m dressed in the morning before I really begin my day, I play my flute while looking out the window, then do my transcendental meditation and some Qigong. And I take time again towards the end of the day to offer thanks for what has unfolded and what I have learned and the new pathway that are opening up. Experiment and find your own meditative rhythm.

One of the things I learned in Qigong class is that I don’t have to do the whole sequence every day. I can take one movement and deepen it. The same is true in meditation practice. I may make one whole meditation period about playing my flutes. And once you find out what works, don’t forget to experiment again later on. Because your needs will change. Be creative about the timing and the form of your meditative practice.

Expand Your Role in the Rapidly Evolving Universe

Passing The Torch

When we pass our wisdom on to others, we become both student and teacher. I have two major reasons for putting out this newsletter. One is to figure these things out for myself and the other is in hopes of changing a life here and there. So I am indeed both student and teacher. I get excited when I get an insight that helps me make clearer choices or newer choices or any choice. I get excited when I go exploring and discover something that changes my own life and I wish very much to turn and share that with others. What are you learning in your life and how do you turn and share it with others?

Explore and Expand

I am a spiritual explorer. I am drawn to many modes of spiritual exploration. Shamanism, Buddhism, Qigong, metaphysics – all manner of inner work that defines and deepens my connection to the unseen essence.

Rather than work with just one system I like to explore various topics. I love any opportunity to learn more about the subject and to find potential new teachers.

As I learn more, I become more discerning. I know what I do want to learn more about and what I need to not pursue at this moment. One of the first thing that I attended was a summit on Shamanism which I knew very little about at the time. That was six years ago. Not only did I begin to understand what it was about but I found the teachers that I needed at that time. And I began my journey into Shamanism.

Online is a great place to learn, to go exploring. Whether you simply watch a “how-to” video that someone has offered or take a class, there are many ways to expand your knowledge and your experience of a potential area of interest. Go exploring and see what adventures it takes you on. Go down the path less worn and expand your horizon.

Explore Another Culture

One of the ways that we can become more inclusive is to learn more about the beliefs and habits and culture of another country.  My personal spiritual exploration has led me to Buddhism, Shamanism and Indian and Chinese culture. I know a little bit about Irish beliefs. I know about Christianity. I know about the Druids.

When you take time to look at the cultural traditions of a culture, first you might find something you like and you will begin to understand where the people of that culture are coming from.

Where would you like to go exploring? And what would you like to explore? See what gifts from another culture you would like to bring into your life.

The Rise of the Feminine

I have an astrologer friend who says that Venus is coming into play this fall in a way that has not happened in our lifetime. In the US a record number of young people are registering to vote because they will not stand for the cruel and bigoted abolishment of the freedom to control their own bodies. That cruel law is being dictated by old white men. In the US I think the women are going to change the focus and perhaps abolish the Republican Party and its vitriol as we simply vote for those who stand up for the well-being of all.

Wherever you are in the world, keep standing up for the rights of everyone. Particularly keep an eye on how women are doing in your part of the world. And take action.

You must learn to trust. You must learn to observe. Learn to be patient. When you trust the universe to provide exactly what you need you simply accepted it. You trust. You trust the universe to provide and you trust that you make the right choices. Step out of the way and let the Tao do the work.

===CARA’S CORNER===

Letting Go

I am over-thinking again. Possibly over-planning. It’s sort of who I am. But I’m approaching a time when I really have to let go of everything and trust. I have to trust that the right space opens up in assisted living – with a perfect roommate. I have to trust the timing is just right. I have to trust that I will be OK to continue releasing physical things to make room to fit in the smaller space. And that’s just the trust around the letting go part. I get to trust that I find the right things to do to help my body re-stabilize. I have to trust that I write things that are meaningful to those of you who read this newsletter. I have to trust the people who need to hear what I say find me and take action with the parts that resonate with then. I have to trust that this world will figure out this huge change we are facing and we will be able to raise our sights to hold a vibration for the highest good for all.

What do you need to trust? Do you trust the universe to offer your perfect next opportunity? Do you trust your inner voice to make a wise choice for right now? Do you trust you will recognize the next path that opens for you? There is a letting go part of trusting. You don’t manipulate, you don’t plan, and you probably don’t even vote. You just trust that you have the inner wisdom and insight to recognize the next opportunity and to make the right choices around it. How are you at trusting?

Let Go and Trust

My world unfolds in a perfect pattern.

My world unfolds in a perfect pattern. I trust in my ability to see clearly and take the perfect next steps.

My world unfolds in a perfect pattern. I trust in my ability to see clearly and take the perfect next steps. All is well in my world.
