Portals and the Unseen World
An Inner-world Exploration

I explore the 95% that is the Unseen World through the process of a shamanic journey.  I have established guides and guardians and metaphors that only I am to interpret.  I journey every day.  Sometimes I ask for advice.  Sometimes I ask for guidance and deeper awareness.  Sometimes I just journey to myself for my future path.

THE FOUNDATION
Create an eclectic and evolving spiritual practice.

We lay the foundation for our journey together with a thoughtful spiritual practice.  In my case, it involves shamanic journeying, sound healing, vibrational healing, strong intentional work and writing to figure things out. Weave this into each section.  Each of these modalities takes me deeper into the place where we are all one and it helps me raise my vibration so I co-mingle with others of a raised or higher vibration.  My work will do the same for you.

The Packed Potential Before the Beginning

May 29, 2019 By Cara Lumen

The Packed Potential Before the Beginning
An Inner-World Exploration

Wuji means “no limits.” Wuji is at the center and the beginning of our pilgrimage.  Wuji is essential stillness, the packed potential before the beginning.  It is the beginning of the beginning. – I Ching, Deng Meng Dao

Imagine yourself in deep, deep stillness.  No ideas frolic through your mind.  No emotions nudge you for attention.  You are simply there.  At the beginning.  Filled with packed potential. “Packed potential!”  What a fabulous idea! What does that look like?  Feel like? Can I truly be so still and present inside that I can feel the wuji, the center at the beginning of the next step of my personal journey?

I would like that.  I would like to be so present and still and centered that I am like a bird sitting on a branch prepared to fly but not yet doing so.  Simply being present and filled with the potential for movement.

How else can I experience wuji?  How might I think of packed potential? How might I cultivate it and use it to move into whatever form I take that creates change?

Part of wuji is about waiting

Wuji is how you feel before you take action. For instance, I wanted to write this article in order to figure out how to apply this concept of packed potential. There are, as I write this, organic pauses that allow new thoughts to emerge for consideration and clarification.  But underneath it all is that deep, deep, deep sense of permanence, of a part of me that is always present, the wuji, the packed potential that is me. Here in my body suit.  Living my body suit life.

“Wuji means “no limits.”

I have to get out of my body suit in order to understand the concept of wuji – no limits – because my body suit is full of limitations. I have to journey to the unseen world of my inner knowing in order to even begin to conceive of “no limits.”  That’s not a body suit concept. It’s an inner world concept, an unseen world concept.  That unseen world is within us, open to us, beckoning to us to come explore.  We can simply close our eyes, turn off our minds and fly. With no limits!

When we use our body suit minds, we cannot conceive of limitless potential because we can’t get there in our body suits.  But our inner self knows and can take us there.

Perhaps all we need is to know wuji, “packed potential”, exists and that it is possible

If I sit here at my desk and go within, there’s a stillness.  My body suit disappears and I’m left as an energy floating in the present moment.  When I release my body suit, my inner self moves softly into the Great Nothingness where everything is potential, where everything is evolving and changing and shifting shapes and direction – constant unfolding and evolving movement.  I become part of that transforming energy and I, too, change.  I become presence.  I become potential.  I simply am.

And that’s where we begin to let our lives unfold.

Make time to unpack your wuji, your packed potential

You may find this wuji awareness of packed potential in meditation.  You may find wuju in nature.  You may find it in an action that you take.

I am changing my spiritual practice to include smaller but more frequent moments in my day. That gives me the opportunity to be still and silent and present more often.  I pause to examine and evaluate where I am and where is calling me, deepen my spiritual connection and then make an aware and aligned choice. I will expand my midday shamanic journeying to include meditation with a crystal and more drumming and singing of power songs.  I will pause again as the sun sets to be with nature and to begin to close the cycles of my day.  At night I will drum my power songs to guide my dreams in the night.  You get the idea. Create small moments of spiritual practice and inner awareness at various points in our day, then make that a habit.

How will you unpack the packed potential that awaits you?

Wui means “no limits.” Wuji is at the center and the beginning of our pilgrimage.  Wuji is essential stillness, the packed potential before the beginning.  – I Ching, Deng Meng Dao

Build a Launching Pad for Your Inner work

April 10, 2019 By Cara Lumen

Build a Launching Pad for Your Inner work
An Inner World Exploration

Ninety-five percent of the world is unseen.  If we want to go exploring, we have to build a strong launching pad.  How do we do that?

Where are you going?

Because working in the inner world is unseen work, we can’t exactly make any plans.  We must simply learn to open ourselves up to unexpected possibilities.  We can develop techniques to take us on the inner exploration but where we go is, well, simply where we go.  Our job is to stay open and learn as much as we can when we do journey to the unseen world.

First, we have to build our launching pad.

Deepen your roots for stability

Get a clear idea of your personal spiritual belief system.  Look closely to see if you have developed your own spiritual belief system or if you are still caught up in what you were taught by someone else along the line that were really their beliefs, not ones you want to embrace. Question your beliefs. See what is a core belief for you today. Adjust your beliefs as you expand your consciousness.

I have a strong foundation in metaphysics upon which I have layered Taoism and more recently Shamanism.  Each one of those conscious explorations has given me insights and tools for inner growth.  I have adapted and selected what called to me, what I wanted and needed. I continue to select and adjust every day as my awareness of the unseen world expands.

Broaden your horizon by broadening your awareness

First, you have to believe there is an unseen world and then you have to believe you can get there.

Affirmative prayer was one of the first tools I used to have a conscious effect on life.  Along with that was added a deep awareness of the power of my own words and thoughts.

I retrained myself to speak and think in positive phrases.  It transformed my life.

The launching pad for work in the unseen word that I currently use is shamanic journeying. This is a form of meditation – visualizing, intuitive, receptive meditation.  In my imagination, I create a Sacred Garden where everything is a metaphor that only I am to interpret.

Each element in the garden represents an aspect of me. I journey with a specific intention and interpret whatever metaphors shows up – a helping spirit, an object, an element – that is meant for only me to interpret.  The unseen world speaks to me through my meditative openness.

The foundation I’m building includes an expanding use of sound healing, and deepening my Qi Gong practice so I can create a strong launch pad on the physical plane for these inner explorations.

What do you want to explore in the Unseen World?

Your mind can’t tell you what you want to explore because, well,  the unseen world is invisible and the mind is simply your body suit mind, stuck in its humanness.  What you can do is be willing to explore.

You may know what you want to learn or you may need to ask your helping spirits to guide you.  I’m currently asking for guidance on how we, in our body suits, can raise our vibration to help lift the vibration of the physical plane planet. You know; a small project.

Listen to your inner guidance

Once I ask a question, the answers begin to appear. Show me. Guide me. How can I?  Please make that metaphor clearer.

Trust what shows up.  Trust that it’s the perfect message for you.  Trust that you’re interpreting it in the most supportive manner. Journal what you discover in order to give yourself more clarity. I also draw a picture of the journey that helps me understand the message and serves as a reminder of what I learned.

I get an idea and go exploring in a journey and that gives me a response that – of course – raises more questions or offers a wider variety of solutions.  So I choose one aspect and keep on going. I can also come back and explore another path.

How do you interpret what you learn in the invisible world?

That’s up to you and what’s calling you.  I explore an idea that calls to me, figure out how to apply it and write my ideas in posts and my newsletter.  Sometimes I compile my ideas in a short book.  Sometimes I don’t have a complete answer, I simply have a new step to take which invites more questions.

Begin by exploring yourself

Begin with a simply meditative journey.  Set an intention, close your eyes, listen to a shamanic drumming track if you like and see what shows up. Journal what you experienced and perhaps draw a picture.

Repeat as often as you like.

What’s your foundation? What’s your spiritual launching pad?

You’re already a launching pad for your inner world exploration.  Know that. Deepen your intuitive foundation and take off.

Deeper Song Affirmation

Each day I expand my ability and my willingness
to explore the unseen world.

Dying and the Invisible World

March 27, 2019 By Cara Lumen

Dying and the Invisible World
An Inner World Exploration

I’m old, but I’m a long way from dying.  The most comforting, inviting concept I’ve found surrounding this process of death is the journeying I do in my imagination when I practice shamanism.

95% of our experience is in the unseen realms

I’ve been in touch with my inner world for years through meditation, intuition, hunches, simply knowing, but shamanism has taught me specific ways to explore the unseen world.  I find it very comforting now and I know I will find it extremely comforting when I die.

For you see, I have many friends in the unseen world, the invisible realms, the parallel universes.  Helping spirits that I work with in my life today, that teach me and guide me and guard me. Today.  Every day.  In my spiritual practice. When I begin an inner shamanic journey I go to my Sacred Garden, and there they are, waiting to guide me and answer whatever question I have chosen.

Those helping spirits and more will be in my Sacred Garden when I die, ready to show me my “next.”

Aging makes it real

When I first moved into the senior center I call home, I thought I had a really good philosophy of death.  Until I watched a steady stream of this population constantly going off to die.  It was then I realized that my philosophy of death needed to be more individualized, more personal, because I was closer to the actual process of dying.

So I began to search.  It was when I began to perform Shamanic Journeys that I found my most reassuring path.

It would be great if there were no pain when I die, but my helping spirits can help with that.

There is no fear for me in dying because I have long been intrigued by the concept that Rumi calls “the nowhere that you came from.”

As I explore the unseen world, I see how vast it is but also how easily I travel within it.  It’s a whole new adventure.

And it will continue to be.

Explore your inner life

Notice your dreams and take time to interpret them.  They are metaphors.  Look beyond their recognizable representation to uncover the meaning they convey.

I now have many helping sprits.  They show up to offer different types of service, to take me on journeys for different purposes.  But they are always there, ready to assist, to be of service, to guide my steps.

Go beyond your body suit

Whether you dream or journey or meditate, do your inner work with the intention of understanding “next”.  I’m drawn to concepts like the Great Nothingness, the All That Is.  The metaphor of the Web of Life is too individualistic for me; it still seems like we are individual threads in the web of life.  I’m more drawn to the idea of being part of the cosmic soup, there’s no separate flavor, it’s only the blended result of the combined seasonings.  I like the idea that my individual seasoning will join in the cosmic soup and blend with the total, the all that is.

Rumi says, ‘You are not a drop in the ocean, you are the ocean in one drop.”  We contain that cosmic soup even as we are the drop of our individual body suits.

Can you speak of dying to others?

I can speak about and explore my own ideas of death for myself, but approaching that conversation with someone who’s facing their own death is not something I’ve done yet. I have a friend who is on oxygen, whose doctors say they have now given her all the “big guns” they have in the form of treatment.  There’s no timetable for death, but the signs seem to suggest that she’s closer than she was.  And yet, I do not have the conversation with her about how she views death. It is probably not my place. I can only seem to do that for myself.  Perhaps it’s because she is not a close-up and personal friend with whom I regularly have philosophical conversations.

There are people I could have the conversation about dying with but not many.  Not everyone is willing to even think about it.  They may be afraid because no one knows what it’s like, or they may not be doing the exploratory inner work that some people do.

We each walk our own path of life – and of death.  I’m exploring my “next” by exploring my inner world, the unseen part of my existence, to make the experience of dying a positive passage.

And I really like the support I’m finding there.

Deeper Song Affirmation

I do the inner work necessary to develop
a comforting concept of dying.
