What are you settling for? What do you really want? If you don’t know, how can you head in the right direction?
Identify the area of your life you want to expand. Is it your health, your work, your relationships, your spiritual expansion, your service in the world? You’ll have specific objectives in each of those areas.
But I bet you’re simply settling for what you have in more areas than you’d care to admit. So the first step is to pick an area and figure out what you really, really, really want.
I’ll use my “work” as an example. I’m 84 and do not have a “job.” However, I’m still in service. I’m still curious. I still have much to offer. So how do I express myself? What form does it take?
I use several measuring sticks – personal satisfaction, the deepening of my own understanding and my impact in the world. I think that would apply to any work situation.
What does personal satisfaction feel like to you?
Is “satisfaction” enough? I love to be excited, I need to be challenged, I want to keep learning and growing and deepening my own spiritual expansion. Make a specific list of the feelings you want that’ll make you feel your work is fulfilling.
What impact do you have in the world?
Personal fulfillment nurtures and motivates all our choices in life. But we each want to feel we contribute, that we count.
What things are you doing that are more impactful, are more meaningful to others than some of the other things you do? Do more of that.
I love to write, so blogs and ebooks are core to me but I recently began to vLog. I’m having a good time making the videos. I feel it’s a good platform for me to share my ideas. What I do not yet know is how impactful they will be. Only time and looking at stats and listening to feedback will guide me. But for now, my measuring stick is how much fun they are to make.
Go exploring to find a new form that may expand your reach and let you have a great time doing it.
What is your measuring stick?
Feeling relevant is high on my list. I want to feel that I add to the world through my thoughts and actions and my work. So the degree of impact is one element on my measuring stick.
Continual personal expansion is another top goal. I’m exploring the 95 percent of the world known only to our invisible self. I want to know what’s “next.” The need to know and understand those invisible realms guides my choices.
Having a vote in the world keeps getting higher on my measuring stick. I am active in group-consciousness efforts to save the planet and her inhabitants. It’s subtle activism, but it’s an important focus for me. I join with other Light Workers all over the planet who are holding a high consciousness for our world.
The idea that we have a responsibility to future generations has made a big impact on how committed I am to the work I choose to do today.
Raise the bar
Whatever you’re doing that’s working, do more. I have expanded my daily spiritual practice to include group consciousness work. I’m exploring my invisible self and bringing back reports on what I find. What bar will you raise that’ll bring you closer to what you really want?
What/how will you change?
Oddly enough, for all my lofty intentions, I have to focus more on the physical plane so that my body continues to support what I want to do. That’s not as much fun as making stuff up but it’s foundational for creating what I feel I need and desire to create.
How do you need to change your foundation?
Balance is important. We can only do so much, so we have to choose. Perhaps you could track the focus of your time for a week to look for imbalances. Then, keeping in mind what you really want, make some adjustments.
Keep expanding
It’s easy to get caught up in financial survival or caring for a family, but it’s important that you continue to expand your own awareness and understanding. Schedule time to nurture and deepen your own self-awareness. The more you understand yourself, the more aligned will be your choices. Increase your spiritual practice. Shape it however it calls to you. Read/listen to the ideas of people who motivate and inspire you to expand our own life.
Take time to understand what you want
Sit quietly and feel your way within. Examine each part of your life. How does it feel? How does it expand and benefit you? Who does it impact? How?
Figure out what you want. Then figure out how you’ll get it.
