Engage The Power of Trust

January 26, 2016 By Cara Lumen

th-5

Trust gives you freedom. When you trust, there’s nothing to worry about, nothing to plan, no decisions to make. So, what do you trust, and how do you trust?

Trust what people say about you

I chose the word “trust” as one of the three words I’ll work with in the coming year. Trust has several levels for me. I chose trust first of all because I need to learn to accept the positive things people say about me. And I have to trust these comments so much that I overcome my not-so-sure moments.

I’ve gone so far as to collect the positive statements all in one place. These comments, whether written or spoken, show me how others see me and how my work affects them. I need to trust that I’m as good as they say I am because, like most people, I sure have moments of self-doubt.

So, what good things do people say about you that you find hard to believe?

Trust yourself to make the right choice

The more self-aware you become, the more aligned will your choices be. A year ago, I learned that I prefer short projects so I avoid choosing long and involved ones. It took me a while to realize I needed to find an online community that was going in the same direction as I was.

When a choice presents itself, look at how you feel in the moment and make your choice. Remember, not making a choice is also a choice.

Trust the best outcome to unfold

Unfolding is my favorite way to trust. I trust life to unfold perfectly. I simply look at what shows up and I shape it in the way that fits the moment.

It’s such a relief not to think I have to manage things. I don’t try to make a decision before I have all the information. I don’t force a decision. I can wait for the best time.

I work to stay in the moment and trust myself to make the most informed decision – just as I trust the Universe to give me the perfect opportunities

Trust yourself

I do trust myself. I trust myself to appreciate that I’m following my deepest calling, going wherever it’s taking me, like a leaf flowing down a river.

I trust my talents. And because I’m aware of the gifts I’ve been given, I keep putting them to good use.

I trust myself to keep looking deep within to understand what I need, why I need it and when I need it.

Trust takes the pressure off

When I trust the right circumstance to show up, and my ability to make the perfect choice, there isn’t much I need to do except notice what shows up. Sure, I might capture a few ideas, and somewhat prioritize them, but I’m also willing for that list to be totally and unexpectedly rearranged.

Trust builds confidence

The more you rely on your intuition and see how well it guides you, the more you trust it.

The more you trust your talent to produce good work – and it does – the more confidence you’ll have.

Float for a day. No plans, no lists, no schedule. Watch what shows up and notice how you feel about it. Mentally try on different scenarios before you make a choice. Notice how successful you are and how aligned your choice was. All because you decided to trust your intuition.

Practice trust

Notice, too, how many times you make the right choice. That builds trust in your ability to choose.

Trust your talent to produce the right work. And notice how often it does.

Notice what happens when people say nice things about you – do you allow those positive words to come in deeply enough to nourish you, or do you have some barrier to accepting kind words?

Test your abilities. Make a choice, and trust that you can repeat the process with another good choice.

Let go, make a decision in the moment, and learn to trust yourself.\

Take the Path to Trust

January 7, 2016 By Cara Lumen

path-7

When you learn to trust certain aspects of life, the relief is enormous. There’s no worry, no anticipation. I’ll tell you about three areas in particular where you can learn to trust more deeply.

Trust is one of the “power words” I chose for this year. I chose it because I often find it hard to believe the kind, complimentary things people say about me.

Do you have that problem? It’s easy to have such a strong disbelief in your own abilities that nothing others say or do, no reflection that shows up, can make its way into your heart. Until you practice letting it in.

Trust in your own ability

We all want to count, we all want to make a difference, and we all want to feel valuable. The trick is to watch for the small ways in which we have impact and collect them until we have a large enough pile to believe in.

I have made a list. I write down all the nice things people say about me: the compliments, the acknowledgements, even the requests for service that make me feel helpful. Periodically, I have to do a “truth check” to see if I can really accept that, for some people, I really am all those great things. Then I look for any bits of negative feedback I start to give myself and replace them with all this positive reflection I have received.

Trust you can handle whatever shows up

Trust is huge for me, because I have an eye disorder called dry macular degeneration, and I have all sorts of worry around how that will impact my ability to do the things I love – like write and podcast – and yes, the freedom to drive my car.

But deep down, I know I can handle whatever shows up. I may not want to, I may hope it doesn’t happen, but I’ll learn braille if I have to. Nowadays, there are audio books and ways to dictate what you want to write. It doesn’t mean it will necessarily be easy, but I have to trust that I can handle whatever shows up. And soo far, I have.

Trust the perfect opportunities to appear

As I’m big on letting my life unfold, I’m getting better at trusting what shows up and I’m learning to simply shape those things as they appear. The great part about unfolding is the adventures you get to go on – things you’d never have thought of for yourself.

The perfect people will show up.

I love philosophical conversations and these aren’t as prevalent as I’d like them to be. But looking back I realize that just when I really, really, want a meaningful conversation, one shows up.

Sometimes you get help you didn’t expect.

Being an “overview” person rather than a “detail” person, I don’t edit or proofread my own work well. This year, a member of the Deeper Song Community offered to proof my work for me as a gift! What a relief! It’s not a skill I have and I keep having to use larger fonts in order to see my work.

When I shared that with another Deeper Song Community member who has been encouraging me around technical things, he said he was an English major and would also help! These two persons saw a need and stepped in. I gratefully accepted.

My biggest lesson is to trust the future. What really matters is now, this moment – what I choose to do, how I do it, what I decide not to do. The rest will simply unfold – organically, naturally, in the perfect time.

Trust life to unfold – perfectly.
