What Shape is Your Footprint?

April 30, 2015 By Cara Lumen

I’m a vegan in cow country. The one thing I have control over is my own footprint. The choices I make surrounding my own lifestyle influence the impact I have on my world – both physically and spiritually. I took a long look at the shape of m owm footprint.

The footprint of my spiritual awareness

The most important aspect of my life is my spiritual awareness. I’m 82. Death is a little higher on the list than it used to be and I choose to examine and expand my spiritual philosophy. What do I believe? How do I want to live this next portion of my life? How can I still make a difference? I pick and choose the concepts that resonate with me – just me. My inner voice guides my footsteps.

The footprint of my legacy

Everyone wants to make a difference. I now know that I’m in a position to harvest a very ripe crop that I have been nurturing over the years. I am sharing what I learn with others. I’m know I’m changing a few lives in the process. What is the legacy of your footprint?

The footprint of the simplicity of my surroundings

I’m no longer a consumer, I’m a guardian. I take care of the things I chose to have around me. I reuse, recycle and conserve. I continue to release possessions so that the things I surround myself with are more evident and nurturing. I continue to let go of things and live more simply. How simple is your footprint?

I let go of beliefs that no longer serve me

I have changed. The world has changed. I want my footprint to reflect what is true for me now, in this moment, decided by my own observations and choices. That means I have to keep questioning and changing every day. What beliefs no longer serve you? What new awareness now shapes your life?

My well-being

The better care I take of myself, the more capable I am of standing alone. It is my responsibility to eat healthy foods, exercise my body and think compassionate thoughts. I’m the only one that can do that for me. I’m the only one who cares enough about me to do that. My well-being is totally up to me. My life. My footprint.

Let others walk their own path

Of course, it would be great if others were more conscious about our planet and our society, but that’s their path. Mine is to shape my own footprint in a way that aligns with my value and beliefs, to walk lightly on the face of the planet, to be compassionate toward every living being, to be mindful of the natural unfolding of nature and to weave those natural cycles into my own iife.

What shape is your footprint? How deep is it? Where is it taking you?

What will you change?
