What Are the Winds of Change Whispering to You?
 An Inner-world Exploration

When you are still, when you quiet your mind and your heart and your breath, the Winds of Change will whisper to you. They will offer suggestions, bring you guidance, show you new opportunities. You have only to listen.

The whisper may be an idea

Believe In The Power Of Your Own Ripple

June 5, 2019 By Cara Lumen

Believe In The Power Of Your Own Ripple
An Inner-World Exploration

As a rather old woman, I have made a lot of waves.  Now I’m making ripples, but they still count.  They’re still effective.  I just have to believe in the power of my own ripple.

As do you.

What ripple are you sending out?

Everything you do sends out a ripple. So it’s a good idea to be both aware and selective of our thoughts and actions.  I write a lot of stuff.  Not all of it goes out.  I give myself time to get some distance on each draft of my articles.  That’s when some ideas, even if fully developed, never get shared.  I look at them as part of the overall energy I’ve created and some of them are not a good addition to the ripple I want to send out.

When I idea calls to you – answer

When I got the idea for the 7-7 Vibrational Healing Drumming Day I wanted to share that and I hoped it would be passed along. So I posted it in the four online classes I was in and reached out and added friends from those groups to my Facebook page.  I wanted that idea to make a splash, not just a ripple.  But however it turns out, a steady and far-reaching ripple will be good too.

Everything you do sends out a wave

A moment of grouchiness – sends out a ripple.  A moment of carelessness – sends out a ripple  A moment of kindness – sends out a ripple. Laugher sends out a series of ripples.

What kind of ripples are you sending out and how can you raise the number of positive ripples you’re launching?

Be aware of the splash you make

When you begin to think of everything you do as sending out a ripple, having an effect on others, it can be a sobering thought.  Is this the kind of energy I want to send out into the world?  Be aware of your own vibration.

How can you change your response so that it will impact the ripple coming at you?  Do you absorb the ripple?  Do you reject the ripple?  Can you change the energy of the ripple?

All change happens within you.  It begins with being aware that everything you do creates a ripple that affects someone somewhere in the world.

Create your ripples with concessions awareness

I put a blessing on every post I send out.  It’s a conscious blessing that’ll reach those it’s meant to reach, touch their hearts and change them.  That’s a lot for one ripple to accomplish.

Perhaps, before beginning a task, identify the kind of ripple you want it to send out.  Then see how you can make it kinder, more supportive, more impactful.

Monitor your thoughts so the negative responses and reactions never get sent out as a ripple.  Dissolve them. Melt them.  Wash the negative away so that the ripple you offer is supportive and full of love.

You’ve seen the destruction that high waves can make.  They reshape and flatten and corrode.  We’re just talking ripples here, gentle pebbles dropped in a still pool that sends out a gentle wave that eventually reaches the outermost edges.  The outmost edges. Your ripple can go on for a long, long time.

Your ripple affects the ripple of others

Just about the time I being to feel ineffective, I remember that my ripple will change someone who will then, in turn, change someone else.  One ripple goes on, and on and on.

That makes me want to be even more careful of what ripples I send out.  I am affecting the lives of people I don’t even know and they will be changed by my ripple.  I want to make certain the ripples I send out are supportive and loving and positive and meaningful.

We have to trust our ripple.  We have to trust that what we are passionate about is our calling, our gift, our place of illumined service.

Trust your ripple.  Understand what it is, how you affect others and do the best job of rippling you know how to do.

Deeper Song Affirmation

I am aware of the far-reaching effect of my choices and actions.
I create positive ripples.

Deeper Song Process

  • Give thought to the impact you have on the world.  How far-reaching is it? How effective?
  • Are you sending out the ripples you want that are gently effective or are you creating your own tsunami?  Give some thought to how you would like to adjust that.
  • Choose an action you can take that’ll allow you to see its ripple effect.  Send it out and notice what happens.
  • Create a ripple that you simply must make and that you know you will not see where it goes and who it will affect. Check the energy behind your ripple, see that it is positive and well-intentioned. Then send it out. You may or may not know who and how it affects others.
  • Monitor your ripples. Send them with thoughtful awareness.

Repurpose Your Thoughts to Change the Outcome

September 28, 2017 By Cara Lumen

rainbow clods

If your life isn’t working out the way you want it to, change your thoughts and daydreams.  It’s all on you.  Your thoughts create your life experience.  You have the power to change that. You have the power to design the life you want!

Look at what’s not working

Sometimes there are very subtle things that keep us from achieving happiness.  It may be some self-worth negativity you’re feeding yourself. It could be that you have set your expectations too high, or too low. It may be that your dreams seem not to be aligned with your reality. Big or little, become aware of what’s not working.

Change your expectation

Take a close look at what you expect can happen.  I sometimes look at people with a broad business platform and mostly see the repetition it takes to acquire that.  I would be bored singing the same song over and over. Or giving the same talk, or teaching the same classes. I don’t even want to write about the same topics over and over. Exploring is at the core of my happiness. So the bottom line is that I don’t want to have a broad platform if what I have to do requires a lot of repetition.

But what if I change my expectation of what it takes to have a broad platform? What if I drop all the “ways I know to get your business known” and just keep putting out my natural enthusiasm and the discoveries I continue to make?  I would be happiest doing that.

Change what you believe is possible

See how I have damaged my expectation?  I hold a belief I need to release. That belief says I have to repeat the same material over and over in order to become more known.  And everything in me is saying, “Keep exploring.  Keep exploring!”

What if it’s possible to simply radiate my ideas and discoveries in the forms that are the most enjoyable to me and believe that more and more and more people will find my work and be moved by it?

My measurement stick is flawed.  It’s not about numbers.  It’s about the results that are created. I have a very high open rate among my readers so I know that lives are being changed by the shift that happens from some of the concepts I explore.  I also know that my work (as does yours) has a ripple effect.

One idea received and absorbed and acted upon can move mountains.

What is your more expansive thought?

In my heart, I know that I touch lives.  I get to release any thought of measurement by numbers.  I now think in terms of the depth of the change that’s made in the people who are drawn to my discoveries and my insights, in my current forms of sharing.  And because in my mind I know that those who are drawn to my work are major players in their own sphere of influence, I know that the ripple effect of my explorations goes places I cannot even begin to imagine.

What do you think you are doing?

How can you change what you think your impact is in order to allow it to be resilient, heart-touching, and far-reaching

One heart at a time.  One life at a time.  One share at a time. Keep shining your light – and trust.

How to Nourish Your Inner Fire

April 6, 2017 By Cara Lumen

flame

Set your life on fire.
Seek those who fan your flames
– Rumi

A fire needs air. A fire needs fuel. Our inner fire burns at our core and the more we care for it, the brighter it will burn.

How do we nourish our inner fire?

Nourishing your inner fire is very personal. If you have a lot of outer stimulation in your life, you may nourish your inner fire by seeking silence. If you are alone and still, you may share that stillness with nature and find ways to deepen your understanding and connection. Whatever you need and however you need to do it, create time each day to connect with and replenish your inner self.

Connect to source

We are all one energy. The great stillness, the Originating Mystery, the All-That-Is, that’s who we are. Call it whatever you will, but that one energy is everything — you, me our world. It’s our core, it’s our soul.

We can connect with the originating spirit in many ways. You may find it in meditation. You may find it in an experience where everything comes together perfectly. It may be when you have a thought that releases something deep inside you and makes you cry. It may be when you hold a loved one in your arms. Or they hold you in theirs. The energy of wholeness is everywhere, in everyone and everything.

Sometimes we need silence to allow ourselves to go deeper within. That silence can take the form of meditation or mind mapping or singing or drumming or watching a sunset. You just need to be conscious of the moment and be still and listen. That’s one way to connect with your inner soul.

Connect to your wisdom

Your inner voice is your guide, your counselor, your interpreter of less obvious things. I connect with my inner wisdom by writing articles like this — my mind is out of the loop, my inner wisdom talks as fast as I can type. I am here, but I’m not accessing from my mind. I’m totally connected to my inner wisdom. And sometimes I marvel at what shows up.

You may connect to your inner wisdom through hunches, sudden ideas, phrases that show up unexpectedly. Learn to recognize your inner voice and then stay still and listen. Observe. And consider.

Connect to your authenticity

When you are true to yourself, when you honor your gifts, when you follow your passion, you connect to the truth of who you are. You know your purpose and your most impactful place of service.

When I connect with my authenticity there’s a deep sense of knowing that I’m in balance, of knowing where I’m supposed to be. I often use self-questioning to help my next choices materialize.

Journaling, mind-mapping, simply observing what shows up all lead to choices that will keep you authentically aligned with where you’re called to serve.

Take time to know yourself

However you access your inner voice, whatever form the ideas appear in, know your own values and keep aligning yourself with your passion, your calling, your gifts.

What method will you use to nourish your inner fire?

How Choosing the Right Word will Clarify your Choices

April 4, 2017 By Cara Lumen

choice sign

In my advanced Shamanism course we were asked to identify for ourselves three objects to use that meant protection, self-confidence and good luck. I readily found objects to represent the first two but I couldn’t seem to identify the good luck or good fortune piece. Suddenly I realized why. I was calling it by the wrong name.

Where does luck come from?

I don’t believe in good luck, I believe I create my own reality so all “luck” comes from the choices I make within. When I looked up good “fortune” I found “change, destiny”. That felt better. Since I’m deeply aware of the role of constant change and the power of our own choices when faced with the opportunities that are presented to us, I modified good luck to “wise choice.” To me that means an ever-deepening self-awareness while listening and seeing the abundant signs and signals that are offered. So I began looking for clear vision and wise choice.

One I realized that I simply needed to call it by what I perceived its purpose to be, I found it — right in front of me.

Are you calling what you are looking for by the right name?

I find it helpful to look up the definition of the word I’m seeking to embrace so that I may approach it from different angles.

When you think of success what do you imagine? “Success” means “favorable outcome and triumph”. That covers a broad range. I might feel a favorable outcome is to simply finish a project, never mind how great it turns out to be. Triumph may mean earning a lot of money. It may mean being acknowledged. Look up the word you are using and expand its meaning by examining the different words that mean the same thing.

What does “success” mean to you? To me it means continually being excited about what I find to learn each day. It means moving ever deeper into my spiritual exploration and expanding my awareness. The definition is simply “favorable outcome”

What does “happiness” mean to you? “Happiness” means “contentment and satisfaction.” That’s a pretty calm, steady state to be in. A warm fire, a good meal, a meaningful conversation. Or it could mean something far more boisterous like climbing to the top of a mountain. How do you define happiness? How do you recognize it?

I personally would go with the concept of “contentment.” The closer I bring myself to filling my days with the exploration and learning that calls to me, the more content I am.

What about “peace?” The word “peace” means “quietness and solitude.” When we talk about world peace we don’t have the right word. “Coexistence” is the word we want — “the state of living in harmony despite different ideology or interests.” That makes it much clearer. Take that deeper: “Different” means “contrasting, varying”. So we’re looking for a way to lovingly co-exist in an inclusive manner that embraces our diversity. We can work on that.

When you look more deeply into the words you use you may find yourself choosing new ones that’ll both deepen and broaden your awareness of what you really mean.

“Spirituality” means “the quality of being connected with the human spirit or soul.” That certainly leaves room for a lot of interpretation and a variety of methods to achieve it. Whatever you need to think or do in order to feel that connection with the Originating Mystery is your own adventure — one that only you can take in your own way. Just as others must seek it in their own manner.

The next time you try to define something in your life or find yourself searching for something you can’t seem to find, look up the word and find the alternative descriptions and see if that will put you on the right track.
