Your Home Within

Your Home Within

An Inner World Exploration

The more you go exploring in the Unseen World, the trickier it is to find words to describe it.  All-That-Is, the Emptiness That Holds Everything.  Kahlil Gibran says,  “Live in the Nowhere that you came from even though you have an address here.”

So what is nowhere like?  How do I relate to the unseen world?  What does it feel like to be part of the Web of Life or the Cosmic Ocean?

These are all metaphors for things that we cannot describe from our body suits.  We sense this energy.  We know there is something a great deal larger than we are in our body suits.  And we also know that we are part of it.  In fact, we are it.

So how do we feel that, embrace that, understand that?

The Shift from Gratitude to Honoring

November 27, 2019 By Cara Lumen

The Shift from Gratitude to Honoring

An Inner-World Exploration

Gratitude and honoring each have a different function and they produce different results.

What is the difference between gratitude and honoring and why do we care?

Being grateful focuses our attention

I need to understand gratitude.  If we’re all one energy, who am I thanking?  Being grateful focuses me, makes me aware of the positive that’s showing up. Gratitude focuses our attention.

What happens when we elevate our gratitude to honoring?

The things I choose to honor seem more vital than the things I’m grateful for.  I’m grateful for my mind and I honor its curiosity and wisdom.  I’m grateful for my body and I honor the myriad of unseen systems that go into making it work.  I’m grateful for my life, that I’m safe and tucked in my old age.  And I honor the path that led me here and I especially honor the unseen forces that are guiding me.

Both honoring and gratitude include action

I want to honor my past.  I want to honor my present.  I want to honor my future. I want to honor the ancestors, the divine feminine, the elements of nature.  Honoring is deeper than gratitude. There’s a reverence to it. A respect proffered.

To honor is to respect.  To honor is to appreciate.  To honor is to care for, perhaps to love.  To honor is what I want to be and to have and to express.

Gratitude is more a body-suit energy

The difference between honoring and gratitude may be as simple as the action we take. I may feel gratitude for something. I may even show my appreciation.  But I honor it by the reverence and mindfulness of the action I take.

For instance, I feel gratitude for the blessings of life. Gratitude to the blessing of my body.  Gratitude to the sun for warmth…

Cultivate the action of honoring

Honor the formation of the present.  How it’s gathering in, drawing in, attracting the energies that evolve into the next step, the next idea, the next action. Honor the coming together of the forces into a new shape.  the shape-shifting of energy into a new form.

I’m grateful for my mind. I honor it by keeping it stimulated and productive.

I’m grateful for my body.  I honor it with the care I give it.

Honor your gifts. Honor your choices. Honor the opportunities you did or didn’t take.

It’s a subtle but distinct difference.

Deeper Song Affirmation

I cultivate the practice of honoring in my life.

Deeper Song Process

  • Choose something tangible that you’re grateful for. Like your body, or your job or a relationship.

  • How do you express your gratitude?

  • How do you honor it?

  • How do you experience the difference and what does this awareness add to your life?

How Cycles Sneak Up On You

How Cycles Sneak Up On You
An Inner-world Exploration

Look at your life.  Are you happy or would you like things to be different?

You can’t make a change unless you know change is needed

The sneaky thing is that life moves in cycles – small increments that you barely notice.  You gradually find yourself in a different position than you thought you were going and you don’t even know exactly how you got there. That’s why it’s important to take regular well-being checks – on all levels – emotional, spiritual and physical.  Well-being – how well is your “being?“

Play Your Body Song

September 18, 2019 By Cara Lumen

Play Your Body Song
An Inner-world Exploration

In Qi Gong, there is a lovely practice called cupping. You cup your hands and “cup” your body in light taps along your meridians.  Up your arms, down your legs, on your torso.  It’s a lovely way to wake your body up from its night’s rest and get your circulation going.

I also use drumming as a vibrational healing practice.  I drum whatever rhythmical patterns come from within me.

It happens to be an interesting pairing – play rhythms on your body with the palms of your hands in order to stimulate the circulation and the meridians.

If you play your Body Song right before you step into the shower you will find that your bare body has different sounds in different places, which is a fun discovery all in itself.  Using your body as the drum, play some rhythms and enjoy the sound and the sensations. Remember to also swing your arms so you can tap on the organs closer to your back.

I call this my Body Song because it offers rhythmic patterns to my ears and gets my body all primed for the day.

Will you play your Body Song today?

Deeper Song Affirmation

I play my Body Song every day.

Deeper Song Process

  • Using your slightly cupped hands, begin to beat a gentle rhythm up and down one arm.  Do the same to the other arm.
  • With this same slightly cupped palm, move over your legs and torso.
  • Swing your arms so you reach your back and give it a tap.
  • Experiment with rhythms and length of time and notice how alert and energetic you become.
  • Repeat as many times each day as you wish.  (Perhaps not right before bed!)

To Gain Strength, Renew the Root

September 4, 2019 By Cara Lumen

To Gain Strength, Renew the Root
An Inner-world Exploration

What exactly is my root and how do I go about strengthening it?

A tree grows from the root.  The root expands and the tree grows taller and wider.  So if I, here in my body suit, want to grow stronger and taller and wider, how, exactly do I strengthen my root?

Your root holds your values

Each choice we make reflects our values.  Am I inclusive?  Am I compassionate? Do I look for the positive around me?  Notice how you’re responding to a new situation and examine your values to see if they need adjusting or if you simply need to stay true to the values you choose.

Your root is your gifts

We’re given certain tools to work with in our lifetime.  Gifts of passion, ability, the calling of our heart.  To grow your root, look past your daily life and use the gifts you’ve been given.

Your root is your passion

There’s a core passion that calls to you.  It may have gotten lost in the shuffle of life.  Perhaps it was something you used to do.  Perhaps it’s something you’ve just begun to do.  Perhaps it’s a passion you’re using now but are ready to take in another direction. In whatever way you follow your passion, you strengthen your root.

Your root is in your spiritual practice

We know how to strengthen and care for our bodies, but do we actively take steps to strengthen and care for our inner life, our spiritual life?  Examine new forms of spiritual expression.  Prune out old roots of spirituality-by-rote and send off new shoots of exploration to find resonate ways to nurture and nourish your spiritual life. Expand your spiritual practice. Get creative.

Your root is your choice

Each moment, we have a choice.  Each moment, we make a choice.  Sometimes they are conscious choices. Sometimes not.  Work to make certain that your choices are “aware” ones, choices that reflect your values, your spiritual path, your passion and your gifts.  The power for growth and the direction you go in is a moment-to-moment conscious choice.  Make wise and thoughtful decisions.

Growth lies in self-awareness

Listen to your passion, explore your gifts, hold every choice up to your values, and move with increasing awareness through the path of life.

Deeper Song Affirmation

I care for and cultivate my roots.

Deeper Song Process

  • Imagine yourself as a tree.  Are you as tall as you want to be?  Are your branches as strong as you would like them to be?
  • What steps will you take to strengthen the roots that support you?
  • Do that.
