It requires a lot of patience to let things unfold. You don’t need to make any plans since you’re going to respond to things as they show up. You can let go of your “To-Do’ list because things will get done in the perfect time. You only vision about how you want to feel, not what you are going to do. You simply wait. When something happens, you respond.
Calculated waiting
Three times now, I’ve thrown “Calculated Waiting” when I have asked the I Ching for my next steps. Today I made the connection with allowing things to unfold and holding yourself in suspension. Simply wait. Expect nothing. Notice everything.
When a solid is suspended in water, it is everywhere within the water.
When a bird is suspended in midair, it can see everything.
When work is suspended, it is laid aside.
When a belief is suspended, one has to consider new possibilities.
Feeling suspended is actually a good thing.
Feeling suspended expands my awareness
If I am to feel myself everywhere, I must be still and notice it.
If I am to see everything, I must look about and notice even the subtlest sign.
If I am to cease work, I will move into contemplative silence and listen to my inner musings
If I am to consider new possibilities, I must observe everything with innocent eyes.
Calculated waiting is not about doing nothing.
My next steps are not steps at all, they are linked moments of awareness in which I appreciate, observe, respond to and learn.
That sure makes “Calculated Waiting:” look busy.
