Living Our Deeper Song
We have a natural tendency to gather in tribes. We join with people who are like-minded and we care for each other and protect each other.
“Tribes are based on race, religion, territory, and any mutual belief. They may share a common language, culture, or history or territory. They also have similar rules of living or a specific purpose.” – Google
We seek out like-minded people who have common interests, beliefs, habits or goals. A tribe is a source of protection, reassurance and power.
Let’s talk about reassurance. No one likes to think they are wrong. What we believe comes from who we talk to, who we hang out with, the information sources we chose and our own experiences.
Sometimes we fight those who have a different viewpoint from ours. Sometime we conquer other tribes to try to make them believe what we do. Tribalisms is the cause of both distraction and advancement.
The tribal mindset is about control – control the land around you, control the ideas and beliefs of those around you.
We see tribalism between states and countries. In each instance people come from a position of believing they are right.
What if we go exploring? What if we experience other cultures, other ways of seeing and being? That would expand not only our experience but our acceptance of multiple ways of living and being and doing.
We may have to go exploring to find those experiences. Or they may simply drop into our lives. The point is to go exploring.
I’m in the middle of the United Stare in long-term care and for some reason there are a lot of people from Africa working on the staff here. How they got to the middle of the country I have no idea. What I do know is that every country in Africa has a different language even though there is a common language and I’m sure when I have deeper conversations with people from there, I will find out interesting things about their culture. It is an opportunity to learn and experience new ways of being.
Finding ways to meet people from different cultures is an opportunity to learn and grow and expand your thinking. Every culture, every person, has a unique offering when we pause to accept it. Be on the lookout for your own tribal tendencies and learn to be more expansive and inclusive.
Deeper Song Affirmation
I open my heart and become more inclusive.
Deeper Song Process
- Notice how narrow your world is.
- Identify another culture you would like to explore.
- Take steps to deepen your experience of that tribe, that culture or that belief and see what new doors open for you.

We Can Create A Different Dimension of Reality
The personal and collective work we are doing is making a difference and we must continue to be creative and innovative. There is a dense side of the collective that we are to help heal.
We must step into a different dimension of reality. How do we do that? Where do we begin?
We see what we focus on. Change is within each of us.
I’m not sure how to do that but I will begin with my own beliefs in what is possible and get creative in my thinking. But most of all I need to focus on the positive.
So, I expand my vision of what is possible and join my energy with Sound Healing Day (February 14). I build a segment of my spiritual practice to join my heart with other light bearers to raise our own vibration and bathe the planet with our vision of higher consciousness embracing the world and bring change into being.
What is your vision of oneness? Can you picture a peaceful co-existence? Those of us who can must walk into a new way of life together. We will be an example that will motivate and inspire others to make change.
What connections do you need to let go of? What new connections do we need to create? We can create a different dimension of reality by changing our focus. Where will you look and what will you look for?
Spend Time In Your Still Point
“Still point” – A state where time feels like it can stop and we become present to just where we are and what we are doing. We just feel the body as the body and the breath as the breath.
“More than just a mental concept, the Still Point is a felt experience of recognizing our own self-aware being. When the Still Point becomes obscured by giving exclusive focus to the noise of the outside world, we lose our feelings of peace and happiness” – Google
So how do we find and stay in our still point?
The still point is a state of deep centeredness. Your body seems to disappear and you simply are. You have probably experienced that in meditation – it’s a bit like floating in nothingness.
Sit comfortably and quiet your mind. Follow your breath and let it slow as you bring your attention to your center. Allow yourself to disappear in the light you are. How do you spend time in your still point?
How Do You Find New Friends?
My friend Martha and I were partnered in an online shamanic class eight years ago and we have been talking almost weekly ever since. Do not feel limited by distance.
I have another friend, Thuy, I met in another online class. She now lives in France. We talk on Zoom. It was through her that I made another friend in France. Another friend found me because of my book excerpts that are posted on some websites of the Center for Spiritual living. She reached out.
Of the six people I speak with regularly, I only know my friend Christina in person from when I lived in California.
I am making friends among the staff here.
How do you begin to expand your Circle of Friends? One way is to reach out through emails and ultimately get on Zoom. I have several people from my past I would like to reach in order to see how they are doing.
When you take a class, they sometimes offer a Facebook page for the group. Those are like-minded people. Reach out to people you want to know.
Once a long time ago I wrote the author of a piece I read in a magazine and he emailed me back with anther insight into what he had written. It is the form I use for my poems today.
How do you find new friends? Reach out and expand your world.
What Do You Want To Learn Next?
I love to explore. I particularly love new ideas. I’m nearing a crossroads of what to learn next and I do not have even an inkling of what it will be. But I will recognize it when it shows up.
Do you allow the universe to show you the way? For me, the Universal nudge is often sudden and complete. I instantly know that is what I want to explore next.
I have left one book incomplete and will probably not finish it (which I never do) because the book I am reading now is more advanced. I know where the second book leads me but I am not sure that is where I want to go next. So I wait and observe and explore unit I know what I want to learn next.
Expand Your Perspective
Remember the story of the blind men and the elephant? Each person’s description of what an elephant was dependent on where he was touching its body – the trunk, the leg, the body, the tusks – each person had a different description of an elephant based on his immediate experience.
It takes a bit of effort and exploration to see the overview – to see the larger perspective, the broader view. But when we do, new avenues open, new pathways appear.
How do you do that? How do you help yourself view a situation from another perspective?
You put what you know and think to one side and change your perspective. What does the situation look like from over there, or up here or under there? It’s not even as limiting as putting yourself in the other person’s shoes, you have to move to a new perspective, a new overview that reveals new paths.
How do you expand your perspective? And what changes does it bring?
It Was Simple And Surprisingly Effective
It was a jewelry making event held for the residents. I went not knowing what we would make or if I could see well enough to do it. It was about stringing beads and I immediately picked out rainbow-colored beads for a bracelet. But then I could not see well enough to string them. But staff was there and one of them strung them for me and I am enjoying my rainbow bracelet.
Take your wins where you find them.
The Queries You Ask Yourself
How do you evaluate and judge how you are doing? How you frame the question is key.
If you ask yourself “Why am I not successful?”, your answers will only identify and emphasize failure.
If you ask yourself “How can I succeed here?”, you’ll get answers that open new doors and suggest new options.
Be aware of how you frame the queries you ask yourself.
How Are You Investing In Your Personal Growth?
I unconsciously invest in my personal growth because I get so excited about learning new things and exploring new concepts. I don’t set out to do it, it just happens organically. However, we do have a responsibility for self-growth. We do have a responsibility to explore new paths and make new choices and learn new ways of being.
We should be constantly learning. We should be constantly exploring new possibilities. Growth is about understanding yourself and where your choices will lead you.
Listen to the inner nudges. Go exploring online through videos and speakers and classes and new techniques that open up more expansive ways to improve your life and expand the possibilities.
I consciously work to stay open to new experiences. I want and need to go exploring. I want and need to make new friends. I trust my intuition. I trust the paths that open. How are you investing in your personal growth?
Go With The Flow
We get so caught up in our “to do” list that we do not take time to honor the natural ebb and flow of life. We do not take time to let circumstances open new doors for us and show us new paths that we have not found time to explore.
Leave space in your life for the unexpected. Choose a day and just coast though it. Have no agenda. Just respond in the moment. Go with the flow and see where it takes you.
We Have Only Now
“For yesterday is only a dream,
and tomorrow is but a vision.”
Sanskrit poem by Kalidasa, an Indian playwright and poet e 4th and 5th Century AD.
That leaves only now – this moment, this choice, this decision, these words.
You can’t go back. You can’t leap forward. You have what you choose to do in the moment – what you desire, what you think, what you decide to do.
Be away of your thoughts. Be aware of your options. Be aware of your choices. Be aware of the results you are getting.
Be flexible. Be nimble. Be creative. You only have now.
There is immense strength in silence. There is clarity. There is inner peace. There is contentment. We must get comfortable with introspection. How do you cultivate inner silence?
First you notice it. Then you immerse yourself in silence and let it heal and balance you.
Sometimes I simply turn and look out the window and be with nature. I savor the sun on my face. Whatever I do, the purpose is to immerse myself in silence, The peace of silence. The clarity of silence. The serenity of silence.
How do you make time to savor silence?
The Wood Dragon
This is the year of the Wood Dragon. In the Chinese culture, the Wood Dragon signifies courage, creativity and confidence.
Is there an area of your life in which you need courage? It may be a choice you need to make, a situation you need to end, a new path you need to explore.
How creative can you be in identifying, exploring and making the changes that expand your contribution in the world?
The Year Of The Dragon promotes determination and resilience. This year will be good to build a solid foundation for something new with long-term potential. Let the Year of the Dragon give you the confidence you need to create the changes you need and want.
Think On This
The way to use life is to do nothing through acting.
The way to use life is to do everything through being.

Write Your Own Memorial Service
My ex-brother-in-law asked if I had anything I wanted in my sister’s memorial service. She is in hospice. I did and then I turned and began to design my own memorial service. I’m planning on being around for a lot more years and will probably add to and adjust it but I want my friends to have a meaningful experience.
I will have my friends there on Zoom. I have music I love. I have two poems. And I will write my own eulogy, my view of my life and its meaning.
Creating your own memorial service is a thoughtful process.

A New Door Opens
It is not time yet but a new adventure awaits me.
It is not time yet but a new adventure awaits me. There is a wonderful “next” that is revealed in death.
