The Path We are Taking
Living Your Deeper Song
The Creative in me honors the Creative in you!
Imagine an unexplored landscape before you. It has mountains. It has plains. It has valleys. We are faced with an unfolding new era. There are no main roads yet. There are many paths of exploration. Many possibilities to consider.
Here’s how our new landscape will unfold. People will be drawn to a particular path and as more and more walk on it, it becomes a road. And that road will lead to a particular destination that many people seek.
We will evolve our unfolding new era by journeying with like-minded seekers who are going in a similar direction and together we will widen the path and open the way for others to follow.
There will be many paths and many travelers.
How do we know we are on the path that is right for us? How do we know it is a promising path, that it will lead us to a higher level of existence and collective action?
Begin with your own values and beliefs and make certain they are founded in truth.
Choose the level of existence you desire to live in. I will not live in anger. I will not live in fear. I am only focusing on the positive. I hold my focus on what is supportive and keep walking toward it.
Those of us who are singing our deeper song live all over the planet. We may be in groups both large and small and we may be sitting in our homes alone. But we hold the same vision, the same expectation. Oneness. Cosmic Oneness.
As we journey down various pathways in exploration, we must keep in mind what we are searching for and plan to find that higher level of existence where we can gather together in a collective energy of wholeness and inclusiveness. Not everyone will be drawn to that, but those of us who are are finding each other. We are supporting each other in holding the vision and in finding pathways that lead us into the higher awareness that we are all one.
So as we sit here on the planet watching anger and destructive behavior toward others play out, we must hold High Watch. We must hold the Vision of Oneness – the expectation of inclusion and cooperation. What we look for we see. What we believe is possible we find.
Do not drop down into the muck of division. Keep your focus on the pinnacle, the pinnacle of unity that we hold as our true destination.
Like any landscape, people will settle all over it – some in the valleys, some at the peak of possibilities. Wherever you are headed, raise your sights higher. Look for those who are walking the path toward this higher state of awareness and fall into step beside them. Hold your light high so others may follow. Keep walking on the high road. Together, we are creating our own path toward existing together in a higher collective conciseness.

Are You Afraid of Change?
Deepening Our Interaction with Cosmic Consciousness
If I am right, being afraid of change explains a lot of the negativity that is going on on the planet today. Why do you want to keep something the way it is? Because you are afraid of change. Change might make you ineffective or irrelevant. I’m not sure we are aware of that, but I think fear is one core issue for a lot of what is going on in our world today.
Cara Lumen, spiritual philosopher and founder of the Deeper Song Community helps spiritual explorers find powerful and creative ways to connect with and explore their own cosmic consciousness. She helps transformational leaders who are now stepping forward to understand their role and their potential participation so that we can build the bridges and pathways that guide us all into the New Consciousness.
In this episode we explore
Are You Afraid of Change?
To Sing a Deeper Song Consider:
Create a Sanctuary
A private haven. A sanctuary. A place of refuge. A place to restore and renew and revive. A nurturing place of tranquility. Do you have such a place? Have you assigned one corner of your home as a restorative sanctuary?
I have a chair turned to look out the window that is part of my sanctuary. My native flutes are nearby. It’s a good chair to meditate in. With the window open I can feel the air and hear the sounds and feel closer to nature.
We’re talking about a chair here. A chair I have designated as my sanctuary. I go there with the purpose of being still. I’m contemplating. Restoring. And simply being. Where is your restorative space in your home and are you going there often enough?
Keep Listening, You Are Being Shown the Way
I journeyed to gain clarity for my next steps. I saw myself moving steadily upward on a gently tilted path. I received affirmations about the work I am currently doing, but the main message was to “keep listening, you are being shown the way.”
Listening is the key to making the right next choice. Listen to your heart. Listen to your passion. Experiment with the opportunities that show up – try them on for size, modify them, keep them or discard them. Just keep listening. You are being shown the path. You just have to notice it.
Introspection and Intuition
Our inner world offers us powerful guidance. We simply have to listen. The first step is introspection – those times of focused thought in which you consider your options, examine your choices and explore the possibilities. Then comes intuition. Knowing what your choice is to be. Not what it needs to be or what it could be but what it is to be.
Sometimes my answers are several months in coming. One day I simply know there is a change to be made. I feel a gradual letting go of what I am currently doing but have no clue what is to take its place. Because it’s not time. First I have to make room for the new to come in. So I let go of my plans, of my expectations. And I simply wait. I leave room for change.
As I sit in expectation and awareness, I get glimpses of a potential choice. It could be an idea, it could be a path I explore, it could be a completely new direction simply dropped into my lap. This is a time for looking around. Feeling what calls to me. Noticing what new avenues are available. No choice yet, just an observant expectation and thoughtful exploration.
And then one day I know. The door to the next step is open and I step through. Take time for introspection, to go exploring what is possible. Then let your intuition make the final choice. Have a great adventure!
When we journey to our Sacred Garden, everything in it is a metaphor just for us to interpret. So the other day on a journey I got a cat as a spirit guide. I actually live with a cat – Sebastian, but I have not had a cat spirit guide before. We were actually on my Flying Indigo Rug flying in the Void. There were other guides on the rug with me but here was this cat sitting on my left. Being present. At the time, I simply observed it and did not interact with it much. It seemed content to simply be present. A few days later, I started to look up the meaning of the cat as a power animal on line. Until I realized that it is only mine to interpret, that I am the only one that can understand and interpret the meaning of the presence of a particular power animal. I have since journeyed again to talk to cat. But I have not yet received an answer. She simply sits on the left side of the Flying Indigo Rug as we move around the Void. She is present. And she has a purpose. And she will reveal herself to me in good time.
There is a temptation to look up a meaning when you encounter a new spirit guide. But that spirit guide is there just for you. What does it mean to you? Listen to what comes up. You can ask your power animal how you are to work together but you probably know or she/he would not be there. Trust your answers and your intuition.
At this point, I feel the cat power animal is a guide and it is not yet time for me to be guided where she will take me
Here we go adventuring.
Choose Your Own Coordinates
Many paths lead to the same destination. Some of the paths are long and winding and easy to walk on. Other paths take more effort, more energy, more stamina, but they get there faster. You may not want to live at the top of the mountain. You may want to live in the serene rolling low land. Or you may choose to go exploring in the more heavily wooded areas where there are more opportunities and more encounters and more challenges. Maybe you even get a ride to the top of the mountain on a large bird and hang glide off into the valley. There are many paths for us to take to fulfill our destiny.
We each have to choose our own coordinates, our power path, and the timing of our travels.
There are some things I knew about my own journey early on, and there are other things that I only recognize after being on the path a long time.
Our destination is changing if we choose for it to. There are new portals opening for us to explore and learn from and live in. We may be content where we are. We may be burning with passion to go explore a new frontier. Follow your dream. Follow your passion. Follow your insights and instincts.
Learn from those whom you choose to walk beside. See how they are adjusting to the path. Notice the creative ways they use to journey forward. Copy what you will. Create your own innovative ways to move forward. It’s your path. Your journey. And your choice of a destination. Set your own coordinates and journey on.
Find a Creative Solution
I can no longer reach the floor. I have a grabber tool in every room, you know those pinchers on a handle with grabbers that can pick up a dime.
I also have a tongue drum – an 18” rounded metal drum. It sits on a plant stand in my meditation corner. Until one day I backed up my desk chair too vigorously and the tongue drum was suddenly on the floor. A heavy, good-sized piece of metal was on the floor which is not where I wanted it to be. I had a choice. I could wait nearly two weeks until Shelley came back to clean my apartment, or I could figure out how to get the tongue drum off the floor. I got creative.
I seem to have lots of baskets in my home and there was one that was big enough that when I lay it on its side, I could simply use my cane to move the tongue drum into it. I used the handle of my cane to pull and scoot the metal drum into the wicker basket. Then I used my cane to tilt the basket upright so it was taller and I could lift it up. Yea for creative innovation! I immediately rearranged my meditation corner to put the metal drum in a place where it could not be knocked over. I had gotten creative and I had solved the problem.
However, I got to do a similar thing again when I dropped an entire half-gallon of ice cream on the kitchen floor. Once again, grabbers can pick dimes off the floor but not half-gallons of ice cream. There was a definite moment of dismay and panic until I remembered my basket trick. And once again, by using my cane, I was able to scoot that half gallon of ice cream into a basket lying on its side and then right the basket and gain possession of the ice cream. Clever me. Creative me. Innovative me.
When faced with a problem, think outside the box. Work with things that you didn’t expect to work with. Try new ways of doing things that will still get the job done. Find creative solutions to the unexpected challenge that come your way.
Honor Your Resistance
I love to learn and apparently I am full up because every time I start to sign up for a new talk or a new program, I feel great reluctance and resistance. It is definitely a feeling of being full up.
This hesitancy to engage is probably an incubation period. A period of purposeful non-action in which I am to release, repair, make room for, and give time for me to recognize this new next step. Meanwhile, I do nothing, or very little And that has to be OK.
I listen to my inner voice. I honor those instinctual insights that repeatedly show up. I examine them, consider them, and if called to do so, explore a bit deeper to see how fully they resonate.
Take your time choosing a new project, or a next step. Listen to the rhythm of your own evolving awareness. Give your choices time to expand and materialize. Go slowly. Be patient. And know when to say no.
Wrap It In Joy
I took a journey to seek advice for my physical state and the main message was to wrap my physical activity in joy – in particular put on some music and dance!!!! That’s much more fun than doing exercise repetitions. Jazz music channel here I come!
Our Alternate Path
What happens when we come up against a barrier? We find an alternate path. We go around. We go over. We may even back up a bit and start in another direction. A barrier gives us an opportunity to reconsider our options.
We’ve got a problem with the thinking of a lot of people in this world. It is producing fear and negativity. I don’t want that. I don’t believe in that. So how do I create change in order to move around this huge dark energy that is covering the earth?
The opposite of dark is light. I have to embrace this darkness and cover it with light so that it can change. Not by force. But by the recognition that this path of light holds more hope and promise and potential than the path of darkness. Not everyone is going to see that. Some will even fight that. So those of us who know the path of awareness, the path of compassion, the path of inclusion is the way to go, must simply keep walking that path with clarity of purpose and resolution and determination. We turn and help those who are struggling to follow along. But we do not join our energy with those who cannot see or hear the potential of light. All we can do is keep shining a light on the path to higher consciousness. Keep walking. Keep looking higher. Keep shining.
===DEEPEN YOUR SPIRITUAL PRACTICE===
Set Up A Purposeful Day
When you close your eyes at night, bless the day you have just lived. When you open your eyes in the morning, bless the day ahead. And take a moment to set an intention. An intention to be more mindful. An intention to take time for more inner work. An intention to release a blockage you perceive. Have a plan, a one-step plan that will raise the expectation of your day. Choose an inner growth purpose for your day and make it happen.

===OUR EVOLVING FUTURE===
Riding the Roller Coaster
It feels like we are being bombarded with anger, with actions that threaten our very existence. And like a roller coaster, we often feel we are simply along for the ride – the scary heights, the sudden drops, the tilted curves. And all, what we are trying to do here is live our life.
Bear in mind that this is the emergence of the power of the feminine and the masculine is scared because they know it is no longer their turn. They know that the dominant qualities of compassion and inclusion and caring are taking over.
Think about how that is shaping our life. What will it feel like when all choices are made for the highest good of all – not the few dominant males? What if our guiding principles were compassion and inclusion? Do we even know how to live that way? We get to learn.
As a woman, I say, “You go, girl!” As I start to put on my warrior outfit to go to battle, I realize that is not how the feminine is to advance – not with masculine ways. And I get to think long and hard about how a woman does fight, how she does claim authority. How she guides and leads. She does it with an awareness of human nature, of the need to feel valued, the need to be heard and heeded. She listens, she considers and she walks a path that is inclusive while still getting the job done. Even that path will not make everyone happy. It’s not about taking the middle road, it is about taking an inclusive road, the road that made the most room for the most participation, the most effect, and the most powerful outcome. That may take some doing…
Be patient as we figure out how to evolve this next part of our journey. Allow yourself to consider and experiment with and explore new ways of thinking, new ways of doing things. We evolve together and we must be very, very flexible and open to change.
The Highest Good
I live in the US where not enough people are considering the highest good for all. We are mired in selfishness. I’m not sure how we get to move out of it. Except to look closely at our own lives to see where we are making choices that are not for the greater good but are based on our own fears or superstitions or greed or need.
We need to back off to see the greater picture, the over-arching impact of a belief, of choice, in order to see what is the highest good for all is. The greater good. The actions that will positively impact the most people. All people face these kinds of choices – do I choose for me or us? All countries face that. Our world faces that. Me or we.
Next time you start to make a choice or even experience a strong belief, examine it for its over-arching impact and make a choice that will benefit the most people and circumstances. Act for the highest good of all.
Moving Toward the Next Version of You
I continue to explore this idea that we really have two paths to consider – our path of personal expansion and our path of global service. They may or may not be the same.
I notice that people are quitting jobs in droves because they want and expect more for themselves, their life expression, their life experience. So they go searching for it and the hum-drum, non-satisfying jobs go unfilled.
Or, they could find a way to make a boring job meaningful. Not sure how to do that. I’m the moving-on type.
First, ask “What do I want to change? What is working? What is not working? What is really not working?” Get to work on that first.
Change can be scary. Change can mean really, really letting go and moving on, moving forward, moving over change. First, you let go. Let go of what is holding you down. Let go of what no longer makes you happy. And that includes relationships. It may include where you live. It may include the job you’ve had for a lot of years. Let go and move on. What do you want in the “next” you are going to experience? Not what you want it to look like or be like, but what do you want it to feel like?
I would like my body to get strong again but my focus needs to be on what I can do again when it is stronger. Like walks in nature. Focus on what you will be able to do when the change is complete. Hold that focus as you continue to make changes.
I’m not sure it’s so much about planning the next version of you as it is about making room and space and time for this next version of you to evolve and emerge.
“The Master allows things to happen.
She shapes events as they come.
She steps out of the way and
lets the Tao speak for itself.”
-Tao Te Ching, Stephen Mitchell
“The Master lives in the center of the universe,
which turns out to be the center of herself.
When things seem to be in discord return to the center.”

===OUR UNFOLDING ROLE===
Creating Our Next
In my secret garden is an Indego Carillon, a bell tower, and when it plays its music, the sound goes throughout the countryside. Some pause to listen. Some do not. But it represents my voice and my ideas and it spreads throughout the world. It occurred to me that we are each an instrument of vibration that is sending our song out into the world for others to hear and be touched. Their spirits are lifted. Their expectations are raised. All because we sing our song. We are the instruments ringing out the tones that vibrate and create throughout this other world.
Make certain your melody is joyful and encouraging. Make certain your harmonies raise spirits. Make certain your rhythm is one that motivates people and leads them forward. Play your melody. Sing your song. And raise the vibration of the world.
The Double Path of Unfolding
There are two paths that are unfolding right now for each of us. Our personal role in our own life and our role in the unfolding and far-reaching change on our planet. There is probably a third one – the Cosmic Consciousness and our role in its evolution.
I’ve been noticing my personal flow as the topics of my exploration continue to flow into new venues. I feel those coming and have learned to recognize them.
It’s the unfolding role in the greater picture that I am just beginning to recognize and define.
I use words like the “Great Transformation” as we move into the power of the Feminine. But where are we going and what is our role there?
Your role will be newly defined. There will be evolving and unfolding choices that shape our future
The role of the Light Bearers in the larger shift is only now beginning to define itself. And I have a feeling that the task at hand is so huge that we will go through many layers of unfolding revelation. Be alert. Be aware. Be ready. Creatively embrace change.
How We Walk the Path
I was on a lovely journey and I was getting deep messages. When suddenly I got: “You do not need to know the destination, it is the path and the way you walk it that counts for now.” And I abruptly ended the journey. I have been looking for my next. The goals. The path. And that’s not what I should be looking for. I am to notice and be aware of how I am walking my path. Is it with a broad and inclusive awareness? Is it with a deeper understanding? Is it with a willingness to explore and perhaps change directions if called upon? Am I flexible? This is not a time to make concrete plans. It is it a time to look deeply within to understand why you came onto the planet in this particular bodily expression. What deep core calling is guiding you and how are you are to be in service, particularly now, in this time of dramatic change. Be still and listen. And you will hear.
How Meaningful is Your Work?
Does your work make your heart sing? Do you love to go to your place of employment, your place of service, and do your thing? Do you end your day feeling fulfilled and satisfied and rewarded knowing that you have made a difference? You’ve changed a life. That you have used all your skills and gifts and talents for the highest good?
I get those kinds of feelings when I finally release something to the world. It may be my newsletter or it may be a podcast. It may be an email or Zoom exchange. The act of writing those offerings is my growth process. It is my period of exploration and choosing. But it is the moment of release when I send it out into the world that gives me a sense of completion and accomplishment. Once again the image of the bell tower, the carillon that is in my Sacred Garden comes to mind. Pealing my words, my thoughts, my ideas, my version of life out into the world to be heard or not heard. To be listened to or to or ignored. The point is I play my music. I sing my song. And I send it out into the world.
I have control over who or how my end product affects others. Perhaps your work is a piece of a greater whole. Focus on the greater whole. The part you help to create. Your role in the over-arching outcome.
Choose work that is meaningful. Find ways to make your contribution meaningful. Bless your work and fill it with the energy of purpose to go with it as it leaves your hands. Perhaps create a blessing for your work as you complete each aspect or bless tour contributions at the end of your day, sending it out with purpose for the highest good. How meaningful is your work and how can you raise your sights?
===EMBRACING CHANGE – WEEKLY NEWSLETTER ===
I know these newsletters are long but I keep learning exciting concepts I want to share and explore with you. I seem to be entering a particularly exciting stage of discovery right now. I am going to start sending out a newsletter every week so hopefully, they will not be so long for one sitting and I can keep sharing all the exciting things I am learning. I’m not sure that will solve the length problem but it sure will take us on some exciting adventures!
Weaving 0ur New Home
Those of us who are aware are weaving a new home, a new way to exist. Like the spider, we must weave from within ourselves – from the inner work we do, from the visioning we do, from our expanding consciousness of the high level of our vibration.
We must make internal changes before weaving our new home from within our own vision.
Give yourself over to the unimaginable – how do you want to exist? A land of supportive interaction working toward the higher good of all? We create that with visioning. We create that by raising what we believe is possible.
First, we imagine it. Then it takes form. What are you focusing on? What do you believe is possible?
As an older person not in the thick of things, I have to trust others to see the new possibilities and to step into them. But I can hold the intention. I can hold the essence of a very high vibration. I can hold an expectation of what is possible. Visioning counts. Intention counts. Expectation counts. Step upon the high road and become the leader you are and light the way to a higher way of being.
