Focus is good. Focus means you know where you are going. Focus means you will choose to do only those things that lead you to your destination. How about creating a focus for the direction of your life? The quality of the experiences you have? Power Words can do that.
Harness the power of thought
Our thoughts create our experience. The best place to change or improve your life is by changing your words. My birthday is in November and since it is close to the end of the year, it is a natural time for reflection. How am I doing? How do I want to be this time next year? What do I want to accomplish? Each year I choose three words to guide me for this next part of my journey. The objective is to choose three qualities that shape my thoughts and actions for your coming year. Here are my three:
Flexibility: The first area of my life that needs attention is my body, my health, my physical well-being, primarily because I’m 82. I put down words like “fit” and “strong,’ bur “flexibility “felt right. Flexibility can extend not only to my body, but to how I live my life. It encourages me to allow life to unfold and stay mindful as I live it. It will be interesting to see what “flexibility” inspires me to do.
Connection: The more deeply I explore the spiritual areas that fascinate me, the more rarified are people on that particular path. I’m lonely for really deep, philosophical discussions so I wrote down words like “outreach”, “fellow seekers” and “like-minded.” I have the established the Deeper Song Community, a space online for agents of change to gather to support each other in singing a deeper song. The word “connection” also extends to my spiritual exploration. Meditation, mindfulness and serenity are deepening my spiritual connection. We’ll see where “connection” takes me
Impact: The word “contribution’ came to mind first. It felt warm and heart-felt. I almost settled for that. However, I’ve been attracted to the word “impact” and although it feels more masculine, it also feels more powerful. I want to make a noticeable difference in the lives of others. Why not play big and have impact!
Put your power words to work
There are many ways to bring your chosen power words into your life. I have printed them out and they are in several places in my home: my meditation area, my bathroom mirror, near my computer and on the inside of my front door so I am reminded of them as I leave.
Change is constant. There is no escaping it.
Use power words as your rudder. Use them to guide your choices and affect the quality of your life. Select power words that are meaningful to you, here and now, at this point in your life. Set up ways to remind yourself to apply those qualities to your life. Then notice the changes that occur.
Self-awareness is the cornerstone of positive change
The more you know yourself, the more attuned you are to the world around you and the more in alignment are the choices you make. Will you change the direction of your life and add three power words to your daily life for the coming year?
